R 1.2.3 for MacOS/X available
From release 1.2.3, R can run different Macintosh platforms.
Two versions are currently available that are non concurrent.
One version runs on MacOS Systems from 8.6 to 9.1 and MacOSX using the
standard MacOS/MacOSX interface, that means that is behaves like any
usual Macintosh application. (This is mantained by Stefano M. Iacus)
The other version is a Darwin/X11 that means a Unix-like

Darwin-Aqua R-devel
I've been able to build a very primitive Aqua GUI for Darwin R.
This version as minimum event handler support but at least you can drag
around the quartz device.
You need to download the RAqua.app.sit archive from
http://www.economia.unimi.it/R/
You need to unstuff it and put inside your system Applications folder
(i.e. /Applications)
If you click on the RAqua icon nothing will happen

RAqua with X11 TclTk
I've built a version of RAqua that uses X11 TclTk and NOT AquaTclTk.
http://www.economia.unimi.it/R/RAquaX11.dmg (15 MB disk image)
The idea is that you: launch RAqua, launch X application (the X
Server), and from inside R type
x11() # just tt set DISPLAY to :0.0. Eventually close this window
device, we don't need this.
load(tcltk)
quartz()
demo(tkdensity)
It works on my Panther

help, what's CarbonLib 1.20?
Greetings,
I downloaded R for my mac from software, R binaries, rm123, base and
then downloaded "rm123.sit.hqx" Now, when I open R and try to type
anything in the blank, I get a message that I need CarbonLib 1.20 or
newer to run R. Please tell me what this means and where to go to get
it.
By the way, when I type anything in and recieve the error message, R
will then refuse to close

stochastic process transition probabilities estimation
Hi all,
I'm new with R (and S), and relatively new to statistics (I'm a
computer scientist), so I ask sorry in advance if my question is silly.
My problem is this: I have a (sample of a) discrete time stochastic
process {X_t} and I want to estimate
Pr{ X_t | X_{t-l_1}, X_{t-l_2}, ..., X_{t-l_k} }
where l_1, l_2, ..., l_k are some fixed time lags. It will be enough for
me to compute

VorbisFile library crashs.
Hello!
There is a problem with the VorbisFile library. It only works when I open an
OGG file for
the 1st time. After I closed the file and try to open another one or the
same it crashs. It seems it applies to the use of either ov_open or ov_test
functions or their combination.
I wrote a test app that illustrates the bug. It crashs with a message
"Unmapped memory exception". It's

Environmental variables
I use a Mac (10.4.11 Mac Os X).
In my .tcshrc I define an environmental variable MY.
Is it possible to find out its value from inside R? When one loads
R for Mac OS X Cocoa GUI written by:
Simon Urbanek
Stefano M. Iacus
are files like .tcshrc read by R?
Can I make the value of this environmental variable available to R?
Sys.getenv() produces a lot of output, with the values of many

histogram with mean for every break
Dear R-users,
I need to produce a histogram where for every breaks there are the mean of the data.
I tried tu use the function >hist(x, break=20 ... ) but this return the numerosity for every breaks, not the mean.
Any hint?
Thanks in advance,
francesco

compressed folder bug
I found a strange behaviour in dovecot compressed folder, maybe a bug.
It happens only if you have one (and just one!) email in a gz compressed folder.
I'm talking about a mbox server.
Step to reproduce:
- create a new folder, using any client (I think this step is not important, it
happens also if tou create this folder server-side).
- copy one message (any message) into newly created

R 1.3.1 on OS9.1?
Dear List,
After my laptop was stolen I (eventually) replaced it with a G4
laptop running Mac OS 9.1 . This also meant I updated to the current
Mac binary 1.3.1. This is pretty wonderful except for one problem.
I normally save R figs as eps files using the Mac OS and then read
them into Latex documents. This no longer works as the legends
overwrite the diagrams. Saving as ps from R also does
