[fdo] Idea for more consistency across toolkits
Hi,
I had an idea which I think could dramatically improve the cross toolkit
display of widgets.
At the moment toolkits load their settings and a style from files stored
locally where the client is running. The problem with this approach is that
every toolkit has its own place and means of storing these settings. When
programs are run from more than one toolkit they often appear very

[Fwd: Re: Help a newbie pick a gui tool kit]
Hey Guys,
This just came over the rubytalk list. Does anybody have any Debian
experience?
BTW, one thing this project *really* could use is people to package
wxruby for <your distro here>. You don''t need SWIG/C++ experience for
it, and a little work could help a lot of people.

wxRuby and other GUI toolkits
So, having subscribed recently to the ruby-talk mailing list, I''ve
noticed that wxruby doesn''t seem to have the "respect" of other GUI
libraries. I know GUI-library preference is a holy war almost up there
with vi versus emacs, but since I''m a wxruby developer, I''d like to know
what people "don''t" like about wxruby. Otherwise,

gnome gui question
I have compiled R 1.7.1 with gnome and installed the gtkDevice on a Linux
RH 8 system. This is my first use of this device and I have two
questions about it.
1. After running R --rui="gnome", the console comes up. To open a
graphics window, I open the gtkDevice library [library(gtkDevice)], then
start a gtk device [gtk()]. After the library command, I receive the

[R-pkg] New packages pmg, gWidgets, gWidgetsRGtk2
I'd like to announce three new packages on CRAN: pmg, gWidgets, and

The pmg package for R provides a relatively simple graphical user

Basically this means a menu-driven interface to dialogs that collect

wxRuby is now linked from the wxWindows site
I sent a message to Julian (the primary author of wxWindows), and he
immediately added wxRuby to the list of "Related Projects" on the
"Community" page of the wxWindows site:
http://wxwindows.org/
Thanks to Gour for suggesting this.
We are also listed in the Ruby RAA, under Library, GUI.
If anyone knows of other places we should be linked, let me know. Or
better yet,

need gui matrix editor: does R Core team have advice on how?
Dear R-devel:
Would R core team consider endorsing a graphical toolkit and trying to
facilitate development of little GUI tools?
I need a gui matrix editor for users that want to be able to write
matrices that are later used to simulate data. Instead of teaching
them to write a covariance matrix (for example, for mvtnorm), I want
to tell them run a function that pops up a table they can fill

wxXRC library
Hi,
I started developing with wxRuby with the 0.1.0 release, and have been very
pleased. As a ruby and wxWindows fan, I was happy to see the wxruby
project, and have been very impresed with the implementation.
I''ve been working on supporting the XML resources (wxXRC), and have an
issue I''d like some advice on. XRC plugged in very nicely, and I was able
to query resources.

Need Help with StatET Error/Bug? on Ubuntu 8.10 amd64
Hi,
I posted this message on the StatET-user board last week, but it looks like
a ghost-town...
I have a bad feeling that there is some code in the plug-in which doesn't
work well with my environment, but if I am lucky, maybe other users have
worked around this problem somehow - I am hoping that my setup is the issue.
Note: very similar StatET setups on 32-bit XP Pro and Vista run

announcement
Hi
Now we''ve got the download problems nailed, shall we do an announcement
on comp.lang.ruby? I can do it if you''re really busy, but Kevin I think
you have first refusal as you''re owed the biggest chunk of kudos for
getting us this far.
re patch backlog: no worries - just clearing the decks before having
another go at integrating wxScintilla - but I can''t

[Fwd: LispStat, R and ViSta [was: Re: Status?]]
Byron
I meant there is no native (Aqua) version of GTK yet (there is
wxWindows and Qt and Tk, so
possibly GTK will follow). The X11 version of RGtk works for me too. I
agree with your
diagnosis of the GUI problem.

R GUI considerations (was: R, Wine, and multi-threadedness)
Hello,
Following a discussion initiated on r-devel, that mentions SciViews-R
and other GUIs issues for R, I would like to make comments (and would be
happy if these comments would initiate interesting initiatives).
A big, big problem with SciViews-R is that a part of it is written in
Visual Basic 6, a M$$$$ language, not supported any more, buggy, non
transposable to other platforms, etc,

color management spec
As part of my GSoC project I have to work out a spec that covers how
applications should communicate color management related properties
between each other and the compositing manager. The main idea of the
project is to let the compositing manager do the color management on
behalf of the applications. But before that can happen, the applications
have to tell the compositing manager how they want

wxWindows 2.4.2
My system just upgraded itself to wxGtk 2.4.2. I re-built everything,
and had no compile errors. The minimal sample worked fine. I haven''t had
a chance to do more testing.
But, it appears that wxruby is compatible with wxWindows 2.4.2.
