Trying to compile R on Unix
I have been trying to compile R. I downloaded R-1.0.1.tgz(I think;
the original tar file was untarred) and unpacked it with gzip. Now
all the R files are in a directory named R-1.0.1. The source files
(.c) are in R-1.0.1/src. There are files in R-1.0.1 named
'Makefile.in',
'Makeconf.in', and 'Makeconf'. I followed the instructions in INSTALL
by typing

problems compiling R-0.63.3 and 0.64.0 on alpha
I have problems compiling R (both 0.63.3 and 0.64.0) on a DEC-UX 4.0E alpha
(ev6) as illustrated in the enclosed log. I have tried adding the suggestions
given in PLATFORMS, without any significant improvement...
I have included the config.cache aswell.
Any suggestions on how to solve this ?
Thanx!
Andreas

patches for alpha
Recently I reviewed my RPM spec files for DU 4.0, and noticed that I
forgot to post some problems + patches:
1. ./configure fails to choose a PIC flag, I simply removed the
AC_MSG_ERROR and it works. There is actually no PIC flag for DEC cc (with
DU 4.0E)

[LLVMdev] Compilation error in 64 Bit PowerPC machine with Yellowdog Linux 6.1
Hi,
i am trying to compile llvm in a 64 Bit PowerPC machine with Yellowdog Linux 6.1 operating system. I could compile llvm but when I was trying to compile the llvm-gcc4.2 front end the compilation aborted with following error message:

[LLVMdev] RFC: Patch for Exceptions
Hi all,
This is a (very) rough patch to fix building LLVM with exceptions on
PPC Darwin. Basically, it puts the burden of adding the "--enable-eh"
on the specific target, which is where I think it should go.
If this is okay, then I can clean the patch up and submit it.

Samba - Windows XP permissions issue
: I have an XP client running office XP. This is sitting on an network along
with an IBM RS6000. The RS6000 has SAMBA installed and configured so that
the XP client can see the RS6000 as though it is a network device. The user
opens a template in Word 2002 which creates a mailmerge document using VBA.
The VBA code gets the name of the document and the location for both the
document and the data

Error using Rd2dvi on OSX
Hi,
I run R 2.5.1 on Mac OS 10.4.10 and fail to build a package manual.
Below is the transcript. The problem is a "pdflatex: command not found"
error but I think that I have a fully working latex install (installed
with iInstaller) as I use TeXShop with no problem.
Could someone help?

you should probably start by doing this: copy gcc/config/rs6000/llvm-rs6000.cpp
to (in the dragonegg source) src/ppc/Target.cpp.

rsync 2.5.5 compilation problems
Hi,
I compiled rsync on an HPUX 11i box, and got lots of errors about
redefining sendfile() and sendpath(). The compilation succeeded, but the
binary failed. I then took a binary I had compiled on an HP11.00 box, and
it worked fine.
I tried this with both gcc & the HP ansic compilers. The same results.
I am attaching a full transcript of the configure & compilation session.

[LLVMdev] Problems building llvm-gcc-4.2 on ppc32, OS X 10.4.10
Hi, I'm guessing that no one has tried this exact combination yet.
I'm trying to build the gcc4.2 front end with current LLVM SVN
on a G4 Powerbook running 10.4.10.
I started with this:
../gcc4.2-trunk/configure
--prefix=$HOME/Documents/hpcl/LLVM/llvm-gcc-4-2/install
--enable-llvm=$HOME/Documents/hpcl/LLVM/llvm-svn-obj/
--with-gmp=$HOME/Documents/hpcl/LLVM/llvm-gcc-4-2/libdeps

MS Word from samba share
A few days ago I send a message titled "A samba question or a mutt question".
I got a few repies but they suggested wide work-arounds to the problem. I
have done some more work and it is clear it is not anything to do with
the mail side of what I was trying. The question or problem I have is
essentially this:-
How do you double click on a MS Word icon to bring the document into

unresolved symbols in growth and repeated libraries
I am having trouble using Jim Lindsey's libraries because of unresolved
symbols. I am currently using R 0.65.0, but had this problem in earlier
releases as well. I have a RedHat 6.0 Linux on i386 and use egcs
(upgraded to that distributed with rawhide, after first failures with
the libraries):

Equations as arguments to functions
I am trying to pass an equation as an arguement to a function, which seems
pretty straightforward given lazy evaluation.
I constructed the following little test to make sure I sort of knew what I
was doing:
go <- function(X,eq) { C <<- X*2; d <<- eq}
a _ rnorm(100)
go(10,eq=a[.5*length(a)]+C+1)
> C
[1] 20
> d
[1] 21.10551
> a[.5*length(a)]
[1] 0.1055086
