BLAS/Lapack on OS X
R-devel has the --with-lapack flag for configure. If you build R with --with-blas="-framework vecLib" --with-lapack="--framework vecLib" then the build goes through, using the native optimized BLAS and Lapack in /System/Library/Frameworks/vecLib.framework. Also, it works, in the sense that it does eigenvalue problems correctly. I don't have any timings yet, because I

Compiling R-2.11.0 with ATLAS-tuned BLAS and LAPACK
Hello. I am a Linux neophyte and know almost nothing ?about compiling, so I would appreciate any help and advice y'all would care to offer. I am trying to compile the 64 bit version of R using a tuned ATLAS and LAPACK (ATLAS 3.9.24). I am running Ubunto 10.04 LTS (through wubi, FWIW). The ATLAS and LAPACK files (atlas.so, f77blas.so, lapack.so, and cblas.so) are sitting in the folder

building with atlas version of blas and lapack
I'd like to build R using my optimized blas and lapack libraries. It seems know matter what I do, the configure script uses the blas supplied with the source. My blas and lapack libraries are in /usr/local/atlas/lib. How can I get configure to use these? [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

BLAS benchmarks on R 2.12.0
Hi, I saw on the mailing list and in the NEWS file that some unsafe math transformations were disabled for the reference BLAS implementation that is used in R. We have a set of performance tests for the OpenMx library, and some of the tests have a x3-10 slowdown in R 2.12.0 versus 2.11.1. When I copy the shared library libRblas.0.dylib from the 2.11.1 installation into the 2.12.0 installation,

OS X problem with DSTEIN in IGLS code
1. R-devel on OS X aborts when the code below is run after spitting out the message Loading required package: MASS Parameter 5 to routine DSTEIN was incorrect Mac OS BLAS parameter error in DSTEIN, parameter #0, (unavailable), is 0 2. I compiled R-patched using the included BLAS and Lapack, although Brian says this is impossible on OS X, because they are in FORTRAN (??). This version of R

BLAS / LAPACK version information from within R-session?
Hi, for diagnostic purposes, I would like to get information about the BLAS / LAPACK linked against R from within an R-session. An obvious application could be safety-checks for packages like Matrix and quantreg at load / attach - time. Also you could be more precise on the "framework" in which R is running for comparable benchmark timings on different systems. Perhaps this

Building r-devel on Panther
I did: ./configure --with-blas='-framework vecLib' --with-lapack --with-aqua make sudo make install sudo make install-aqua Everything seems to be OK (some warnings about multiple definitions of some symbols). However: bass$ /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources/bin/R Fatal error: unable to open the base package I got the same message when clicking on R.app in /Applications This

BLAS/LAPACK routine 'DLASCL' gave error code -4 in liblapack3 Version 3.5.0
Dear all Some computations gave a matrix. "LAPACK routine DGESDD gave error code -12" with Debian (PR#2822)
Dear All, Under Debian GNU/Linux La.svd (with method = "dgesdd") sometimes gives the error "Error in La.svd(data, nu = 0, nv = min(nrow, ncol), method = "dgesdd") : LAPACK routine DGESDD gave error code -12" It seems not to depend on the data per se, but on the relationship between numbers of rows and columns. For example, if the number of columns is 100,

Darwin-Aqua R-devel
I've been able to build a very primitive Aqua GUI for Darwin R. This version as minimum event handler support but at least you can drag around the quartz device. You need to download the RAqua.app.sit archive from http://www.economia.unimi.it/R/ You need to unstuff it and put inside your system Applications folder (i.e. /Applications) If you click on the RAqua icon nothing will happen

Lapack or Blas crashing R when using "large" matrices (Ubuntu 11.04)
Hello, This simple SVD calculation (commands are copied immediately below) crashes on my Ubuntu machine (R 2.13.0). However it worked fine with R.12 and Ubuntu 10.04, and it also works fine on my Windows 7 machine with R 2.13, so I suspect there's a problem with (my?) Ubuntu and / or R. I'm using the R distribution that is accessible with Ubuntu's repositories manager, I am not

GotoBLAS2 breaks lapack
Hi, I'm relatively new to R on Ubuntu (moving from Windows), and I'm trying to get GotoBLAS2 working. I installed (from a CRAN mirror) the pre-built binaries of R (which, as far as I know, is compiled as a shared library) on Ubuntu 10.10 using apt-get install r-base r-base-dev I successfully built GotoBLAS2 from source, copied the library to /usr/lib and created s symbolic link from

custom built R will not change BLAS/LAPACK with update-alternatives
Dear All, I am building R from source[1], following what is done in "rules" for building Debian's R. But the R I generate, in contrast to the standard Debian's R, will not change the BLAS and LAPACK libraries it uses when I change them via "update-alternatives". I have no idea what I am doing wrong (but, somehow, I've been quite capable of making the same

MacOSX 10.4.11 update breaks tests/lapack.R (R 2.6.0)? (PR#10454)
Hello, It seems the recent Mac OS X 10.4.11 update installed a new libBLAS.dylib in the Accelerate framework which either contains a bug itself or exposes a bug somewhere in R's lapack code on the PowerPC G4 and G5. My build of R 2.6.0 executed the tests/lapack.R code succesfully when I upgraded when 2.6.0 was released. After the OS update, it now crashes. This happens both with the version I

R-1.7.0 beta available
I've set up for daily distribution builds of the current development version. These are available at http://cran.us.r-project.org/src/base/ The current one is R-1.7.0beta_2003-03-26.tar.gz (and it's pretty useless to wait for them to be mirrored elsewhere...) Notice that these are made using "make dist" (like the final release will be) and thus they may have

compiling R | multi-Opteron | BLAS source
Greetings - A quick perusal of some of the posts to this maillist suggest the level of the questions is probably beyond someone working at my level, but at the risk of looking foolish publicly (something I find I get increasingly comfortable with as I get older), here goes: My research group recently purchased a multi-Opteron system (bunch of 880 chips), running 64-bit RHEL 4 (which we have
