darwin build with latest gcc from apple
we are trying to adapt the configure in order to work with latest
gcc3.3 (from apple) and g77 3.4 (from
http://gravity.psu.edu/~khanna/hpc.html )
At the moment there is no need to define the __DEBUGGING__ but there is
still a problem with the -lcc_dynamic
does any of you know how to check for this library and explain why we
see -lcc_dynamic often passed as an ld flag.

Re: [R-SIG-Mac] cleanest build I can think of
Thanks Byron, I assume you use new Devel Tool updates and nothing from
fink?
Can other people with new dev tools check this (for example Jan?)
It would be nice to update the instuction page (and R-admin in the
future)
some general notes:
1. there is no need to configure with --without-x as X11 can now be
used from inside RAqua
2. please use R-devel and not R-Sig-Mac as we will soon close this

errors intalling splancs and sgeostat
I installed R-1.4.0 and then updated all the packages I have, using
update.packages(). I got an error for splancs and sgeostat. Trying to
install them 'manually' with R CMD INSTALL, I got the following
errors.

R-1.6.0 for Darwin
I don't think it is necessary to put binary versions of the Darwin/X11
version on CRAN any more. The current sources compile without
problems on both Mac OS X 10.1 and 10.2, using either gcc/g77 2.95.2 or
gcc/g77 3.1, or f2c. It seems to me that
if you are using R from the command line, using X11, that you are
sophisticated enough to install the tools below. And, if you want

Small things, mostly.
1. Buildproblem. Well-known and annoying. Build fails if debugging is on
(which is the default) because Debugging.h breaks devQuartz.c
compiles. If debugging is switched off on the command line or in
the environment, then devQuartz.c builds, but aquaconsole.c does
not compile, because it needs Debugging.h. I do not want to edit
Apple system files, and not files in the R

[Fwd: LispStat, R and ViSta [was: Re: Status?]]
Byron
I meant there is no native (Aqua) version of GTK yet (there is
wxWindows and Qt and Tk, so
possibly GTK will follow). The X11 version of RGtk works for me too. I
agree with your
diagnosis of the GUI problem.

Question on trying to build R 2.11.1 on Tru64(aka OSF1) system
Hello,
I am trying to build the R-2.11.1 software for university faculty to use in
research projects on a DEC/Compaq/HP AlphaServer model GS160 16CPU/64GB memory
running Tru64Unix aka OSF1 version 5.1B-5.
Is it known whether it is possible to build the R-2.11.1 software on the
platform I am using?
In my attempts to build the R-2.11.1 software, I first used the native C
and Fortran 77/90/95

survreg (survival) reports erroneous results for left-censored (PR#2293)
Thank you for looking into this so quickly. As you correctly surmise,
I was using the Carbon version of R-1.6.1 on Mac OS 10.2.2 (Jaguar)
when I got the "wrong" answers.
One other observation: The right censoring seems to work fine.
Thanks again,
Tim

R-1.6.1 with gcc-3.3
This is probably only interesting to zero or one or two persons.
gcc-3.3 from Apple's CVS does not handle the -bundle flag properly.
I had to hack configure.ac, which now has
shlib_ldflags="-nostdlib /usr/lib/bundle1.o -Wl,-bundle
-Wl,-bundle_loader,/usr/local/lib/R/bin/R.bin -lgcc" ;;
LIBR_LDFLAGS="-dynamiclib -install_name \$(Rexeclibdir)/libR.dylib

[Fwd: problems installing rjags | tcltk]
Quick followup. Confirmed that TCl/Tk are both installed on the machine
(they are, in both 32- and 64-bit flavours), as are all tcl and
tk-related libs, devel packages, and about everything else I could find.
It occurred to me that perhaps the R I compiled isn't 'tcltk' aware. I
checked the config.log, and there is some hint that this might be the
case. Just before ## File

some symbols). However:

Pretty soon, hopefully, the RAqua version will make the Darwin/X11

R-1.6.0
I have build R-1.6.0 on Jaguar (actually on 10.2.2), using gcc 3.1
from Apple, g77 3.1 from fink, ATLAS from fink. It passes all
checks OK.
I also re-compiled the 233 packages listed below
with the same setup. I have NOT tested all these
packages in any detail. A tar.gz file with the whole /usr/local/lib/R
will be on ftp://gifi.stat.ucla.edu on Tuesday. It will NOT include
anything from fink
