Re: [R] Hmisc and Design libraries
Great news! Having spent a significant amount of time porting/mantaining some packages on S4/Splus 5.x and R, I'm interested in your experience as you port Hmisc and Design; I'd like to know of your progress in order to help improve available R/Splus portability tools both at the C and the S language code. These tools include the package SLanguage written by John Chambers, and

I've tried getting in touch with him at both fharrell at virginia.edu and f.harrell at vanderbilt.edu, but messages to either of those addresses get bounced. Frank, if you're reading this, please email me from an account that will accept a reply. Jeff Hallman

FW: Cent. Mov. Ave
I recently wrote a function to compute functions over moving windows. (See below). It varies from your request by using the last N points rather than the last N/2 and next N/2 points, so you may have to modify it to get what you want. It will be in the next gregmisc package, which will go out in a month or so when the publication review process here finishes. (I hate red tape!) -Greg

Bug in "[<-.matrix"? (Was: Feature Request: "matrix[1:10,1:10, block=F] <- 1:10")
Thanks to David Meyer [david.meyer@ci.tuwien.ac.at] and David Brahm [brahm@alum.mit.edu] who suggested: m[ cbind(index.i, index.j) ] <- vals This works fine for the example I gave. Unfortunately, this approach doesn't extend to using the row and column names to make assignments: > m <- matrix("",ncol=3,nrow=3) > dimnames(m) <-
