Hello, happy new year to all. The new Year gave me a new computer with Win98 and promptly I installed R on it. I created a directory R, with subdirectories gcc, perl, bin, helpwrk and rw1040. I got rw1040 from BDR place, the rest were gotter from the internet in the last week of the year, i.e. they are the newest versions. I modified autoexec.bat to put gcc\bin, perl\bin, etc in the path. I put the

unexpected behavior of unzip with list=T and unzip=/usr/bin/unzip
Hello, I encountered some unexpected behavior of unzip when using info-zip's unzip instead of R's internal program. Specifically, unzip("file.zip", list=TRUE, unzip=/usr/bin/unzip) produces incorrect output if the zip archive has filenames with spaces, and results in an error if the zip archive includes an archive comment or file comments. Here is some code to reproduce along

How can I access a ZIP file that's over 2Gb?
I have a zip file. It is over 2Gb in size: -rw-r--r-- 1 sweh sweh 2383956582 Mar 13 13:44 test.zip The standard "unzip" program barfs: % unzip -l test.zip Archive: test.zip End-of-central-directory signature not found. Installing packages from ZIP files
I have R 1.9.0 running under Solaris 2.9 ona SunBlade 100, and am very happy with it. I heard about the stuff at www.rmetrics.org and thought it might be worth looking at. However, what I found there is a bunch of .zip files. The entry page suggests that there is some way to install packages from .zip files in R, but I have searched all the documentation I have and cannot find it. _Is_ there

Small modification of zip.file.extract in utils?
Dear list, I needed to extract a zip-archive, and found zip.file.extract in utils. My only problem was the use of tempdir(), since I wanted to permanently extract the archive at a fixed location for later use. My own fix was simple, adding an extra parameter zipdir (without default), and within the function change tmpd <- tempdir() to tmpd = ifelse(missing(zipdir),tempdir(),zipdir) This

zip.file.extract
Hello everyone, Can anyone give me some hint/suggestion for unzipping a file in R? The help file for "zip.file.extract" function seems to be difficult to understand. For example, the name of my zip file is "refGene.txt.gz", which is located in "C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\test1". I would like to unzip this file to the same directory. Here's

zlib location
I'm trying to build the 1.4.0 development version of R for Windows. I'll be posting problems as they arise, until I give up (or succeed), or someone asks me to stop. 1. I don't have zlib, the compression library. The source file gnuwin32/unzip/WHERE says to get it from ftp://ftp.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/zlib/zlib.html; that web site says it has been closed and redirects me to

Dear R users, My situation: (1) I have limited workspace for my work harddisk (about 10 GiB). (2) I have a lot of data files in R workspace (*.RData) which most of them > 200 MiB. For some reason I zip some of them, for instance "filename.RData (250 MiB)" to "filename.zip (3MiB)". In this work I have a lot of more space of my harddisk. Normally, If I want to use

R-1.7.0: Rproxy.dll loadlibrary/freelibrary error (PR#2914)

R-1.6.2 does NOT give this error. This seems to be a memory management error, that might be linked to the huge leakage difference between R-1.7.0 and R-1.6.2

Can one write a zip file from R? I want to create a file with a name like "dat.zip", being a zip file containing "dat.csv". I can create "dat.csv", then call "system('zip -r9 dat.zip dat.csv')". Is there a better way? I can use "gzfile" to write a gz file, but I don't know how to give that a structure that would

Cannot make 3 different R installations for 3 different valgrind-instrumentation levels
"R Installation and Administration", section 2.5 "Sub-architectures" describes calling specific builds of R using the call "R --arch=name". I am trying to build and install three versions of R-2.9.1, each configured with a different valgrind-instrumentation level ("Writing R Extensions", section 4.3.2 "Using valgrind"). My goal is to be able to
