Multiresponse parameter estimation
I am looking for a way to do multiresponse parameter estimation for a problem that is quite similar in form to the alpha-pinene example in Bates and Watts (1988), p. 147, where the model is a set of ODEs. I am specifically interested in obtaining the parameter covariance matrix, as well. Which package(s) in R would I use to do such a thing? Mark Schaffer Dept. of Chemical Engineering

netscape to become freely redistributable
I presume by now that most everyone has heard that, starting later this quarter with Netscape 5.0's developers' release, the Netscape browser program and its source code will become freely redistributable. They didn't say it would be GPL'd (GNU Public License) but they said their source code would be available in the spirit of the GPL. Initially it bothered me that the

File opening error after 1020 files opened
Hi, I am trying to use "read.pnm" from the package "pixmap" to read more than 10 thousand image files in "mydir". > file.list <- dir( "mydir", full=T) > for( i in 1:length(file.list) ) { print(i) x <- read.pnm(file.list[i]) } In the beginning it was fine. But after reading 1020 images or so, the read.pnm function seems to crash on

R-beta: netscape/R interaction
Using netscape 4.03 (or 2.x or 3.x)/ R-0.62.1 with SPARC Solaris 2.4: when netscape is running for help, graphics in R quit with "Color allocation error". Closing netscape removes the problem. netscape does not interfere with other X11 imaging programs including ghostscript and ImageMagick except that it increases the contrast in my mailer windows slightly. R CMD INSTALL cannot find libf77blas
I feel like Marlon Brando in "On the Waterfront" where he's told "It's not your night, kid", except for me it has been the last two months trying to debug memory problems. Now I can't even install an old version of this package on a netbook running the Ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix because it can't find the libraries libf77blas and libatlas. I have even gone to

Using konqueror with help.start
For R-1.2.3 on a Debian 2.3 (testing) GNU/Linux system I would like to have help.start use Konqueror (the KDE web browser) instead of netscape. I can start it with help.start(browser = "konqueror") but trying to search for terms from the search page does not work. My guess is that I need to configure javascript. The default is not to allow javascript at all. I do not wish to

Summarizing levels for future commands
Hi. This will hopefully be readily understood but if not, bear with me. I have to do a repeated analysis (in spatstat) and want to batch file it. For each of my 'runs' certain variables change. At present I am manually specifying these changes and want to automate it if possible. Ok, I am creating an object which is comprised of 'levels' that are 'characters'. Further

Treetop or like grammar for Markdown (in Ruby)
Has anyone seen any attempts to give Markdown a PEG (parsing expressions grammar) recognizable by some ruby PEG parser generator grammar like Treetop? http://treetop.rubyforge.org/

R-beta: R rules!
I am a long-time Mac user. R is way behind on that platform, which is one reason why I decided to try out Linux on intel. I have the system set up and have installed R (using Slackware, which is only distribution my tech services wants me to use). It went very smoothly, thanks everyone behind R! I installed R in the directory /usr/local/bin/R-0.50-a4/ Not sure if this is a sensible set-up.

rob var/cov + LAD regression
Hi, after looking around I was not able to get info about these two questions: 1. Is there a function to have a "jackknifed corrected var/cov estimate" (as described in MacKinnon and White 1985) in a standard OLS regression? 2. Does R possess a LAD (Least Absolute Deviation) regression function? Any help? Thanks -- ======================================================== Angelo

sys_setgroups failed on Solaris 11
Hi, I'm trying to create a new Samba server to share files. We currently have an instance of Samba 3.6 on another server which we are using but need to retire that server. I recently set up a new AD domain on Samba 4.3.11 on Ubuntu 16.04. There are two domain controllers. Most of the PCs are joined to this AD domain. Our user accounts and group memberships are maintained in an LDAP

testing and ploting t-distribution
Hi there, I am doing a test to see the the residual is distributed in the form of t-distribution and trying to plot the residuals and the t-distribution to compare in the graph.  Cheers, Bill  ----- Original Message ----- From: r-help-request@r-project.org Date: Wednesday, December 1, 2010 1:29 am Subject: confirm 1f8ffd55c611e2b0ed4ed4d2b79a8d9b30182a95 To: 5qy@queensu.ca > Mailing

help with tryCatch
Could smb please help with try-catch encapsulating a function for downloading. Let's say I have a character vector of symbols and want to download each one and surround by try and catch to be safe # get.hist.quote() is in library(tseries), but the question does not depend on it, I could be sourcing local files instead ans=null;error=null; for ( sym in sym.vec){

Tobit regression
Does anyone have an R function for the estimation of Tobit regression models (for censored responses), as described, e.g., in Davidson, R. and MacKinnon, J.G., 1993, Section 15.7, Estimation and Inference in Econometrics, Oxford University Press? NEWS.md support on CRAN
John MacFarlane, the author of Pandoc, has been working on a project ( http://commonmark.org/) to define a standard reference for Markdown*. There are already two reference implementations, one in javascript, the other in C: https://github.com/jgm/cmark Regards, baptiste * There was some initial controversy with the original author of markdown, but in the long term it's probably one of the

markdown PEG (parsing expression grammar)
There's been a lot of discussion on this list about creating a formal grammar for markdown. I had a go at writing a [parsing expression grammar] for markdown. I used Haskell and John Meacham's Frisby PEG parsing library, but it should not be too hard to port the grammar to PEG libraries in other languages. [parsing expression grammar]:

Create single vector after looping through multiple data frames with GREP
Hello all, I changed the subject line of the e-mail, because the question I''m posing now is different than the first one. I hope that this is proper etiquette. However, the original chain is included below. I've incorporated bits of both Ethan and Brian's code into the script below, but there's one aspect I can't get my head around. I'm totally new to programming
