Partioning Error: Dual Boot, WinXP & CentOS5, 27 GB Free space; my error is?
Hello: Starting Friday afternoon, I blew away the installations on the three (3) boxes we use as Desktops. On two (2) of them (my Dell Dimension 2400 and my wife's Compaq Evo D300v), I have MS Windows XP and CentOS5 running. :-) On my daughters box (Dell Dimension 4300) I am having problems with the partitioning. Probably this is due to some mistake I have made, with regard to

Reinstalled Windows and GRUB - Cannot boot Linux - fstab and grub.conf errors?
Background: This is a dual boot (Windows XP and CentOS 5.2 (32 bit) box. There were four (4) NTFS partitions. The C partition got full. I deleted the 4 NTFS partitions and did a clean install of Windows XP, into one (1) NTFS partition. I knew that I would need to install GRUB again and I did that, using the CentOS 5 Installation DVD. When I tried to boot into Linux, no joy. this is the GRUB error

Dual boot box: WinXP & CentOS 5: Impossible to restore WinXP?
We rarely use M$ Windows, but I let my daughter surf pbskids.org while using Windows and a Trojan Horse modified or deleted the user32.dll file. I found the instructions on the Microsoft Support web site, and it would be very easy for me to expand a new copy of user32.dll if I could get the MS WinXP CD to work. It boots OK, I press a key so it will search hardware and it then has hard drive

Skype Public Key - How to install PGP Public Key in CentOS5, from alternate site that I have in web browser?
Hello: A simple question: On this Wiki page: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype it says that the normal method for the Public Key isn't working. I copied the URL for the alternate key location http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/infosys/phone/skype/rpm-public-key.asc into the browser and I get a PGP Public Key. Question: What rpm command do I use, to Import the Public Key that's in the browser

memory.size() for large memory usage (PR#11596)
This amusing behaviour is from R2.6.1 on WinXP Pro SP2 running with boot.in= i /3GB flag, exploring memory limits. =20 When actual (object, not total) memory usage hits 2048 MB, memory.size star= ts counting down again, but reports a negative amount, e.g. -2046.333. Dual boot box: WinXP & CentOS 5: Impossible torestoreWinXP?
I wouldn't necessarily wipe the whole HD, just the windows partition. You could also use Xen in CentOS 5 for your Windows virtualization. I'd wait for 5.1 though which will be more refined then version 5. I've been thinking of setting up a Xen machine of my own with a Windows HVM and a couple of Linux PVMs with their GUIs/consoles pinned to different virtual consoles. It has always

Execution of Rprofile.site
Hi everyone. I have recently installed R 2.14.1 on my 64-bit Windows 7 laptop. I am attempting to include some favourite functions in the Rprofile.site file to run at R start-up as I did with my previous 32-bit XP machine. I have edited the Rprofile.site file in "C:\Program Files\R\R-2.14.1\etc\" but the added code doesn't seem to be executed when I run R, whether through Tinn-R

"yum update" did not update kernel on one box
This morning, I did "yum update" on my wife's box. It did not update the kernel. I ran the command again, and there is a response that no updates are available. Her box is a Compaq Evo D300v Celeron. During the past couple of days, when I did "yum update", on my daughters box and mine (Dell Dimensions), the kernel was updated and in the GRUB menus now, there are two (2)

Installing Google's Picasa for Linux on CentOS 5
I downloaded the .rpm file from Google and am trying to install Picasa for Linux on CentOS 5. I get the below error. Is this because I'm using SELinux or because of something else? I found a small Picasa folder in /opt (24 items, 143.7 KB) but it seems to end there. Picasa is one of the programs my wife uses on Windows. TIA! fstab labels
Hi, Recently during an upgrade I was asked to use labels or UUID in /etc/fstab. I've done that and everything went fine, except for the only CD/DVD ROM device in my system. According to KInfoCenter (the KDE devide information application) the this device has the label: CD/DVD Drive. So I placed this line in /etc/fstab: LABEL="CD/DVD Drive" /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user, noauto 0
