Can I be any more trouble today? :)
This almost worked. ./configure worked but when I ran make I got this...a Redhat bug?

Broken Pipe Errors
Hi there everyone!
One of the users complained to me that yesterday, he suddenly couldn't
access the network. He was online the whole day, then suddenly at around
6:45pm he couldn't write. A restart of his workstation rendered him
completely disconnected from the Samba domain.

Installing packages
Hello,
I have upgraded from Mandrake Linux 8.0 to Mandrake 8.1 and try to reinstall
my favourite R... Everything is OK for the base software but I have trouble
to get some packages installed.
Specifically, for some packages, a "collect2" binary seems to be necessary
during the compilation/linking process of the library, and LD complains about
not finding it :

In a box running Mandrake 9 with R 1.6.2 I get problems when trying to

It seems my gcc compiler and fortran do not talk to each other.
Thanks in advance for any help,

kernel conf not applied to modules?
On FreeBSD 4.7
I noticed that when compiling kernel modules, the kernel options are not
available to the modules.
For example, my if_em.ko is not being compiled with the DEVICE_POLLING
configuration
It looks like "-include opt_global.h" is not being applied when compiling
the module.

make check fails with -march=i686 on gcc 2.96 (PR#2296)
The top-level 'make check' fails on Red Hat Linux 7.3 (fully patched
as of Nov. 15, 2002) when CFLAGS includes "-march=i686". In
particular, the following targets fail:
* test-Reg
* test-Examples
* test-Ts
The workaround is not to use "-march=i686". Specific stuff below, and
I'd be happy to provide any files or fragments thereof that'd help.

[PATCH] Fix for crash with certain EFIs
Thank you all.
It looks like -mno-red-zone flag is already in master branch since
commit 7d70885d, but it seems it is applied to all EFI builds.
IIUC, the problem only affects efi64 builds.
So here's the modification of my patch to only apply -mno-red-zone
flag to efi64 target. The patch is against master. I verified that it
builds correctly in master. Please feel free to accept or reject

cluster & mgcv update
Hello,
After reinstalling the whole OS and R as well, I tried to update.packages()
and get the follwing error message:
concerning the mgcv update: atlas2-base is installed and blas as well (on
debian). I haven't found lf77blas, I assume it's a library or something
similar associated with blas.
any suggestion how to solve that, thanks Martin
