Rversion.h
Our current intention is to no longer include Rversion.h from R.h as from
R 1.6.0 (which is months away).
Package maintainers when revising code might like to check if they
actually use Rversion.h, and if so include it explicitly.
I did a quick grep through the CRAN packages, and in all but one case
(mda) the test is for R < 1.2.0, so it may be simplest just to tidy up
and add `Depends: R

GenGC changes
As most R developers maybe are already aware of, R version 1.2.0
introduced a new `generational' garbage collector which means that
strings and vectors (and language objects) are handled differently from
the numerical atomic types.
>From ``Writing R Extensions'':
Earlier code was written in a style like.
VECTOR(dimnames)[0] = getAttrib(x, R_NamesSymbol);

Question on trying to build R 2.11.1 on Tru64(aka OSF1)
First I tried 'setenv R_SHELL /usr/local/bin/bash', as bash is the weapon
of choice for the faculty wishing to use R, then ran ./configure as before.
The ./configure output line
using as R_SHELL for scripts ... /usr/local/bin/bash
would seem to indicate that the R_SHELL environment variable was recognized
and acknowledged. However, I got the same build error:

RODBC patchlet
[ Disclaimer: Yes, I do know that RODBC is in a state of minor limbo as far
as maintenance is concerned. But it is also useful, and used, which is why I
hope that someone might apply the small change outlined below. ]
The current version in CRAN's devel directories fails to build under R 1.6.1

How to set R_CStackLimit
Hi,
I have tried to disable stack checking by set R_CStackLimit to -1. However,
it always crashes my win32 multiple threads program. I am using R-2.5.0. My
code looks like:
#include <Rversion.h>
#if (R_VERSION >= R_Version(2,3,0))
#define R_INTERFACE_PTRS 1
#define CSTACK_DEFNS 1
#include <Rinterface.h>
#endif
and then, add below line to my main function:
R_CStackLimit =

One more for the wish list
Having just upgraded to 063.3 reminds me of a wish I have had for a long
time. Could we not have libraries (sorry, packages) other than for the
base distribution in a subdirectory [Rpath]/library/local/ or perhaps
/library/packages.
This tiny change would make administration so much simpler; I could move
all the old packages into the new library in one fell swoop. Granted
it's not hopelessly

R_ext/Altrep.h should be more C++-friendly
I am not able to #include "R_ext/Altrep.h" from a C++ file. I think
it needs two changes:
1. add the same __cplusplus check as most of the other header files:
#ifdef __cplusplus
extern "C" {
#endif
...
#ifdef __cplusplus
}
#endif
2. change the line
R_new_altrep(R_altrep_class_t class, SEXP data1, SEXP data2);

possible bug in R's configure check for C++11 features
I am trying to compile R under a new setup, and frankly, I have had a lot
of problems, but I think the stuff below points to a possible bug in R's
(custom) configure checks for C++11/14/17, but not for C++98.
This is a report about R from the R-3-6 branch, with a svn checkout from
today, revision r77135.
In my case the compiler name is x86_64-conda_cos6-linux-gnu-g++, not g++. I

RCMD fails in Windows XP
I have setup R 1.9.1 on my Dell laptop running windows XP. I have
installed it to C:\R\rw1091. Rgui runs fine, but Rcmd fails if run with
parameters (i.e. install). The windows dialog box cheerfully says "R for
Windows front-end has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience." Running the visual C++ debugger informs me
that there is an unhandled

robustbase compilation problem: probably boneheaded? maybe 32-bit?
With a recent SVN build (R Under development (unstable) (2013-07-10
r63264) -- "Unsuffered Consequences"), I'm having trouble installing the
robustbase package. The bottom line is that I *think* it's a
32-bit-system problem, but I could easily be mistaken.
robustbase is passing its package checks:

(PR#8363) R CMD INSTALL fails if cd prints stuff to stdout
What shells are these? You don't give an example that causes trouble, and
in particular no way to reproduce this.
The behaviour you describe is prohibited by the POSIX standard, so the
problem would appear to be with the unnamed shell. I can see how it could
happen if a user redefines 'cd', but then a user could redefine all the
commands in his OS and we have to make some

[PATCH RFC 0/3] virtio: add new notify() callback to virtio_driver
Hi,
when an active virtio block device is hot-unplugged from a KVM guest, running
affected guest user applications are not aware of any errors that occur due
to the lost device. This patch-set adds code to avoid further request queueing
when a lost block device is detected, resulting in appropriate error info.

literate programming
I'm working on the next iteration of coxme. (Rather slowly during the summer).
This is the most subtle code I've done in S, both mathematically and
technically, and seems a perfect vehicle for the "literate programming" paradym
of Knuth. The Sweave project is pointed at S output however, not source code.
I would appreciate any pointers to an noweb type client that was

X11 is not availble
Hi there,
after several problems with installing R on a Debian server It now
finally works at least roughly. With roughly I mean that the 'core'
function do work properly, but I'm still having problems with the
image export. When I try to call

"white")
I just get the error message
