directing print.packageInfo to a file
There was a discussion on r-help of getting the output from
print.packageInfo into a file. Spencer and I have added a file=
argument to print.packageInfo for consideration in R. Had this
been available it would have simplified the answer to that
thread. If the file= argument is used then the packageInfo
information is sent to the file specified rather than displayed
using file.show .

I don't see anything in either https://svn.r-project.org/R/trunk/NEWS
or in the Changes file for R-2.1.0 about changes in package.skeleton()
(nor in the help page), but when I run this function, all the .Rd files
produced are of the data format even if all I have in my .GlobalEnv are
functions.
A trivial example is to run the

Java parser for R data file?
Hi everyone,
Has anyone written a parser in Java for either the ASCII or binary format
produced by save()? I need to parse a single large 2D array that is
structured like this:
list(
"32609_1" = c(-9549.39231289146, -9574.07159324482, ... ),
"32610_2" = c(-6369.12526971635, -6403.99620977124, ... ),
"32618_2" = c(-2138.29095689061, -2057.9229403233, ... ),

suppressing stderr output from system() calls
Dear list,
I'm trying to suppress/redirect/squash the output from commands like install.packages, or download.file. The problem is that none of: sink(..., type="message"), sink(..., type="output"), capture.output, suppressMessages are quite doing the trick. Output gets written to the stderr stream, despite any combination of the above suppression commands.

Wishlist: optional svn-revision number tag in package DESCRIPTION file
Hi,
just a little wish :
Could we have one (or maybe more) standardized optional tag(s)
for package DESCRIPTION files to cover svn revision info?
This would be very useful for bug reporting...
I know that any developer is already free to append corresponding lines
to DESCRIPTION files to do something of this sort --- e.g. lines like

silent loading of packages
I would like to turn off all the messages during
library(aPackage) or
require(aPackage)
I tried different commands: invisible, capture.output, sink but none of them is working.
For example, loading VGAM, gives a lot of unnecessary messages:
> library(VGAM)
Attaching package: 'VGAM'
The following object(s) are masked from package:splines :

packaging a package addon
I am trying to package some code that is a tweak to the survival
package. When I asked earlier, the list consensus was that it would be
best to do this as a separate package, dependent on survival.
This is proving a bit tricky.
I have some run-time and compile time concerns.
Run-time, my R code needs R code from survival, and my C code needs C
functions from survival. Will this all be

hangup lag causing the answering of already answered calls
I have a TDM-400P with one FXO module. On an incoming call, I have set
Asterisk to dial my phone (exten => s,1,Dial(IAX2/carey)), which is
basically the only thing in my dialplan.
When the call is answered by the PSTN phone first, or when the ringing
call is hung up, Asterisk keeps ringing for 5+ seconds, which causes
trouble (the answering of already answered calls).

Hi,
Lets say this was a dataframe where I had two columns
a <- c("<0.1", NA, 0.3, 5, "Nil")
b <- c("<0.1", 1, 0.3, 5, "Nil")
And I just want to remove the rows from the dataframe where there were NAs
in the b column, what is the syntax for doing that?
Thanks in advance

permissions bug w/ --backup-dir or --backup option?
Running rsync 2.4.7pre1, using the --backup-dir option, I just realized
today that file ownerships and permissions of backed up files are not
preserved. In other words, if rsync moves an obsolete file to the backup
dir, it's ownership seems to revert to root:root, and permissions change, as
well. We are also using the -a (archive) option, by the way, which should
mean "preserve
