R-1.7.0 beta available
I've set up for daily distribution builds of the current development
version. These are available at
http://cran.us.r-project.org/src/base/
The current one is
R-1.7.0beta_2003-03-26.tar.gz
(and it's pretty useless to wait for them to be mirrored elsewhere...)
Notice that these are made using "make dist" (like the final release
will be) and thus they may have

failure of make check-all
This run was done this AM on my linux box, and older 32 bit Dell optiplex (core 2 duo).
The failure message is at the very end. (It's due to be replaced in a couple of weeks.)

Building V2.3.0 on Tru64 V5.1B
Hi,
I am going to be attempting a build of R for the alphas (our
main need is to collate and present graphically, performance metrics we
gather on our applications).
We have:
CC=cc, CXX=cxx, Fortran V5.51 (f77, f95), GNU make 3.80, Perl 5.8.4
I am hesitant to rebuild GCC on this platform, and would like to know if
others have success in building R with native C, C++ and Fortran. I plan

R 4.0.1-4.0.2 built with Intel Composer 19.0-19.1.1, error in "make check" on CentOS 7.7
Hi there,
I initially asked about this on r-help and was told this might be a better venue. I?m not really convinced from reading the posting guide, but I?ll give it a shot. It was also suggested that the R-Project doesn?t really care about building with ?non-standard? compilers, but I can?t find any evidence of that on the website (indeed, there?s some mention of successful past builds, and the

Font anti-aliasing in wine?
One of the things that DOES make a big difference for me is font-antialiasing (AA). (OK, maybe I am picky). Does anyone have experience/knowledge on that subject?
What surprises me is that for a few fonts (BitStream Vera Sans, for instance), it is active, whereas it is completely absent for most others. Why is that? (BTW, I just found out that I get the best results so far for the new MS font

arith-true mean() fails make check on IRIX
Hello,
I am building R-2.4.1 on an SGI IRIX platform, using gcc 3.3.
gmake check failed, and the arith-true.Rout.fail file indicated:
> is.na(mean(c(1,NA,NA)[-1], trim = .1, na.rm = TRUE))
[1] FALSE
>
I tried the mean() command in R and got:
> mean(c(1,NA,NA)[-1], trim = .1, na.rm = TRUE)
[1] Inf
I think the problem is in the na.rm = TRUE, because I get:
> mean(c(1,NA,NA)[-1])

Support for high DPI 4K screens
I was recently testing R and RStudio on a high dpi 4K monitor under Windows and noticed that the plot window cannot be scaled or zoomed without affecting the relative sizing of all plot elements (line widths, font sizes, legend spacing etc). RStudio seems to try to overcome this by enabling dpi scaling for the plot window on high dpi screens, but this results in really fuzzy text and graphics

fast NA elimination ?
dear R wizards: an operation I execute often is the deletion of all
observations (in a matrix or data set) that have at least one NA. (I
now need this operation for kde2d, because its internal quantile call
complains; could this be considered a buglet?) usually, my data sets
are small enough for speed not to matter, and there I do not care
whether my method is pretty inefficient (ok, I

Pearson corelation and p-value for matrix
Hi,
I was trying to evaluate the pearson correlation and the p-values for an nxm matrix, where each row represents a vector. One way to do it would be to iterate through each row, and find its correlation value( and the p-value) with respect to the other rows. Is there some function by which I can use the matrix as input? Ideally, the output would be an nxn matrix, containing the p-values

ffmpeg and zoneminder install problems
CentOs zoneminder users,
I have been trying to install zoneminder on Centos 5.3
(2.6.18-128.1.16.el5xen) and have hit a brick wall with ffmpeg
which zoneminder has as a dependancy.
There were no rpm's in centos or rpmforge so I have followed the
instructions on the zoneminder website for a CentOs install.
I have posted a note on the zoneminder list, but have not been able to
get any takers

HPUX 10.20 and OpenSSH 3.4.p1
Hello,
over the last few days I've been attempting to compile openssh-3.4p1 on a HP j5000 (hpux 10.20) but have run
into some problems.
I had found the paper from Kevin Steves and have been following his suggested steps. Perl, zlib, prngd,
tcp_wrappers and openssl all compiled more or less as he described. The configure script runs without protest
but make gets hung up in
