The best way to end up with WMF files
Hi all
I am doing some stats work for a group of biologists
who require windows metafiles (*.wmf) for their publications.
To create these, I appear to have two choices:
1. Restart my machine in Windows and use savePlot
2. Keep my machine in linux, save as another format,
then convert.
I'd rather stay in linux; but how do I get wmf files? I looked
at using ImageMagick's convert,

save wmf with a batch file
Hi R users,
I'm working on a autoreporting with the batch mode of R: I would like to
save the graphs produced in wmf or emf. the problem is, it's working well
with the R gui because we print on the screen the graph devices but not with
the batch. I have used the function dev.print after encounter problem with
win.metafile.

Lattice + Word: Changing .wmf files to .pdf files
My apriori apologies if this is felt to be the wrong list for this issue -
although it starts with R, it's a combination of programs that creates the
problem.
Currently we are using windows metafile format for in-text tables for
reports created in Word. However, we've discovered some artifactual lines
being created in our final output once the Word document is changed to PDF.
The process

OT: PSTOWMF
Hallo,
I've produced via R-0.62 several Life-tables 50*6 (mfrow=c(2,3))
as postscriptgraphs. The phd student, who asked for this, use word for
windows--therefore i converted the whole stuff with pstoimg to gifs.
Unlikly the result is not sufficient (I was told)...
Is there a tool to convert ps to wmf/emf ? I looked for it but haven't
found anything...
Thanks for an answer

Re: win.metafiles in linux and R
I posted a similar query some months ago. Some people answered stating that
win.metafiles were not available for R in linux. However, I was suggested
to use the package RSvgDevice, which allows transforming any graphic device
into Scalable Vector Graphics format, this file can then be opened with
sodipodi, and really impresive stuff can be achieved. I also noticed that
OpenOffice for linux has an

win.metafile and Linux
Hi Folks,
I see that people have been discussing the win.metafile device
on the list since before 2000.
Yet I have never seen this on a Linux distribution of R.
Is this because the device works by making calls (GPL calls of
course!) to a proprietary Windows library?
In that case I can understand that it would be far from kosher to
implement it on Linux. But I'd like confirmation.

savePlot() no longer automatically adds an extension to the filename.
Plaintive squeak: Why the change?
Some OS's and desktops use the extension, so forgetting it causes
trouble. The new default filename keeps a filetype (as before) but the
user now has to type a filetype twice (once as the type, once as
extension) to get the same effect fo rtheir own filenames. And the
extension isn't then checked for consistency with valid file types, so
it can be

Help with evaluation of expressions
Hello all:
I have searched through the help files and I have been unsuccessful in
solving this problem.
I am trying to create a small wrapper function that will go around a
call to a plot function and create a windows metafile in the directory
and also write the name of the file to a text file. The purpose is to
efficiently bring a large number of plots into powerpoint. I am using

location of Tisean executables when using RTisean and jumping between linux and windows
Hi,
I wonder if someone could help. I needed to transfer (copy) a workspace
file that had been generated in linux (R 2.11) to windows running the
same version of R 2.11 (but of course windows binary). Usually, there is
no problem in doing this and all objects work as expected. I am often
doing this to be able to produce wmf or emf graphic files that I need.
This time I had some spectra that I

WMF conversion...
Hello R-Help,
I've got a bit of an issue with WMF's. I am working on WindowsXP and outputting WMF format images. I then take the WMF format images and insert them in PowerPoint. I take the PowerPoint and convert it to PDF.
The WMFs are nothing special. Just the typical x-y plot with a gray dotted grid added and a few matlines. The WMFs, when produced look great! They show

Wine WMF vulnerability?
Hi,
I recently read about that Wine is vulnerable against the WMF bug
that was recently closed on Windows. Is it really true?
Is Wine really as bug-for-bug compatible with Windows? :-)

Sweave: multiple graphic formats, e.g. win.metafile
Dear R devel,
being constrained to a windows environment at work and having colleagues being accustomed to the Microsoft Office Suite, I was looking for a way to have the RweaveLatex driver for Sweave automatically generating 'win.metafile's in addition to the pdf graphics.
Without this functionalilty, the generation of emf-graphics is quite laborious, I think:

WMF on Unix
A few of you have helpfully sent me references to WMF formats.
There is also some code to _read_ it at
http://www.csn.ul.ie/~caolan/docs/libwmf.html
However, the issue is to _write_ WMF on R under Unix. I am told (by
someone who has tried) that the problem is the if you write a WMF
file according to the published specs (which were once issued
by Microsoft) you find that e.g. Word does not read

oodraw command line usage
I use R to create .eps graphics and then use oodraw to convert them
to .emf versions. (One reason I do this is that OOo tends to
re-size .eps files and I haven't found a way to stop it or change it
once the graph is resized. .emf files are not distorted by OOo -
fortunately.) I use a command like:
> oodraw filename.eps &
The gui opens and then I select .emf and do an export. I
