Callbacks seems to get GCed.
Dear list, I am trying to implement a publish-subscribe mechanism in for an embedded R interpreter. But somehow my registered closures seem to get collected by the GC, even though I have protected them. I have reducted my code to the following sample. Sorry if it is a little verbose. The first couple of call of calls still work, but at some point one of the callbacks (callback1 in my

Running an expression 1MN times using embedded R
Hello, I'm evaluating this expression expression({ for(x in 1:5){ .Call('rh_status','x') }}) a million times from a program with R embedded in it. I have attached reproducible code that crashes with Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x00002b499ca40a6e in R_gc_internal (size_needed=0) at memory.c:1309 1309 FORWARD_NODE(R_PPStack[i]); Current language:

Looking for R_Home ...
This is my first question to this list and possibly a bit dumb, but anyway: Can anybody tell me, where, e.g. in the "unix" reference release a DEFINITION of char * R_Home can be found? Via Defn.h the "extern" DECLARATION is everywhere, but when I derived a somewhat other main() program my linker complained about the missing definition. Thomas Hoffmann.

Catching error messages (from nls(), e.g.)
I try to fit subsequentially different nonlinear models to data. Up to now I tried a first model and if I could not fit this one proceeded to another one. Now I would like to handle this automatically. But much to my chagrin I did not find a way for dealing with the error messages from nls(), e.g. getting them as "control information" or at least just returning from nls() without a

Support for compartment models / matrix exponential method
I try to fit reaction kinetic data to a given hypothetical model consisting of 3 ODEs. After some reading in Bates/Watts and the literature cited there (e.g. Jennrich/Bright) I looked in R for functions that support the use of the matrix exponential method. Until now I used for a similar (but simpler) problem the nls package and fitted against the the parameterized solution function. But this

IEEE_754 logic
Can anybody of the architects of R enlighten me about the reasoning behind the selection of the IEEE 754 mode for the building of R, please? Special points of interest are: 1. The selection seems to be based on the availability of isnan() and finite(). Is this a common way to test for IEEE 754? 2. The C9x draft introduces isfinite() instead of finite() (and as I see, some systems, e.g. the

Fatal error in SJava.
Dear r-helpers, I have been trying to invoke R from Java in a Windows 2000 computer (unfortunately). All my environment variables seem to be properly set, everything seems to be in order, but I obtaining a Fatal error: unable to open the base package error window. Also, the output of the invoker is Loading RInterpreter library R_HOME: R_HOME=C:/Programas/R RVersion: R_VERSION=1.6.1 whereas

"Executing" a string
In Matlab or Octave I can evaluate (evalf) the content of a string. In R I have looked around in the docs, but have not found a way to do something equivalent (which is possible, I think). Can anybody give me a pointer? ============================================================================= Thomas Hoffmann, Institut fuer Halbleiter- und Mikrosystemtechnik, TU Dresden E-mail: hoffmann at

Accumulating data row by row into a data frame
After the overwhelming response to my last question (many thanks!), I cannot resist to ask the next maybe trivial question: All sources I have looked into tell me about building data frames by reading from files or by putting vectors of data ("column by column") together. Now I would like to create an (empty) data frame with "headings" for every column (column titles) and then

Compiling R on HP-UX: "DP relative code"
I tried to build R-1.1.1 on my HP-UX 10.20 box. For this I installed gcc 2.95.2 and built g77 (version 2.95.2 19991024 (release)). Making R runs to the point, where shared libs are linked. There it reports: make[4]: Entering directory `/disk4/hoffmann/Work/rwork/src/library/ctest/src' gcc -I../../../../include -I/usr/local/include -fPIC -g -O2 -c

Package-level access to Rp->R_Quiet ?
I would like to simulate the effect of the command-line option --quiet from user-level scripts and startup code. From src/main/CommandLineArgs.c I learn that Rp->R_Quiet is set, and I see how that is used in main/main.c. I would use this from code in Rprofile.site. In other words, I want to be silent when --quiet is used (as e.g. by littler or Rscript) but not by R itself in normal

Rf_initEmbeddedR in Windows
Hi All My C++/linux program uses Rf_initEmbeddedR to start R and then calls some R functions. Now I try to port it to Windows. Give the fact that Rf_initEmbeddedR is missing in Windows, I try to use the implmentation in Rserve by Simon Urbanek. When I build in MS Visual Studio, I get the following linking error error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__putenv referenced in function

R on HP-UX, again: modreg.sl fails, 1 arith test fails
I want to report the progress of my attempts to get R running on HP-UX with gcc: Firstly, I could work around the PIC problem by leaving out all the lib stuff (I rebuilt gcc with --enable-share, but this (alone) did not help), e.g. the line gcc -shared -fPIC -o ctest.sl ansari.o fexact.o kendall.o ks.o prho.o swilk.o -L/usr/local/lib -lg2c -lm -L/lib/pa1.1 -L/usr/lib/pa1.1 -u main

creating custom I/O for R
Dear R developers, I am building an ActiveX Com wrapper for R. I have successfully implemented an Evaluate function using rproxy_impl.c and rtest.c as examples. The Com object as it stands at the moment is similar to Thomas Baier's automation server StatConnectorSrv.exe except that it does not use the Proxy. My goal it to include a couple of activeX controls in the library: One to provide a

Problem with initializiing R main loop under Windows (R.dll-version: 2.15.1)
Dear R-developers, even though I may not be the first one to encounter the problem described below, I would really appreciate some help or a link to a forum where this topic is being discussed. Probably I am simply misinformed on the usage of structRstart but see for youselve. I did check multiple forums and the whole internet on the topic without success. I am using the shared library version
