can't get names from vector in nlm calls
I've been trying to figure out how to get the names of the parameter vector variables when inside the function that nlm calls to return the objective function value: knls <- function( theta, eqns, data, fitmethod="OLS", instr=NULL, S=NULL ) { ## print( names( theta ) ) # returns NULL ## get the values of the parameters for( i in 1:length( theta ) )

nlm, hessian, and derivatives in obj function?
I've been working on a new package and I have a few questions regarding the behaviour of the nlm function. I've been (for better or worse) using the nlm function to fit a linear model without suppling the hessian or gradient attributes in the objective function. I'm curious as to why the nlm requires 31 iterations (for the linear model), and then it doesn't work when I try to add

names of parameters from nonlinear model?
I've been trying to figure out how to build a list of terms from a nonlinear model (terms() returns a error). I need to compute and evaluate the partial derivatives (Jacobian) for each equaiton in a set of equations. For example: > eqn <- q ~ s0 + s1 * p + s2 * f + s3 * a > sv2 <- c(d0=3,d1=4.234,d2=4,s0=-2.123,s1=0.234,s2=2.123,s3=4.234) > names( sv2 ) [1] "d0"

Problem with systemfit 0.7-3 and transformed variables
The 'systemfit' function in systemfit 0.7-3 CRAN package seems to have a problem with formulas that contain transformed (eg. log) variables. If I have my data in a data frame, apparently systemfit doesn't "pass" the information of where the variables should be taken to the transforming function. I'm not entirely sure if this is a bug or just a limitation, I was just

about systemfit
Hello. I am still a newbie in R. Excuse me if I am asking something obvious. My efforts to get an answer through browsing the mailing archives failed. I want to perform an augmented Dickey-Fuller test and to obtain AIC and BIC and to be able to impose some linear restrictions on the ADF regression so as to decide the correct order of autoregression. However I could find no obvious way to impose

Time stamps
I am new to SAMBA and I have what I'm not even sure is an issue. I am aware of the difference in time stamps between *nix and Windows. What I don't understand is this: I used touch to modify the time stamps of a large number of files on the file server from the server side to match the time in the file name. They were video files from my Digital Video Cam and the import program used

Solving quadratic functions
I'm examining the use of the 'lm' function to solve quadratic functions. With S+ 2000, the 'lm' function can be used to solve eqns such as x1 + x2 + x1^2 + x2^2 + x1*x2. But, when trying this same eqn with R, the software does not produce any coefficients for x1^2 or x2^2. Is this a common problem? I'm using ver. 1.3.1 under Win. 2000. Thanks, Peter

Error meaning
Hi r-users,   I have the following code to solve 4 simultaneous eqns with 4 unknowns using newton iteration method.  But I got the error message:   pars <- c(1.15, 40, 50, 0.78) newton.input2 <- function(pars) {  ## parameters to estimate      alp <- pars[1]    b1  <- pars[2]     b2  <- pars[3]    rho <- pars[4]   f1 <- pars[1]*pars[2] f2 <-

Problem with NLSYSTEMFIT()
Hello, I want to solve a nonlinear 3SLS problem with "nlsystemfit()". The equations are of the form y_it = f_i(x,t,theta) The functions f_i(.) have to be formulated as R-functions. When invoking "nlsystemfit()" I get the error Error in deriv.formula(eqns[[i]], names(parmnames)) : Function 'f1' is not in the derivatives table

solve nonlinear equation using BBsolve
Hi r-users, I would like to solve system of nonlinear equation using BBsolve function and below is my code.  I have 4 parameters and I have 4 eqns. mgf_gammasum <- function(p) { t  <- rep(NA, length(p)) mn <- 142.36 vr <- 9335.69 sk <- 0.8139635 kur <- 3.252591 rh  <- 0.896 # cumulants k1 <- p[1]*(p[2]+p[3]) k2 <- p[1]*(2*p[2]*p[3]*p[4] +p[2]^2+p[3]^2) k3 <-

I made some progress on my previous "systemfit" question but still not quite there
Surprisingly, I played around with some test code and below actually creates equations that look correct. tempmat<-matrix(10,nrow=6,ncol=6) restrictmat<-diag(6) colnames(tempmat)<-c("AUD.l1","CHF.l1","CAD.l1","GBP.l1","EUR.l1","JPY.l 1")

nls and if statements
Hi All, I have a situation where I want an 'if' variable to be parameterized. It's entirely possible that the way I'm trying to do this is wrong, especially given the error message I get that indicates I can't do this using an 'if' statement. Essentially, I have data where I think a relationship enters when a variable (here Pwd) is below some value (z). I don't

Experience moving mailboxes from Dovecot 0.99.14 to Dovecot 1.07 => Improvement possible
Hi, This small mail to share my observation about a recent move of mailboxes between two servers and ask about explanation and/or improvement about UIDL in dovecot. SV1 : Dovecot 0.99.14 / Red Hat Fedore Core 4 SV2 : Dovecot 1.07 / CentOS 5.2 Mailboxes in /var/spool/mail on the twoo servers. Test will be done with outlook express with option "leave message on server" checked. Goal is

Replication failing with Win 2012 R2 (maybe)
Hello All, WIndows DC reports (not for the entire directory, just a portion. See outputs below). "The replication operation failed because of a schema mismatch between the servers involved.? I suspect the error is a red herring. Running several Samba DCs at multiple sites. Version 4.11.6-Debian from Louis?s repo (on Ubuntu 18) ?vdcw00? is the Windows 2012 R2 server ?cdcx15? is the Samba

SystemFit
Hi, I have two products which are substitudes. I try to fix a system as below to mydata. Demand1 = A1 -B1*Price1 + C1*Price2 Demand2 = A2 +B2*Price1 - C2*Price2 I would expect C1 & B2 to be symmetric, If they are truly substitude. How can I enforce this symmetry when creating a system of equations via SystemFit ? -- View this message in context:

Chebyshev Inequality — MVUE
Hello, I was interested in trying to write an R script to calculate a UCL for a lognormal distribution using the Chebyshev Inequality — MVUE Approach (based on EPA’s guidance found in http://www.epa.gov/oswer/riskassessment/pdf/ucl.pdf). This looks like it should be straight forward, but I am need to calculate an MVUE for the population mean and an MVUE for the population variance, which requires

[PATCH] builder: proper consider subkeys in index files
The index files already allowed the 'key[subkey]=...' syntax for keys, but considering such string as whole key. Proper split the parsing and the handling of the subkeys, so they can be searched a bit easier. This causes no actual behaviour changes, it is just internal micro-refactoring. --- builder/index-parser-c.c | 8 +++++--- builder/index-scan.l | 9 ++++++++-
