Missing dependency in C6 ISO
Greetings, I had downloaded c6 64 bits ISO, selected all packages to be installed. One dependency warning relating to Emacs appeared. I chose to continue. Unfortunately I was multitasking and did not note down the package name Twice this issue appeared -- first time around aborted install due to power cut. Did anybody else face this situation? Also is there a better way with just DVDs and not

[OT] stupid firmware question...
I know this is a really stupid question, but I just have to ask... Where would I start if I wanted to try and develop my own firmware for a particular phone. Namely, I want to try and 're-write' the SIP firmware for Cisco 7940's. Any ideas? -Chris PS: [* put on flame suit *] why won't any of the phone manufacturer's just open-source the firmware for their phones? [*

No CentOS 8 Updates announced in Centos-announce email list
I learned from the Centos-devel email list that they aren't sending out email to centos-announce for updates to CentOS 8, but only updating an RSS feed. I think this is a bad idea since no one uses RSS anymore (ducks for cover). What do others here think of this? -- *Matt Phelps* *Information Technology Specialist, Systems Administrator* (Computation Facility, Smithsonian Astrophysical

Limit login attempts per connection?
Dovecot allows a large number of login attempts per connection. I'd like to reduce that number to, say, 1, and let my firewall keep the ducks at bay, but I can't find anything in /etc/dovecot.conf or by googling. How do I do it? Do I need to patch the source? dovecot-1.1.10-1.x86_64 on CentOS 5.4 -- ____________________________________________________________________ TonyN.:'

PR#1132.
Just now I again had occasion to want nested describe lists in a documentation file. I found that the bug which I reported on 18 October, 2001 still persists. I checked on the bug report at the R web page, and found that the notes say ``Not a problem in R 1.4.0 (2001-12-08)''. Well, it's still a problem for me --- using R 1.4.1. OT: hardware, IBM 3650 M2 won't power on
Just for grins, pull off the cover and look at the electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard. Look for ones with the tops pushed up instead of being flat. This can cause all sorts of odd behavior. Often the machine with a blown capacitor will continue to run till it is powered off. Mostly I see this on Dell machines but have seen it on other machines as well. They are pretty easy to

Mail has quit working
Added back the IPV6 to /etc/hosts a couple days ago for grins and giggles. No longer getting IPV6 errors in logwatch for bind. Everything working. I think removing my ISP's nameservers from /etc/resolv.conf was the fix. They have been in there forever so still have my fingers crossed. Again, many thanks!!

Problems using gamlss to model zero-inflated and overdispersed count data: "the global deviance is increasing"
Dear all, I am using gamlss (Package gamlss version 4.0-0, R version 2.10.1, Windows XP Service Pack 3 on a HP EliteBook) to relate bird counts to habit variables. However, most models fail because “the global deviance is increasing” and I am not sure what causes this behaviour. The dataset consists of counts of birds (duck) and 5 habit variables measured in the field (n= 182). The dependent

yum and /etc/redhat-release
Hi - I used yum to update CentOS 4.6. After the reboot after the upgrade, the file /etc/redhat-release still indicates I'm at CentOS 4.6. The lastest release of CentOS 4 is CentOS 4.7. So how do I use yum to upgrade from 4.6 to 4.7? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Ken -- Article. VI. Clause 3 of the constitution of the United States states: "The Senators and

Asterisk 1.2.6, VMWare, & Playback/Background GSM prompts
I've spent the past week experimenting with Asterisk@Home 2.6, and then Asterisk 1.2.6 individually, on VMWare Workstation 5.5. I have an entirely IP (hard & soft)phone setup (IAX and SIP) so I have no requirements to support any Digium PCI cards, etc. All in Asterisk works extremely well except for one thing: Playback of sounds (GSM format) such as an ivr greetings, sound terrible.

CentOS 6, Raid 1, and LVM
I'm in the process of rebuilding one of my machines and I've been using Raid 1 with LVM on a CentOS 5 OS. I'm trying to get my ducks in a row to move to CentOS 6. However, I can't seem to locate and on the instructions/tutorials that show how to duplicate my Raid 1 LVM environment running CentOS 6. I saw the 'Partionable Raid 1 on CentOS 5 and 6', but it stopped

undocumented name mangling during unlist?
The documentation for unlist says: By default, 'unlist' tries to retain the naming information present in 'x'. If 'use.names = FALSE' all naming information is dropped. Hence, I find it odd that I see the following: > b <- list("highway1"=1:5) > unlist(b) highway11 highway12 highway13 highway14 highway15 1

security = domain and NetBIOS aliases
Hi everyone, I rely on about 8 NetBIOS aliases on my samba filer. I have been using security = server, but I have been running to some strange issues where if a user just logs off and then back on, they are denied access to shares. If they reboot, they can then get back in ok. I've set debugging up, and it appears that samba does not recognize the user after a logoff/logon, and uses nobody as
