dotplot: character size of labels
Dear R users,
using dotplot (R1.2.0, WinNT4.0), I am trying to change the character size
of the labels of the points:
> # example
> data(VADeaths)
> dotplot(VADeaths, main = "Death Rates in Virginia - 1940")
> # I'd like to have smaller character size of the labels (for age and
population groups)
> ?dotplot

colours in dotchart (PR#4343)
Problem: neither fg or bg
nor color work properly in dotchart.
version: R-1.7.1 for windows
code which shows the errors:
x <-
matrix(rnorm(16),ncol=2,dimnames=list(paste("a",1:8,sep=""),c("before","afte
r")))
dotchart(x,fg="blue",bg="lightgrey")
dotchart(x,color=c("red","blue"))

dotchart vs. dotplot ... groups
I'm trying to create a dotplot with some grouping.
I've been able to create what I want using dotchart (basic graphics), but can't quite get it using dotplot (lattice). I prefer to use lattice (or ggplot2) because I think it's a bit easier to control some other aspects of the plot appearance.
Basically, w/ lattice I've not been able to get the y-axis label to include the

dotchart.R and left margin
Hello,
In trying to minimize the margin on the left hand side when using
dotchart I found what may be a typo in the code.
In the lines below from dotchart.R, should nmai[4L] be nmai[2L]?
if (!(is.null(labels) && is.null(glabels))) {
nmai <- par("mai")
nmai[2L] <- nmai[4L] + max(linch + goffset, ginch) + 0.1
par(mai = nmai)
}
Thank you,

Muchas gracias

Cleveland Dot plots: tick labels and error bars
Dear list,
I've been learning how to make a 2x2 paneled dotplot in lattice without any
previous experience using lattice.
my code thusfar is:
nut<-read.table("/Users/colinwahl/Desktop/nutsimp_noerror.csv", T, sep=
",")
attach(nut)
nut1<-data.frame(Nitrate, Total_Nitrogen, Phosphate, Total_Phosphorus)
nut1<-as.matrix(nut1)

lattice dotplot and graphic devices on Windows
I am using R1.4.0 on WindowsNT (the precompiled version from Brian Ripley's
website) and the lattice package (version details are at the end of this
message).
After producing a lattice dotplot, I want to insert the graph into a
MicrosoftWord document. With "ordinary" R-graphics, I have done this
successfully by copying the graph as a metafile to the clipboard and pasting
this into my

Dotchart per groups
Hi all,
I would like to ask you for help. I did a dotplot - using dotchart
function.
There are two localites (loc) with values 75 or 56 in my data ZZ.
The f column has 4 levels: P1, S1, S8, R6.
The dataframe is ordered by N value, pchloc value is assign to use "pch" in
plot.
> head(ZZ)
loc f N color ordered pchloc
98 75 S1 6.39 green 1 16
99 75 S8 6.44 blue

dotplot/Dotplot: connecting points within factor level across time
For each level of the factor in dotplot, I have time points I'd like to
connect with a line. In the example below, 'x' represents a starting
time and 'd' a duration, and I wish to connect 'x' to 'x+d'. Ordinarily
I would use Dotplot from hmisc for this, but I have not been able to
find a time class that Dotplot will allow. I can get lattice dotplot to

[lattice] lines for stripplot (like dotplot) or jitter for dotplot?
I'd like to use stripplot for some plots because I want to use
the jitter parameter. On the other hand, I'd like to use dotplot
because I'd like to have the horizontal lines that it includes.
dotplot doesn't have a jitter option and I'm not having any
success with getting panel.grid(h=-1) with stripplot. Can anyone
show me how to make dotplot-like lines on a stripplot? Or

make a lattice dotplot with symbol size proportional to a variable in the plotted dataframe
Handling NSE in these kinds of examples is a pain in lattice. I would
suggest using with() and dropping the data argument for simple examples,
e.g.,
dd |> mutate(new.proportion = las/total, new.bubble = total/100) |>
with(dotplot(agency ~ new.proportion, pch = 16, cex = new.bubble))
But if you care about multi-panel plots, you also need to be careful about
making sure that the

Can R make an usual dotplot
Dear R experts,
Can R make an usual dotplot just like Minitab and other softwares?
I have the following data, and can use dotchart to graph a dotplot:

Question about dotplot
Hello:
I am playing with the dotplot command (in preparation for
teaching an EDA course). I do not understand the following
behaviour of dotplot when x is a vector. These examples
have been tried on both Linux version 0.63 and guido's
Windows version 0.63 running under Windows 95.
I searched the bug reporting system, but found no mention
of any report concerning dotplot.

dotplot() lattice charts return blank image (jpeg, bmp, png) file
Thanks in advance for the help. Trying to run a basic dotplot in lattice from R command line. When the file is created, in Fedora, it is blank image (jpeg, bmp, png). Image produces correctly in Windows environment. Libraries lattice and latticeExtra are loaded. Code:

jpeg(file = "/tmp/img/temp31.jpg", width = 768, height=768)
xy <- dotplot(1:10)

Color of CI bars in Hmisc::Dotplot()
Dear R-helpers,
(1) I can't figure out how to tell Dotplot that I want the colors of
the CI bars to be the same as the colors of the dots.
For example:
t2a.ci3 <- data.frame(est = c(7, 20, 75), lower = c(-9, 0.5, 42),
upper = c(22, 39, 109))
mypal <- c('skyblue3', 'mistyrose3')
condNames <- c('noise', 'horn', 'marimba')

dotplot in a loop
Hi all,
I'm a newbie R developer, am trying to dotplot a few graphs using a for
loop.
The following code works fine but once I wanna plot inside a loop, nothing
happens.
> for(i in 1:1){dotplot(y~x)}
> y <- c(1,2,3)
> x <- c('a','b','c')
> dotplot(y~x)
> for (i in 1:3) {dotplot(y~x)} (y and x depends on I in actual case)
Nothing happens.

How to auto-scale cex of y-axis labels in lattice dotplot?
When I create a dotplot in lattice, I frequently observe overplotting
of the labels along the vertical axis. On my screen, this illustrates
overplotting of the letters:
windows()
reps=6
dat=data.frame(let=rep(letters,each=reps), grp=rep(1:reps, 26),
y=runif(26*reps))
dotplot(let~y|grp, dat)
Is there a way to automatically scale the labels so that they are not
over-plotted?
I currently do
