Well, actually only one [the other went to R-core alone]
Here it is :

plot math - segfault and "frac", "^" bug(s).. (PR#367)
This is in R versions 0.65, 0.90.0, and the current "pre-release",
both on Linux and Solaris
[with x11() , but most probably not device dependent].
The following shows it all :
plot(1,type='n')
## Frac doesn't shrink properly...

text(.7,1.2, expression( frac(7,4) == 1 * frac(3,4)), cex=3)

gathering denominator under frac
... or if I understand correctly, simply
expression(frac(additive ~ HCO[3]^"-",
true ~ HCO[3]^"-" )))

gathering denominator under frac
Hi friends - I'm plotting a ratio of bicarbonates i ggplot2 and
ylab(expression(paste(frac("additive BIC","true BIC")))) worked OK - but
now I have been asked to put the chemistry instead - so I wrote
?ylab(expression(paste(frac("additive",HCO[3]^"-","true",HCO[3]^"-"))))
- and frac saw that as additive = numerator and HCO3- =

plot math Q: How to "plot" hat(f') ?
In nonparametric regression and density estimation, something like
\hat{f'}(x) [LaTeX] is very natural.
In all S dialects,
hat(f')
is invalid syntax, and hence one cannot use something like
plot(1, main = expression(hat(f')))
I can say something like
plot(1, main = expression(widehat(paste(f, "'"))), cex.main = 3)
but that (the R code, not the plot result)

ugly in plotmath: frac(1, sqrt(...)) (PR#1101)
Sometimes (dependent on device and settings of 'cex' and 'lwd') the line
of a square root symbol plottet in the denominator of a fraction appears
to be in or above the line of the fraction.
Examples:
### Choose one of these:
# pdf("test.pdf", height=6, width=8)
# bmp("test.bmp", width=1100, height=800, pointsize=12)
# bitmap("test.tif",

Spam-Filter @stat.math.ethz.ch: was dead for about 15 hours
As many of you have probably realized, the spam filtering
at @stat.math.ethz.ch has been dead for since yesterday (09-25)
~16:50 till today ~08:30.
The sudden death may have been caused by unrelated installation
of some perl modules (spamassassin *is* running on perl) by our
IT staff.
We are very sorry for this event.
On the bright side: You have been able to get a glimpse of what

Writing Text into Plots
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello,
I have a simple question on the text() method in plots, e.g.:
text(3,4,adj=1,cex=1.0, expression(alpha == beta))
I know there exists a lot more like frac(), etc which could be used for
expression. But a help(frac) doesn't return any results - where do I
have to look for a documentation of possible text commands?
More in detail I'm

excuse the repeated mailings..
Our sys.admin fixed one important (NIS) problem and
accidentally simultaneously badly broke part of sendmail's functioning.
Unfortunately, this lasted ~ 40 minutes, and somehow sendmail
just "thought" it had to resend these messages several times (up to 8 x)
that came in during that 40 minutes' period.
Accept our (math.ethz.ch)'s apologies...

Feature request: add boxplot()s to current plot (given x[i])
(as the subject says)
It makes sense to add (say k) boxplots to a given plot,
using the given coordinate system.
Currently, the calling sequence
boxplot -> boxplot.default() -> bxp()
[modeled after S]
doesn't allow this, since bxp() explicitly
sets up the coordinate system.
One way would be to add an "add = TRUE" argument to boxplot(.) and bxp(.)
and then additionally

"formula plotting" -> substitute pecularity
This is something between a question and a bug report.
{sometimes one should first ask on R-help before sending to R-bugs....}
I wanted to plot (.) a formula with "..."
## Works :
e0 <- expression(T(x[1],...x[n])*", "*N[1] == 101) # works ok
plot(1, main = e0)
## Now, need substitute, to replace with value of variableThis works

Proposal for improved grid() [non-backward compatible]
Not many of you will use grid() widely, probably.
Also, two months ago, Paul Murrell said on R-help (topic "grid command")
PM>> i think the abline() solution is the best for doing what grid() won't.
PM>> like you say, grid() is just a simple front-end to abline().
grid() *is* too simple to be of practical use.
I propose the following which is of some practical

buglet in lm.influence() -- easy fix but... (PR#278)
(R 0.65.0 and earlier):
example(aov)
lm.influence(npk.aov)
gives
Error: NA/NaN/Inf in foreign function call (arg 6)
which comes from the lm.obj$coefficients
(the last 3-way interaction coefficient is indetermined and accordingly NA)
argument passed to .Fortran("lminfl",...) inside lm.influence.
The following is a simple correct patch

text( col=, cex=, font=) : doesn't allow more than length-1 arg (PR#287)
text(..., col = <..>) doesn't work if col has length more than one;
and the same for 'cex' and 'font'
A toy example, showing what is desired
plot(1);text(1.2, .8+(0:5)/16, LETTERS[6:1])
## works alright
plot(1);text(1.2, .8+(0:5)/16, LETTERS[6:1],col=1:6)

getenv() can't differentiate "defined but empty" and "undefined"
getenv(<varname>) currently returns ""
if the <varname> is undefined.
However, if <varname> is defined but empty,
getenv(<varname>) still only returns "".
I think this is quite unfortunate
but consistent with the prototype.

I'd propose to change the current behavior.
Something which should be pretty back compatible would
