installing grid package
Hi all, I can't understand why grid package failed to installed on my machine. Can anybody have a look and advice on where I am missing it. My R version is 2.9.2. After untarring: tar xzvf grid_0.7-4.tar.gz, I tried to configure or make but none worked, 'no such files'. I have also tried using : sudo R CMD INSTALL /home/ogbos/Desktop/goo/grid_0.7-4.tar.gz which also resulted in the

raster support in graphics devices
Hi This is for developers of extension packages that provide extra *graphics devices* for R. In the *development* version of R, support has been added to the graphics engine for sending raster images (bitmaps) to a graphics device. This consists mainly of two new device functions: dev_Raster() and dev_Cap(). The R_GE_version constant (in GraphicsEngine.h) has been bumped up to 6 as a

[FORGED] Re: Replaying a recorded plot (mixed base and grid) from pdf() in cairo_pdf() crashes R
Hi This appears to be happening (at least) because cairo_pdf() delays initialising a Cairo surface until BM_NewPage(), rather than initiliasing a Cairo surface in BM_Open(), and replayPlot() triggers some activity (set clip region) on the device BEFORE a new page is started (so the pointer to the Cairo surface is null, so BOOM). Not sure yet whether to blame replayPlot() for not starting

grid stringHeight
Dear all, I'm puzzled by the behavior of stringHeight in the grid package. Consider the following test, library(grid) test <- function(lab="dog", ...){ g1 <- textGrob(lab) g2 <- rectGrob(height=grobHeight(g1), width=grobWidth(g1)) gg <- gTree(children=gList(g1,g2), ...) print(c("height:", convertUnit(stringHeight(lab), "mm",

[FORGED] Re: polypath winding rule with transparency
Hi Just to clarify, I think this IS a problem with grid.path() as well as polypath(). For the example you give, grid.path() diverts to drawing a polygon (because there is no 'id' specified), and the NAs in 'x' generate two separate polygons, which get drawn one on top of the other. The correct analogy to the polypath() example is ... x2 <- matrix(x[!is.na(x)], ncol=2)

grid graphics gpar(fill) argument and jpeg device
Hi everybody, I just notice a strange behaviour of gpar's fill argument when using non-postscript devices: The default of the argument is transparent (according to get.gpar("fill")). So as expected, the following code draws a nice red rectangle in the middle of my X11 or postscript device. pushViewport(viewport(width=0.5, height=0.5)) grid.rect(gp=gpar(fill="red"))

grid.edit() for ggplot2
Dear all, I'm trying to access and modify grobs in a ggplot2 plot. The basic idea for raw Grid objects I understand from Paul Murrell's R graphics book, or this page of examples, http://www.stat.auckland.ac.nz/~paul/grid/copygrob/copygrobs.R However I can't figure out how to apply this to a ggplot (basically I don't know how to write a syntactically correct gPath), p

strange interaction between rasterImage and Grid graphics
Dear all, This may be specific to Mac, I haven't had a chance to test another platform. Consider this, plot(1,1,t="n") rasterImage(matrix(1),1,1,1,1) library(grid) grid.rect(gp=gpar(fill="grey")) The grid.rect covers the full device window as expected. However, when I resize the window ever so slightly (interactive device) the rectGrob is suddenly clipped to the previous

Creating grid graphics with grid.layout
Hi, I recently created a function which uses grid with a viewport constructed with grid.layout() to position four plots on a plot device. My question is what's the best way to programatically traverse each element of the viewport? The grid is 5x5 and the four plots occupy positions (2,2), (4,2), (2,4), and (4,4). Here's the viewport code: pushViewport( viewport(

curiosity question: new graphics vs. old graphics subsystem
I just read paul murrell's new book, R graphics. now, I have always used the traditional graphics system. apparently, the new (trellis?) system is an entirely separate graphics system. after reading the book, I cannot figure out what the intrinsic capability advantage of the old graphics system is that cannot be replicated in the trellis system. if the new system's capabilities are

removing last piece of grid graphical output with grid.remove
Hello - If I create multiple pieces of output in grid, and use grid.remove() to try to remove the output from the graphics device, I cannot seem to remove the final piece of output from the device until I 'refresh' the graphics device by giving it focus. The function grid.remove() does appear to remove the grob from the display list, however. I noticed this when the example on page

table in x-y diagram
Hi, i'm plotting some "bubbles" in a x-y diagram. I like to add a table like: cl80m <- aggregate(cl80,list(Cluster=cl80[,10]),mean) but, put it with: grid.text(as.data.frame(cl80m), x = unit(0.5, "npc"), y = unit(0.5, "npc")) i get it as list and not really to read. Have anybody more experience, add small table's (6-9 rows, 3-8 colums) in a corner of a

Problems with example(Grid) in grid package
The following: library(grid) grid.newpage() example(Grid) has the yaxis label partly cut off and the x axis label does not appear at all. Also ?grid.multipanel in that example brings up documentation for grid-internal but this would not seem to be internal if its part of an example. I am using: > R.version.string # Windows XP [1] "R version 2.2.0, 2005-09-20"

gridBase and new.page() / grid.newpage()
Hello all, I'm trying to write a function using the gridBase package. I'd like to push several base subplots to a larger plot constructed with grid. However, I'm having trouble getting consistent results when running the function when the plotting window (quartz) is closed, when it is left open and the plot function is repeated to the same window, and when the output is saved to a
