R-0.90.0 untar
I had a couple of problems getting R 0.90.0. In case anyone has similar problems, I though I would mention them. 1/ I can't use "ftp cvs.r-project.org" from either home or work. The ftp service does not seem to be available. Perhaps this is intended. I only discovered it because I thought the file I got through Netscape might be corrupted. (I don't understand why Netscape

kalman filter estimation
Hi, Following convention below: y(t) = Ax(t)+Bu(t)+eps(t) # observation eq x(t) = Cx(t-1)+Du(t)+eta(t) # state eq I modified the following routine (which I copied from: http://www.stat.pitt.edu/stoffer/tsa2/Rcode/Kall.R) to accommodate u(t), an exogenous input to the system. for (i in 2:N){ xp[[i]]=C%*%xf[[i-1]] Pp[[i]]=C%*%Pf[[i-1]]%*%t(C)+Q siginv=A[[i]]%*%Pp[[i]]%*%t(A[[i]])+R

Unexpected behavior in factor level ordering
Hello, Everybody: This may not be a "bug", but for me it is an unexpected outcome. A factor variable's levels do not retain their ordering after the levels function is used. I supply an example in which a factor with values "BC" "AD" (in that order) is unintentionally re-alphabetized by the levels function. To me, this is very bad behavior. Would you agree? #

Installation 2.7.1 [requires Perl >= 5.8.0]
Hi there, I am currently working in a research institute and I have only a reduced account. My aim is to install the New version of R under my own directory to prove the advantages of this version to my IT service to lead them to install it on the full server. So I download the last .tar.gz file I used "gunzip" and "tar -xf" without any problems (hopefully!) But when I

Artifacts in pdf() of image() (w/o comments)
Dear r-helpers, In my previous message there were comments in the code that may have made cutting and pasting awkward. Here it is w/o them. I have two questions: (1) The following produces a pdf with artifacts. How do I prevent them? require(grDevices) imSize <- 200 lambda <- 10 theta <- 15 sigma <- 40 x <- 1:imSize x0 <- x / imSize -.5 freq = imSize/lambda xf = x0 * freq *

llvm-6.0.0rc2: fatal error: clang/Basic/Version.h: No such file or directory
Hi, today I've tried to build llvm-6.0.0rc2 using Cmake on my "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12.3 (x86_64)" with the following commands (gcc-6.4.0 is necessary for CUDA-9.0). wget http://prereleases.llvm.org/6.0.0/rc2/llvm-6.0.0rc2.src.tar.xz wget http://prereleases.llvm.org/6.0.0/rc2/cfe-6.0.0rc2.src.tar.xz wget

efficiently diff two data frames
Dear all, What is the quickest and most efficient way to diff two data frames, so as to obtain a vector of indices (or logical) for rows/columns that differ in the two data frames? For example, > Xe <- head(mtcars) > Xf <- head(mtcars) > Xf[2:4,3:5] <- 55 > all.equal(Xe, Xf) [1] "Component 3: Mean relative difference: 0.6863118" [2] "Component 4: Mean relative

Rdbi and ODBC
I have been using RODBC for a while with no complaints (R 2.0.1 patched under WinXP), then I saw a link (http://grass.itc.it/statsgrass/r_and_dbms.html) showing that Rdbi claims to run a query in 5 seconds that takes RODBC 4.3 minutes. That was hard enough for me to believe that I wanted to try some tests myself, but I cannot get Rdbi to connect to my ODBC database. Here is what works for RODBC

summary[["r.squared"]] gives strange results
I am simulating an ANOVA model and get a strange behavior from the summary function. To be more specific: please run the following code and see for yourself: the summary()[["r.squared"]] values of two identical models are quite different!! ## 3 x 3 ANOVA of two factors x and z on outcome y s.size <- 300 # the sample size p.z <- c(0.25, 0.5, 0.25) # the probabilities of factor z ##

proposed new doco for "Gluster 3.1: Installing GlusterFS on OpenSolaris"
Hi all Reference: http://support.zresearch.com/community/documentation/index.php/Gluster_3.1:_Installing_GlusterFS_on_OpenSolaris I have found this guide to be too brief/terse, and have endeavoured to improve it via more of a recipie/howto approach - and possibly misunderstood the intent of the brief directions in the process. Please advise if there are any errors? Once the procedure is

Newbie: how to calculate group averagege?
Dear R-List, I?m new in R, so I hope my question is not to primitive, but I haven?t found a solution in the R-help. I?ve got a datatframe with 3 factors, called xf (9 levels), yf (9 levels), zf (3 levels) and one variable (rt): > xf yf zf rt > 1 1 1 67 > 1 1 1 56 > 1 1 1 60 [...] > 1 1 2 58 > 1 1 2 61 [...] > 9 1

Building LLVM with LLVM
Hi folks! I'm trying to build LLVM with LLVM on Ubuntu using the commands below. Building it with the GNU stuff (cpp, gcc, g++ and binutils packages) works, but after removing it, moving LLVM to /usr/local and symlinking /usr/bin/ld to ld.lld, I'm getting the following: === snip === -- The C compiler identification is Clang 8.0.1 -- The CXX compiler identification is Clang 8.0.1 -- The

ZFS & small files
First - many, many congrats to team ZFS. Developing/writing a new Unix fs is a very non-trivial exercise with zero tolerance for developer bugs. I just loaded build 27a on a w1100z with a single AMD 150 CPU (2Gb RAM) and a single (for now) SCSI disk drive: FUJITSU MAP3367NP (Revision: 0108) hooked up to the built-in SCSI controller (the only device on the SCSI bus). My initial ZFS test was to

Deep copy in R
I am handling spatial data of huge volumes, so sensitive to the silent duplication of data in script programs. In the following R program, exactly when is the vector data deeply copied? Thanks in advance. 1 v <- 1:10000 2 z <- f(v) --------- function f ---------- 3 f <- function(x) { 4 y = x 5 y[10] = 1 6 xf = date.frame(x=x) 7 xf$x[10] = 1 8

se.fit from predict.lm
hi, i noticed that se.fit from predict.lm is the same whether interval="conf" or interval="pred". it is not clear to me from ?predict.lm whether this is intended or not. i suggest that se.fit should match the type of interval requested, if interval is specified. suggested change in lm.R line 700 if(se.fit || interval != "none") se <- sqrt(ip) to if(se.fit

source package build/installation with subdirectory-lib
hi all - i have a source package i'm writing that i'd like to be able to install with a special library that my R src files rely on. to be more precise, i have a normal R package directory structure (i.e. src/ R/ man/ DESCRIPTION NAMESPACE etc.). i also have another directory here called depPkg, and it has it's own configure file for the canonical './configure && make

Faked samba packages / rootkit?
Does anybody know of these samba packages? http://ftp.cvut.cz/samba/samba-latest.tar.gz AFAICS they are faked and contain some kind of rootkit (you can see this in the history below. the server this history is from is taken offline for security reasons, and nobody is there till 7th Jan I can't give you more details) > 144 w > 145 cat /etc/issue > 146 uname -a > 147
