Finding length of unique numbers in a vector
Hello there, would you please look into my codes? Here I have following:
> set.seed(100)
> samp <- sample(c(1,-1,0), 20, replace=T); samp
[1] 1 1 -1 1 -1 -1 0 -1 -1 1 -1 0 1 -1 0 0 1 -1 -1 0
Here I want to calculate the length of each unique number for above vector.
How can I do that?

Understanding R's "Environment" concept
Hi all, I am trying to understand the R's "environment" concept
however the underlying help files look quite technical to me. Can
experts here provide me some more intuitive ideas behind this concept
like, why it is there, what exactly it is doing in R's architecture
etc.?
I mainly need some non-technical intuitive explanation.

Seeking help in Package development
Dear all, I am a new user of R and currently trying hard to develop my
own package. Here I am following this tutorial

Here it says that (step 8): "open a ?command prompt? window, change
the directory to where your package is, type the command ?R CMD build

Problem in vignette packaging of Sweave in utils package
In ?Sweave, it refers to Sweave User Manual. In the doc folder of
utils package, I see "Sweave.pdf".
However, I can't find it from within R

Selecting subset of a given vector
Hi there, given a numeric vector, I can select numbers within a
specific range. However presently, I have something related but
different problem. Suppose I have a numeric vector. Now take an
arbitrary number. Goal to to chose a specific subset with a given
length, from that given vector, so that those chosen numbers are
centered around that given constant.

Problems building package vignette: Sweave requires multiple passes to build document.
Dear R-devel,
Question:
How can I get Sweave to recognize that the \thebibliography section
is already created and generate the vignette pdf with a single pass? Or
is there a way to let R CMD build know that Sweave needs to be run twice?
If (1) is not possible, any suggestions how to auto-generate a
crude generic bibtex .bib file from my existing document?

Sweave provides a misleading error when vignette engine not fully specified
Trying to Stangle / Sweave a file
$ cat vignette.Rnw
%\VignetteEngine{knitr}
\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
\end{document}
results in a misleading error message:
~/tmp$ R CMD Stangle vignette.Rnw
Error: Vignette engine package not specified
Execution halted
when what is missing is the full specification knitr::knitr; 'vignette engine
package and function not specified' ?

Creating a vignette which depends on a non-distributable file
Dear all,
I am writing a vignette that requires a file which I am not allowed to
distribute, but which the user can easily download manually. Moreover, it
is not possible to download this file automatically from R: downloading
requires a (free) registration that seems to work only through a browser.
(I'm talking here about the MSigDB from the Broad Institute,

Requests for vignette clarification (re: Writing R Extensions)
I apologize that these questions are stupid and literal.
I write to ask for clarification of comments in the R extensions

Non-vignette sweave file in package

I'm documenting an elaborate analysis as a private package. The package writes all required output to a database. I use a Sweave file to transform all the results from the database into a report.

Vignette using parallel's makeCluster function has trouble building on Windows 7

I've been working on a doParallel package to provide a foreach
parallel backend for the new parallel package, but I am having trouble
building the vignette. On my system, if I use the following minimal

cannot set the path to installed R packages when building a package vignette
Dear colleagues,
I am having issues trying to build a R package I recently wrote.
I am using R 2.14.0 and my package depends on another package called aod.
Running:
R CMD Sweave vignette.Rnw
is perfectly fine and the vignette compiles properly.
but when I use
R CMD build mypackage
to build the tar.gz I get the following error:

I'm having trouble with R CMD check of my quantreg package. All is well
until I get to:

Adding an Sweave Vignette to a package
I'm finalizing development of a package that will include a vignette.
Without the vignette, the package builds fine with no warnings and is
ready for distribution. Now, I am following the directions for
developing vignettes "Sweave, Part II: Package Vignettes" by Friedrich
Leisch.
