[OT] (slightly) - OpenOffice Calc and text files
Hello all, I had a very strange looking problem that turned out to be due to unexpected (by me at least) format changes to one of my data files. We have a small lab study in which each run is represented by a row in a tab-delimited file; each row identifies a repetition of the experiment and associates it with some subjective measurements and times from our notes that get used to index another

RGnumeric real time refresh?
I have data that comes in every 7 seconds or so and I'd like to display it in a spreadsheet, and possibly take user input from the spreadsheet. I have installed RGnumeric and written an appropriate R function that reads, manipulates and displays the data by writing via RGnumeric to a spreadsheet. However, the results of this are not displayed until the R function returns, so refreshing by

R and Gnumeric?
Hi all, A hopefully quick query. I was reading a posting over at gnomedesktop.org on the latest release of Gnumeric 1.4: http://gnomedesktop.org/node/2090 There is a mention there: Improved accuracy: While Gnumeric 1.2 was already the best available source for accuracy in statistical calculations, Gnumeric 1.4 is even better. We are cooperating with The R Project to

Excel -> *.CSV in Unix (Linux) command line?
A colleague has a dozen of excel sheets and also expects to get updates regularly. He could open these in M$-Excel and export as *.csv manually, "bring back to Unix" and then read into R. Of course there must be options to start programming this in something like visual basic, but we wouldn't to really want to... We also know that probably Gnumeric could do the job (since the xls

Serious bug in OpenOffice.org Calc shipped with CentOS
Hi, Until now I've been a happy user of CentOS. Everything just works(tm), and I don't care if application versions are slightly outdated. Next week I have to give a series of classes for a company that recently made the switch to Linux. On schedule is a one-week course for Writer and Calc. And right now I discover that one crucial function of Calc, "fill series",

OpenOffice.org 1.1.2 vs. 2.0.2
Hi, I recently migrated from Slackware 10.2 to CentOS 4.3, upon advice of fellow Slacker and CentOS user Daniel de Kok. Been working very intensively for the last three weeks with it, and I must say: I really like it. This is the Real Work(tm) Distro I was always looking for! There's a practical reason for this: beginning on June 1st I will be chief sysadmin of our village's town hall.

OpenOffice 3.3.0 crashing on CentOS 5.5
The last few releases of OpenOffice have gotten very unstable on my desktop which is a CentOS 5.5 i386 system. After multiple crashes when doing embedded simple drawings in OpenOffice writer (circles and lines with connections), I started using the versions from Sun then Oracle. I am now using version 3.3: openooffice.org3-3.3.0-9567. I've lived with this but with version 3.x it has gotten

(OT) OpenOffice.org calc chart strangeness.
I am attempting to create a simple line chart graphing three columns from a soffice-calc spreadsheet. I expect it to take the leftmost column as the X-Axis, plotting the others on the Y-Axis, but it always creates an X-Axis of the row number in the columns, and the first column amongst the data. I have tried this on OpenOffice.org 3.2.0, NeoOffice(R) 3.0.2 Patch 2, iWork Pages, and Excel 12.2.4

I've been playing with "$HOME/.openoffice.org2/" but still no luck. This problem did not happen on FC6, so i guess its not OOo bug. --beast

5.4-->5.5 Upgrade broke OO 3.2.0
In order to get an OpenOffice configuration that is closer in compatibility with MS Office 2007, I removed the standard OO in 5.4 via yum and installed the latest (3.2.0) from OpenOffice.org. Ran that config for many months without a problem. However, when I allowed the upgrade to 5.5, OO broke. I finally had to remove all traces of OO 3.2.0, and start over. That worked...until yum tells me that

OpenOffice.org 3.1 installation was corrupted-installed again, nothing in Applications/Office menu
I had a corrupted installation of OpenOffice.org 3.1. When I used "yum remove openoffice.org-core" the response was "package openoffice.org-core available but not installed", but then, when I used "yum install openoffice.org-core there was a long list of Transaction Check Errors. I then removed openoffice.org3.1-redhat-menus-noarch which was in the errors. Here's the

Now all I have to do is figure out how to remove OO.o 2.0.whatever which is being upgraded to 2.3.whatever. I'm using 2.4.1 on my 4.6 boxes (have always been using the latest OO.o on them since installation a

Bridging R to OpenOffice
Dear members of the R Development Team, I am looking for people with a deep understanding of R internals to assist in bridging R to OpenOffice. While R is a state of the art statistical environment, less experienced users often find it difficult to work with R. Therefore, I believe that a bridge between R and a spreadsheet program will make this transition less painful. I sincerely believe

Weird problems with OpenOffice
Hi: 1. Samba PDC and OpenOffice: I've an strange problem with OpenOffice (2.3 and 2.4) and Samba as PDC (Debian version 3.0.24-6etch10): I have a Windows XP Professional (SP3) connected to a Samba PDC. When I click on a document located in my desktop, OO seems to freeze for more than one minute, and then it loads the document. If I try to load more documents, they load normally. But,
