package names with `.' cause problems in the Depends field
Some of my package names have `.' in them. An example is "g.data". R CMD check complains about this as follows: * checking for file 'financials/DESCRIPTION' ... OK * checking package directory ... OK * checking DESCRIPTION Package field ... OK * checking DESCRIPTION Version field ... OK * checking DESCRIPTION License field ... OK * checking DESCRIPTION Description field ...

--quiet flag sets echo option to TRUE (PR#1083)
The help for options says: echo: logical. Only used in non-interactive mode, when it controls whether input is echoed. Command-line options `--quiet' and `--slave' set this initially to `FALSE'. I don't think that this is correct for me. Consider the following session: mica|junk> ls test.R mica|junk> cat test.R cat("Why was this command

subsetting with NA's
Hi, I often have large dataframes with many variables and many NA's, from which I would like to subset out some rows. Here is a toy example: > x <- data.frame(a = c("x", "y", "z"), b = c(1, NA, 5)) > x a b 1 x 1 2 y NA 3 z 5 I realize that, if I know the values in x$b that I want to subset, things are easy: > x[x$b %in% c(1),] a b 1 x 1

(PR#1577) is.na<- coerces character vectors to be factors
The inconsistency is that you use $<- to set the column, then [[<- to change it. Had you tried to set the column by x[[1]] <- as.character(x[[1]]) you would have seen the problem immediately (it does not work as you would have intended). If you want to be sure to turn off conversion to factor, you need to set the column to class "AsIs". My belief is that will behave

Title obscured when using par(mfrow) (PR#3463)
I want to put multiple plots on a page using par(mfrow), then a single title at the top. This should work, but doesn't: R> par(oma=c(0,0,4,0), mfrow=c(3,4)) R> for (i in 1:12) {plot(1); title(i)} R> ## text(10,10, ".") R> par(mfrow=c(1,1), oma=c(0,0,1,0)) R> title("Main Title") The main title does not appear. However, uncommenting the third line

rbind'ing empty rows in dataframes in 1.4.1 versus 1.5.0
Hi, In 1.4.1, I was able to create extra "empty" rows in a dataframe as so: > x <- data.frame(a = letters[1:3], b = 1:3) > x a b 1 a 1 2 b 2 3 c 3 > x[4,] a b NA NA NA > rbind(x, x[4,]) a b 1 a 1 2 b 2 3 c 3 NA NA NA > R.version _ platform sparc-sun-solaris2.6 arch sparc os solaris2.6

how to generate calculated db fields
I''m trying to generate a "page slug" i.e. a url sanitized id from some text in my model that I want to be saved into the database and I''m not seeing how I can do it. The closest I''ve come to getting this to work has been... class Page < ActiveRecord::Base attr :name before_save :generate_slug def generate_slug self.slug = self.name.gsub

Summary of Forcing variables types when using read.table
Thanks to Martyn Plummer and Vele Samak for taking the time to answer my problem. scan certainly will do the trick. However, having taken a look at the code for read.table, it seems to me that I might be able to add in a "what" argument and then just pass it down to the call to scan. But that won't be today's project . . . Dave Kane

WAIT FOR DIGIT not working
Hello all, I have been trying to solve this problem for days, with no luck. When I run an AGI script from my extensions.conf, it seems no matter what I do, the "WAIT FOR DIGIT" command will not work. The system just flies past it without waiting a single millisecond, and of course my script crashes because it doesn't have the input it needs. I have run 3 different versions of

trace an Rd conversion error in R cmd check
Hi All, Apologies if this is a very naive question. Is there a way to see the particular Rd file being processed right before a warning/error occurs? As far as I can tell, all my .Rd files use have names and titles and they are unique between Rd files (sometimes in a file I use something like \name{foo} \title{Foo}). I seem to be able to convert files to latex using: R CMD Rdconv --type=latex

1.4.1 release date
Has the likely release date for R 1.4.1 been set? Apologies if there is some obvious place on the web site that I could have looked this up at. We are eager to upgrade to 1.4, but some of the bugs matter to us. We have played around with the patched code, but have mainly succeeded in demonstrating that we need to learn more about UNIX code development . . . Thanks to all for a most excellent

SSL encryption with icecast2
Hi there, is it possible to use such encryption like SSL/TLS for authenticating users on a mountpoint? I can't find somethin like that in the docmentation and it would be nice to have such a mechanism like that, because all passwords will be transmitted in PLAIN text. This is not very secure, because anyone can see the usernames and passwords in his sniffer program. Would be pleased if

DRBD facts
Hi, I can''t find a way to add a page on the wiki (i''m logged in but there is no edit button on the facter recipes page), so here is a recipe for DRBD. It has been tested on version 0.8.4. Can someone publish it on the web site? if FileTest.exists?("/proc/drbd") result = {} Thread::exclusive do File.readlines("/proc/drbd").each do |l| if l =~
