OT: hardware, IBM 3650 M2 won't power on
Just for grins, pull off the cover and look at the electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard.
Look for ones with the tops pushed up instead of being flat. This can cause all sorts of odd behavior. Often the machine with a blown capacitor will continue to run till it is powered off. Mostly I see this on Dell machines but have seen it on other machines as well. They are pretty easy to

Do I need a ring capacitor to use TDM400P cards in UK
Hello
I have played about with a TDM400 card and plugged in some standard analog phones. I am using the card in FXS mode - for analog extensions. I did notice that one of my phones did not ring and I wondered why. I later read in Paul Mahler's book VoIP Telephony with Asterisk that in his section on the TDM400 on page 127 he says "In the UK, you may need an adapter that provides a

Reg errors? Other anomalies? Check those capacitors!
Three months ago, I was experiencing all sorts of issues with my Asterisk
box maintaining a connection to multiple trunks, etc. I also experienced
various timing issues as well. In addition, Asterisk would sometimes take
almost a minute to fully load and register its SIP and IAX trunks.
Puzzled, I recompiled several times. No result. I checked my hardware.
Didn't find anything. However, I did

MGE Ellipse Premium 1200 USB cable only works if plugged after boot
I have an MGE Ellipse Premium 1200 that I connected to my server using
its USB cable. Nut seems to be working fine. I've done a power down
test and it worked and came back up when the UPS had power again. I'm
using the newhidups driver and the USB cable.
The problem I'm having is that if I boot with the cable connected
newhidups says it can't find the UPS. If I unplug and plug in

JBOD / ZFS / Flash backed
Yes the flash-backed RAID cards use a super-capacitor to backup the flash
cache. You have a choice of flash module sizes to include on the card.
The card supports RAID modes as well as JBOD.
I do not know if Gluster can make use of battery-backed flash-based Cache
when the disks are presented by the RAID card in JBOD. The Hardware
vendor asked "Do you know if Gluster makes use of

fxstest cant ring phone, but asterisk can !
Hi all,
I cant ring my phone with fxstest, but all else works (playing tones,
stats , regdump).
My ring voltage is -53.7680 volts as reported by stats
option to fxstest.
However, I can ring my phone with Asterisk !!!
With fxstest, I just hear a click if I am off hook,
and ask it to ring my phone.
I am in the UK, and have a ring capacitor installed
to the fxs port.
Even without that,

testing shutdown: pc not restarting; and "ups unavailable" messages

Excellent. And in my case (default) it says
SHUTDOWNCMD "/sbin/shutdown -h +0"
I have tried that command and, as expected, it has shut down the pc. Then I have disconnected the power cord for one minute and plugged it back in,

JBOD / ZFS / Flash backed
Thanks,
The 3 servers are new Lenovo units with redundant PS backed by two huge UPS
units (on for each bank of power supplies). I think the chances of losing
two nodes is incredibly slim, and in that case a Disaster Recovery from
offsite backups would be reasonable.
My requirements are about 2TB, highly available (so that I can reboot one
of the 3 servers without taking down services).

fxsmod cable length limit
Is there a cable length limit to use with a fxsmod (TDM400B) ?
I noticed that if I use a very long cable 148 feet, I can hear some
parasite : I hear the radio ! If I use a short cable, there is no
problem...
Thanks for help,

ZFS error handling - suggestion
Howdy,
I have at several times had issues with consumer grade PC hardware and ZFS not getting along. The problem is not the disks but the fact I dont have ECC and end to end checking on the datapath. What is happening is that random memory errors and bit flips are written out to disk and when read back again ZFS reports it as a checksum failure:

state: ONLINE

Keep lossing wireless - ipw3945
Sunday I updated my kernel to 128.1.16 (I had to reboot so it was time
to update). No problems with wireless in my home.
Monday I started traveling to IEEE 802 plenary, and I have lost my
wireless numerous times needing to reboot.
The symptom is the radio light goes off. Back before the kernel update,
this would happen sometimes at home while on battery, and I would just
press the

Fwd: Re: Problems suse 9.3, ellipse premium 500
Hi,
I have used /etc/init.d/rclevel.d/S12ups script renaming it with S22ups and
adding at the top:
chown root:nobody /proc/bus/usb/002/002
chmod 660 /proc/bus/usb/002/002
It's a patch but works.
Best regards.

Calibrating the Battery on an MGE Ellipse Premium 1200
My new MGE Ellipse Premium 1200 is now working fine. I've tested
pulling the plug and the computer shuts down properly and comes back
up when I replug. The only strange behaviour is that when I put the
power back on the battery shows as being at 86%. If it was at 86% it
should have lasted longer. Is there any calibration step I can do? The
only commands the ups seems to support are:

Audiotel - Premium, call proceeding ?
Hi,
here in Italy we have a special kind of phone services that are named
"audiotel", those services are also known as "premium".
Audiotel services are billed in a different way from normal phone
calls and the revenue is shared between the answering company and the
telco, they are used to give weather information, chat party lines and
so on.
Inbound lines are coming over
