how to create a SEXP which could be accessed in embedded R
Hi all,
I am not familiar with writing R extensions. In a C program, I want to create a SEXP and access it in embedded R. How to let the embedded engine know there's a new vector? For example, after creating a SEXP, parsing 'ls()' in embedded R and then evaluating, STRSXP returned will contain the name of the SEXP. Any help would be appreciated.

Manipulating R lists in C
Hi,
I have been studying the R manual on lists but cannot seem to create a
simple R list in C - I keep on getting "'dimnames' applied to non-array"
whenever I attempt to assign names to the list elements:
Wanted output a list structure something like
[ type="Bid", price=2.0, volume=1000 ]
I can get up to a list of
[ "Bid2, 2.0, 1000 ]

Parallel R expression evaluations
Hi all,
I am using R-3.0.1 under Linux platform to embed R into my C++ code.
I am facing an error while executing more than 1 R-expressions parallelly.
I am executing round(X) and abs(X) parallelly on a set of 50 input rows
which resulted in segmentation fault after getting the following errors.
Error: unprotect_ptr: pointer not found

Crash in R using embedded.
Hi,
I'm new to R, and am trying to embed R into another application.
I'm calling gev.fit() from the ismev package, and it is crashing somewhere
inside it.
gdb is not catching it, and valgrind is not showing any memory corruption
issues.
I suspect it's memory corruption, because it doesn't crash in exactly the
same spot each time.
I'm running R 2.12.2 on a 64 bit linux (Ubuntu

Infrequent but steady NULL-pointer caused segfault in as.POSIXlt.POSIXct (R 3.4.4)
The R script I run daily for hours looks like this:
while (!finish) {
Sys.sleep(0.1)
time = as.integer(format(Sys.time(), "%H%M")) # always crash here
if (new.data.timestamp() <= time)
next
# ... do some jobs for about 2 minutes ...
gc()
}
Basically it waits for new data, which comes in every 10 minutes, and
do some jobs, then gc(), then loop again. It

Sys.getenv(): Error in substring(x, m + 1L) : invalid multibyte string at '<ff>' if an environment variable contains \xFF
Can we use the "bytes" encoding for such environment variables invalid
in the current locale? The following patch preserves CE_NATIVE for
strings valid in the current UTF-8 or multibyte locale (or
non-multibyte strings) but sets CE_BYTES for those that are invalid:

more powerful iconv
R community,
As you may know, R's iconv doesn't work well converting to and from
encodings that allow embedded nulls. For example
> iconv("foo", to="UTF-16")
Error in iconv("foo", to = "UTF-16") :
embedded nul in string: '\xff\xfef\0o\0o\0'
However, I don't believe embedded nulls are at issue here, but rather
that R's iconv

inconsistency in POSIXlt
The documentation for the POSIXlt class states '"POSIXlt" objects will
often have an attribute "tzone", a character vector of length 3 giving the
time zone name from the TZ environment variable and the names of the base
time zone and the alternate (daylight-saving) time zone. Sometimes this may
just be of length one, giving the time zone

wchar and wstring.
Hello all, I am writing an R interface to some C++ files which make use
of std::wstring classes for internationalization. Previously (when I
wanted to make R strings from C++ std::strings), I would do something
like this to construct a string in R from the results of the parse.
SET_VECTOR_ELT(vals, i++, mkString(header.GetHeader().c_str()));
However, now the call header.GetHeader().c_str()

mkChar can be interrupted
Hi,
As was discussed earlier in another thread and as documented in R-exts
.Call() should not be interruptible by Ctrl-C. However the following
code, which spends most of its time inside mkChar, turned out to be
interruptible on RH-7.3 R-1.8.1 gcc-2.96:
#include <Rinternals.h>
#include <R.h>
SEXP foo0(const SEXP nSexp) {
int i, n;
SEXP resSexp;
if (!isInteger(nSexp))

Parsing code with newlines
Dear List,
When I try to parse code containing newline characters with R_ParseVector, I
get a compilation error. How can I compile code that includes comments and
newlines?
I am using the following:
void* my_compile(char *code)
{
SEXP cmdSexp, cmdExpr = R_NilValue;
ParseStatus status;
PROTECT (cmdSexp = allocVector (STRSXP, 1));
SET_STRING_ELT (cmdSexp, 0, mkChar (code));
