Replacing '.self' with an .Rda image of '.self' from within a method?
Dear list, Is it possible to update or reassign '.self' with an image of '.self' (e.g. a locally stored .Rda file) from within a method? I know that this might sound akward, but here's the use case: 1) Ref Class Definition setRefClass(Class="Test", fields=list(A="character", B="character"),

Simple question about function with glm
Dear all, I coded a function called u.glm u.glm <- function (x,ahi,age,bmiz,gender) { library(nortest) lil.rslt <- lillie.test(x) if (lil.rslt$p.value >0.05) { cat("Logtrans=0, lillie=",lil.rslt$p.value,"\n") xmodel<-glm(x~ahi+age+bmiz+as.factor(gender)) summary(xmodel) confint(xmodel) } else { cat("Logtrans=1,

R + C + Lapack toy regression example
dear list, since matrix manipulations is often of interest in statistical computations, i'd like to get a working example of using Lapack for regression. However, i run into an error. My matrix-lapack-example.c file: #include <R_ext/Lapack.h> void reg(const char* trans, const int* m, const int* n, const int* nrhs, double* a, const int* lda, double* b, const int*

Missing values in argument of .Fortran.
I wish to pass a vector ``y'', some of whose entries are NAs to a fortran subroutine which I am dynamically loading and calling by means of .Fortran(). The subroutine runs through the vector entry by entry; obviously I want to have it do one thing if y[i] is present and a different thing if it is missing. The way I am thinking of proceeding is along the xlines of: ymiss <- is.na(y)

left.solve
I have sort of an emergency question for the list. One of my professors for an S-Plus intensive class distributed a function to produce partial regression plots. I need to run it under R, because I'm doing the homework on my home computer with a modem; hence I don't have the speed required to emulate X-Windows and run S Plus off one of the campus servers. Bottom line: I'm using R.

categorical variable coefficients in QSAR
Dear list: I am interested in the following sort of problem, as is found frequently in the field of QSAR. I have biological activity as a function of chemical structure, with structure defined in a categorical manner in that the SUBSTITUENT is the levels of the POSITION factor. For example, data from Kubinyi (http://www.kubinyi.de/dd-12.pdf) for this type of analysis is presented as follows:

[PATCH] v2v: virtio-win: include *.dll too
Windows QXL drivers include also qxldd.dll which used to get filtered out and not copied over into the guest. As a result QXL driver failed to install due to a missing file. Correct that, and update the tests accordingly. Signed-off-by: Roman Kagan <rkagan@virtuozzo.com> --- v2v/fake-virtio-win/drivers/i386/Win7/qxldd.dll | 1 + v2v/test-v2v-in-place.sh | 1 +

Hi all, v2 includes all comments from Pino and Richard. I also removed the mkdir /run/lvm in the init since it only failed in one case and couldn't reproduce it anymore. Add Significance Codes to Data Frame
I was hoping that there might be some way to attach significance code like the ones from summary.lm to a dataframe. Anyone know how to do something like that. Here is the function i'd like to add that functionality to: add1.coef <- function(model,scope,test="F",p.value=1,order.by.p=FALSE) { num <- length(model$coefficients) add <- add1(model,scope,test=test) sub <-

piecewise linear approximation

I would like to choose the intervals so that the total deviation from my fitted lines is minimal. How do I best do this? Thanks! Ref Classes: bug with using '.self' within initialize methods?
Dear list, I'm wondering if the following error I'm getting is a small bug in the Reference Class paradigm or if it makes perfect sense. When you write an explicit initialize method for a Ref Class, can you then make use of '.self' WITHIN this initialize method just as you would once an object of the class has actually been initialized? Because it seems to me that you can not.

Bug in rnorm. (PR#1664)
There appears to be a mild bug, or at least a deficiency, in rnorm. The bug becomes apparent when one looks at extremes of the squares of the values generated by rnorm; rnorm is not generating quite enough extreme values. The R version that I am using is 1.4.1; I never got around to installing 1.5.0, and now since 1.5.1 is about to come out .... However, checking the 1.5.0 release notes

[PATCH v4 0/3] v2v: add --in-place mode
This series is an attempt to add a mode of virt-v2v operation where it leaves the config and disk image conversion, rollback on errors, registering with the destination hypervisor, etc. to a third-party toolset, and performs only tuning of the guest OS to run in the KVM-based hypervisor. combining datasets by row
Rusers, I am trying to append multiple .csv files of different dimensions (but # of columns are the same for all .csv files). I do have .csv files whose names are CA1.csv ~ CA100.csv. CA means california and 1 means the first file. So what I have been doing (after googling how to append by row multiple files) was: cleanup_data<-function(state,count) { out<-matrix() for (i in 1:

Delayed input posting
Dear all, I''d like to post input field a short delay after last key press (similar like a delay in autocomplete field). Is there anything already done somewhere, maybe some kind of a streched-down autocomplete field just for such purpose? If no, have anyone an idea how can I do that (as a not very knowledgeable in JavaScript)? Thanks for any help Janko

Bug or feature: using "ANY" as a generic field class (was: '[R] Is there a (virtual) class that all R objects inherit from?)
Dear list, I was wondering if you could help me out in clarifying something: Is it possible to use class "ANY" in slots/fields of formal classes if you a) do not want to restrict valid classes of that field and b) if you are making explicit use of class inheritance? It seems to work in simple scenarios but produces errors when class inheritance comes into play. So I was

Significant memory leak when using XML on Windows
Thanks a lot for answering. Before I get into it, please note that everything below bears the big capture "Thanks for trying to help me at all". 1) Yeah, those examples - quite hard to satisfy everyone's needs ;-) While the one side complained that my past examples regarding this issue were not informative enough, others didn't like the more elaborated version (as seems to be
