R CMD SHLIB uses foo.c instead of foo.cc if both are present (PR#2644)
Full_Name: Faheem Mitha
Version: 1.6.2
OS: Debian GNU/Linux
Submission from: (NULL) (209.42.199.193)
Suppose you are making a shared library using
R CMD SHLIB foo.cc
If there is a file called foo.c in the same directory, then it will be used
instead.
faheem ~/scratch/r-base>R CMD SHLIB foo.cc
gcc-3.0 -I/usr/lib/R/include -D__NO_MATH_INLINES -mieee-fp -fPIC -g -O2
-c foo.c -o foo.o

R CMD SHLIB in Windows XP - No output at all
Hello all,
I'm trying hard to make R CMD SHLIB work on Windows XP (32-bit) - please
note that I don't have the admin rights on the computer.
In terms of setup, I have followed the procedure :
=> installed Rtools 2.14
=> changed my path :
PATH=C:\Trading\R\RTools\bin;C:\Trading\R\RTools\MinGW\bin;C:\Trading\R\R-2.14.1\bin\i386;C:\WINDOWS\system32;%OTHER_PATHS%

passing arguments to R CMD SHLIB
Dear People,
I want to run gcc with optimisation turned on (-O2), and with -Wall (all
warnings) enabled, when using R CMD SHLIB. When I do make, which is
R CMD SHLIB -Wall -O2 cftp.c mcmc.c latticefn.c -lm
in this case, I get
faheem ~/research/cftp>make
R CMD SHLIB -Wall -O2 cftp.c mcmc.c latticefn.c -lm

R CMD SHLIB error bad value (core2) for -mtune= switch
Hi there,
I'm having trouble to compile the R + C/C++ codes for this project from
Yahoo folks on latent factor models:

After downloading the package from the site, I could not successfully *make*
the files.

choosing g/g++ compiler executable in R CMD SHLIB
Dear People,
After considerable effort, I managed to install gcc-3.0 on my Debian
system. However, Debian keeps gcc-2.95 around as the default compiler, and
gcc, g++ point to the 2.95 version. The 3.0 versions need to be explicitly
invoked as gcc-3.0, g++-3.0 etc. How can I get R CMD SHLIB to invoke
gcc-3.0 instead of gcc and g++-3.0 instead of g++? I would like this to be
done by default but

using MAKEFLAGS in compiling C code as a shared library using R CMD SHLIB
Dear R People,
in the R FAQ (in the R Programming section) it says
**********************************************************************
How can I change compilation flags?
===================================
Suppose you have C code file for dynloading into R, but you want to
use `R CMD SHLIB' with compilation flags other than the default ones
(which were determined when R was built).

Rcmd SHLIB error
I am getting this error message when I try to run Rcmd SHLIB myprog.c.
There appears to be a missing / between etc and i386 in the path. I
am on Windows Vista and am using R version 2.12.1 Patched (2010-12-16
r53864) and just downloaded Rtools 2.12 today. Is this a bug in R?
How can I resolve this?

R CMD SHLIB failure (Win7 64-bit OS)
Dear all,
I am struggling to get the 'Rtools' tool chain to successfully build .dlls
using the "R CMD SHLIB" method on my home Win7 64-bit (Ultimate) PC.
Strangely I did get it working on my work PC (also Win7 64-bit but
Enterprise) so I am totally at a loss as to what to do.
When I type, "R CMD SHLIB foo.c" using the Command Prompt I get:
make: *** No rule to make

Multiple -g flags in R CMD SHLIB
Does anybody know why two "-g" flags appear in the call to gcc in R CMD
SHLIB
Example:
gcc -std=gnu99 -I/usr/share/R/include -DNDEBUG -fpic *-g* -O2
-fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat
-Werror=format-security -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 *-g* -c c_file1.c -o
c_object1.o
Surely it need only be listed once?

R CMD SHLIB
Hello r-helpers,
I am new to Rtools and would like to build dll's from fortran subroutines for use within R.
I have had no luck compiling the following simple fortran code;

R CMD INSTALL configure.args and CC customization
One way to deal with this is to install R itself with mpicc. Then all
packages are installed with mpicc and get the required MPI libraries and
includes by default. I have done this with R-2.13.0 on an Opteron
cluster running CentOS-5 a while ago and so far it has worked out great.
I crosspost to r-sig-hpc and welcome others to comment if there are
potential downsides to this solution.

How to specify compiler options when using R CMD SHLIB
Hi
I've built a dll using Fortran code and can call it by either R or
Fortran. Calling by the former gives me the wrong answer and the later
gives the correct answer.

R CMD INSTALL configure.args and CC customization
I am running into the following issue that has been previously
reported on the R-devel mailing list. The short version is that I'm
writing a package for MPI, and I'd like to change CC and SHLIB_LD to
"mpicc". Trying to change them in Makevars.in has no effect, because
the values are clobbered by /etc/R/Makeconf. Will the following
changes to Makeconf.in introduce any problems?

Fwd: makeconf issue on R-devel 2006-03-12 r37524
I sent the message below to r-sig-mac yesterday, but having no reply
I decided to explore a bit myself and found that editing:
/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/2.3/Resources/share/make/
shlib.mk
yzzy: diff shlib.mk shlib.mk~
3c3
< include $(R_HOME)/etc/Makeconf
---
> include $(R_HOME)/etc${R_ARCH}/Makeconf
restored the functionality of R CMD INSTALL.
Is this a known issue?

Problems with R CMD COMPILE within Makefile (PR#885)
Dear R-developpers
This concerns a problem I posted about half a year ago on the R-help list
and to which I got some answer by Duncan Temple Lang (see below), but the
basic problem still continues. Even though I managed a workaround which is
sufficient for me Martin Maechler asked me to send a toy example of the
problem to R-bugs. So that's what I try here.
The following Makefile will not

Makevars, cc files in multiple directories
Hello,
In the src folder of my R package I have
a.cc
b.cc
f/g/x.cc
my Makevars.in has
all: $(SHLIB)
upon installing only, a.o and b.o is build and the final dll is
comprised of a.o and b.o
How can I instruct $(SHLIB) to pick up its source files from all
subdirectories (or maybe a subset, though here it will be all)
in src ?
Much thanks

Error in Rcpp/inline (Windows XP)
Hi, everyone,
I am just trying to use Rcpp in my computer, and I would like to try a
simple example from website, but R keeps reporting me error. I am using
Windows XP, and has installed Rtools and GSI.
Here is the response:
