Re: Bug#275791: r-gnome: gnome library can not be read (PR#7276)
Dear R bug fixers, This came in early this morning. The R/Gnome configuration, and selection of libraries hat not changed one bit since I last built 1.9.1 -- but maybe something change in the Gmome/Glib/Gtk, or even x11, libraries? Would anyone know where RestoreAction is defined? The list of Debian packages on which r-gnome depends is below; as this is computed from ldd output I won't add

readline/history size (PR#211)
Full_Name: Russell Senior Version: 0.64.0 OS: linux-2.2.x Submission from: (NULL) (198.107.133.11) It appears that the GNU readline history size is limited to 50 entries. This is apparently occurring because R is not bothering to override the readline default value (from readline-4.0): ./history.c:59:#define DEFAULT_HISTORY_GROW_SIZE 50 It appears that it ought to be possible to override

Mac GUI and .Renviron
The .Renviron and .First functions do not seem to work the same way on a Mac OS 10.4 as on a Windows XP machine. From working in Windows I am used to creating a new directory for each data analysis project. In the new directory I place First, an .Renviron file consisting of the following text: R_HISTFILE="history.txt" R_HISTSIZE=1000000 Second, an .RData file containing a .First

I've been doing a number of similar measurements, and have come to the same conclusion. R is currently very conservative about memory usage, and this leads to unnecessarily poor performance on

default min-v/nsize parameters
Just wanted to start a discussion on whether R could ship with more appropriate GC parameters. Right now, loading the recommended package Matrix leads to: > library(Matrix) > gc() used (Mb) gc trigger (Mb) max used (Mb) Ncells 1076796 57.6 1368491 73.1 1198505 64.1 Vcells 1671329 12.8 2685683 20.5 1932418 14.8 Results may vary, but here R needed 64MB of N cells and 15MB

gnome support failure (libglade error on debian)
Hi, I'm running debian - upgraded fully to potato at the start of the freeze and added latest libgnome-dev before configuring. I tried compiling with gnome support with /usr/local/R/R-0.99.0/configure --with-gnome and got the following output: checking for gnome-config... /usr/bin/gnome-config checking if /usr/bin/gnome-config works... yes checking for orbit-config...

cat not evaluated before file.choose
As part of a larger function I have code similar to the reduced example below. The user is instructed to choose a file, which gets read using read.csv. In this example, I just have the name of the file print out. When I call this function with choosefile(), the file dialog box appears before the first cat line is printed. After I choose a file, both cat lines are printed. choosefile

savehistory directories and quitting R (PR#2038)
Thanks-- as Duncan Murdoch also noted, R_HISTFILE can be used to solve my problem, as below. BTW it's not easy to find out about R_HISTFILE in the help system or manuals, though, unless you already know it exists-- it only seems to be described under startup options, not things to do with history. However, Duncan's reply did hint at an inconsistency, in that savehistory() defaults to

Saving history across sessions
I have an environment variable `$R_HISTFILE` pointing to `/home/my.username/.RHistory` and the following code in my `.Rprofile` in my home directory: .Last <- function() { if (!any(commandArgs()=='--no-readline') && interactive()){ require(utils) try(savehistory(Sys.getenv("R_HISTFILE"))) } }

R's startup : .Rprofile & .Renviron -- info and RFC
[RFC = Request for Comments] { Yes, the documentation for .Renviron is really not there (but the FAQ...); the rest is in ?Startup } In R's Startup (on Unix only??) {unless --no-environ is specified} ~/.Renviron (if there) is read as an 'sh' script before R is called, then R looks ((for the site-wide Rprofile and then)) for .Rprofile in the current directory and then for

Command-line editing & history
Hi all, Are there any plans to add more functionality to command-line editing and history editing on the command line? In MATLAB (I know, comparisons are odious ...), you can type "p" and up-arrow on the command line and scroll through the recently entered commands beginning with "p". This is a very useful feature and something that I believe is not replicated in R. Please

.Fortran successful, R locks up.
Howdy, I am having a problem with a library compiled from some legacy fortran code. I can call the library, it runs as it should, returns a list, and gives a ">" prompt, but then locks up the R session. Functions typed in return nothing. ctrl-c results in a new prompt that is still locked up, and R overwhelms the processor. This happens on Mac, Windows, and Linux exactly the same. I

Help With Glade and C5 64-bit?
I have a user with C5.4 64-bit, fully updated, performed a yum install glade, it claimed to have installed everything, but we cannot get it to run. Neither whereis nor locate revleal an executable. We obtained the latest glade source from the project's web site, attempted to configure it, until it complained of needed dependencies, namely gtk+ (newer than what was on the system). So I got
