Segfault in GetNewPage, memory.c.
Hello.
I'm still working on my OCaml-R binding and I get a segfault in the
GetNewPage() function of memory.c.
For the record, the OCaml-R binding seems to work fine with OCaml
bytecode. The segfault here is the main issue I have with OCaml native
code. OCaml-R can be found on the following links.

R-beta: multiple binary types
I've modified the "$RHOME/bin/R" and "$RHOME/cmd/filename" so that you
can use the same directories for multiple machines. That is, machines
running various flavors of UNIX can access the same directories.
The modified structure adds the directories
$RHOME/bin/$OSTYPE/
$RHOME/lib/$OSTYPE/
to hold the machine specific binaries.
For instance, here the $RHOME directory

[LLVMdev] New inliner metrics
Hi,
I have just committed r94615 which changes how the cost of inlining a function is calculated.
Mostly I have changed constants so the metrics are closer to reality.
If you are suddenly losing performance on an important benchmark, it may be because something is not getting inlined any more.
If your -Os binaries are suddenly a lot smaller, that was probably the inliner too.
The new metrics

Improved version of Rprofmem
The Rprofmem facility is currently enabled only if the configuration
option --enable-memory-profiling is used. However, the overhead of
having it enabled is negligible when profiling is not actually being
done, and can easily be made even smaller. So I think it ought to be
enabled all the time.
I've attached a patch doing this, which also makes a number of other
improvements to Rprofmem,

Moderating consequences of garbage collection when in C
Allocating many small objects triggers numerous garbage collections as R
grows its memory, seriously degrading performance. The specific use case
is in creating a STRSXP of several 1,000,000's of elements of 60-100
characters each; a simplified illustration understating the effects
(because there is initially little to garbage collect, in contrast to an
R session with several packages

1.2.1 segfault
I've trapped this segfault with gdb, but I'm not sure what it means or what to do
next.

Postfix - message queue filling with Host or name not found - try again
Hi list,
I have noted over the last week or so my DNS servers are dumping lots of
messages for bogus domain lookups. Examining the postfix queue with

Can't connect to SMTP outside localhost
I have Dovecot setup with Postfix and can't seem to connect to to the SMTP
server (port 25) unless I'm on the server itself (telnet localhost 25). For
example, I cannot use my mail client, Thunderbird, to send mail from my
laptop -- it cannot even connect to the server. I checked the logs and
nothing shows up for the attempted connection.

Memory Fragmentation in R
I have a data set of roughly 700MB which during processing grows up to
2G ( I'm using a 4G linux box). After the work is done I clean up (rm())
and the state is returned to 700MB. Yet I find I cannot run the same
routine again as it claims to not be able to allocate memory even though
gcinfo() claims there is 1.1G left.

Hi
Patch "drm/nouveau: use drm_mm in preference to custom code doing the same thing"
in nouveau tree introduced new deadlock possibility, for which lockdep complains loudly:

can't find array overruns (was: help debugging segfaults)
Dear R-devel,
Last week I got several responses to my question about debugging segfaults
in my code (original post below). After I changed the S_alloc() calls to
Calloc()/Free(), the symptom was gone, but I was told to keep looking. So I
did:
o Switched to Calloc/Free. Electric Fence did not find any problem.
o Put assert(index < bound); assert(index >=0); everywhere in the C routine

(Sorry for the cross-post--- I wasn't sure which list is more

Hi everyone,
I've run into segfaults when using my randomForest package on large dataset
(e.g., 100 x 15200) and large number of trees (e.g., ntree=7000 and
mtry=3000). I'm wondering if anyone can give me some hints on where to look
for the problem.
