future of subsystem requests
I was testing the Linux port of 2.1.0p2 and noticed that the F-Secure SSH
client for Windows 4.0 couldn't successfully connect using its secure
file-transfer facility.
The server log reported that authentication was successful, then the log
left off with a semi-cryptic "subsystem request for sftp" line. After
that, nothing.
Poking around the source, I found this little routine in

Hi!
Since I started to use Debian kernel 2.6.10 (in unstable), the problem
disappeared. Fedora Core 3 uses 2.6.10 too so I don't know

pam_limits and OpenSSH
Hi,
I have an account server with many users. It uses pam_limits module to
limit memory usage etc. The problem is that sometimes SSH rejects
connection after the password is entered. In syslog it prints something
like "fork: Resource temporary unavailable". After killing some root
processes it works perfectly.
Perhaps the daemon first sets process limits and then switches to

smb_proc_readX_data: offset is larger than SMB_READX_MAX_PAD or negative!
Hi,
I'm using Debian unstable, with kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686-smp 2.6.8-10, and samba
3.0.10-1. I smbmount a Windows 2003 share with MP3s. The DC is Windows 2003 in
mixed mode. When playing many of these MP3s, there is a noticable delay and the
following messages are logged into /var/log/message:

Controlling share ACL through W2K's Computer Management MMC
Hi,
This is samba 3.0.2a-1 on Debian testing. I'm trying to change share
permission with Computer Management snap-in in Windows 2003 Server, but
only access denied is given. The only answer I found is
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2001-December/017809.html
. So I have to use "change share command" and login as local root? I
don't like this. Is this the

Building 3.7-p1 on i686-pc-linux-gnu for execution on i386-pc-linux-gnu
I have a small single-board computer (SBC) I'd like to run OpenSSH on,
but when I build the binaries on my development station and copy them
over, I get "Illegal Instruction" errors when running them (sshd,
ssh-keygen, ssh-add, ssh-agent, ssh-keyscan).
I have successfully built zlib 1.2.1 and tested it with minigzip on the
SBC, so I don't think the problem is with zlib.
I have

Error building Samba 3.2.0 with gcc 2.96
I have tried to build Samba 3.2 with an old compiler gcc 2.96.
It gave only one single error:
groupdb/mapping_tdb.c: In function `add_mapping_entry':
groupdb/mapping_tdb.c:130: incompatible types in return
The offending line says:
return NULL;
in a function of type 'bool'.
Is this a bug, or am I using a far too old compiler?

Patch to get libogg2 to build with gcc 2.96
Hi,
When I built libogg2 for testing the new vorbose utility, gcc 2.96
stumbled over a portion from stream.c that mixes variable declarations
with statements. The patch below fixes this.

Hi,
since some time I'm plagued by internal login failures. With v2.2.10 I got
the some additional error, that I should raise the process_limit for the
imap service, then I got the hint to raise vsz_limit for the lmtp and
imap serverices.
These hints are very helpful and are some sort of unique feature of

back to: kernel: do_IRQ: 2.96 No irq handler for vector (irq -1)
I asked here a week or so ago, and referenced an older bug, but haven't
seen any comments. Googling, I see others asking about the same. Datum:
*every* one I've found is like this: they're all HP DL580's or DL380's, or
such.
This is being used for heavy-duty scientific computing. Does anyone know
if it *will* it seriously affect throughput speed if I turn off
irqbalance?
