new data frame for loop
I have a data frame with three columns, one coded as a factor. I would like
to separate my data out into separate data frames according to the factor
level. Below is a simple example to illustrate. I can get R to return the
data in the correct format but cannot work out how to get separate data
frames. I am a newcommer to programming in R so am not sure what I am
missing! Thanks, Emily

imaging and contouring
Dear R'Helpers and Colleagues,
I have looked in the documentation, asked to some colleagues in the
lab, but was unable to solve the following difficulty.
I am running R on a iMac G5 with OS 10.4.
The file below (73 rows x 144 col) shows the values of a climatic
index on the globe with a grid of 2,5 ? x 2,5 ? (NA = no value):

how to read hdf files under R?
Hi!
I am trying to install in my R environment the rhdf5 package and
library but it seems to have vanished from either the CRAN or
BioConductors sites.
Can you tell me where it would be possible to find it or any R
library (or function) able to read hdf files?
Sincerely,

range
I'm just beginning with R, and i've got a little problem, I would like
to have my own xrange and yrange on the graph when I plot a matrix, and
not the one R creates automatically.
Thank you for your help

extremely slow network connection
Dear all,
on a brand new DELL computer CentOS 5.1 installs well, but the
internet connection is extremely slow (8 kB/s, indeed kiloBytes !).
Did anyone find a solution to that problem ? It might be more
DELL specific than CentOS specific.
Yours,
Peter

[LLVMdev] Cross compiler
Dear All,
I am a newcommer. Terribly sorry for the basic questions whose answers may be out there somewhere.
My questions are the followings:
-With the front end clang, what can be the possible values for the -target parameter? Can I have a full list of them?
-How can I create a (static) library from the object files as with the command "ar" in linux ? I wonder whether I should use

the graph gallery strikes back
Hello useRs and helpRs,
Some time ago, in a gallaxy far away (here is the thread :
http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/46532.html ) we
discussed about a graph gallery showing the power of R in that domain. I
did some work around that, and there is a (pretty advanced) draft here :
http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/displayGallery.php
For instance, there are some of my graphs,

transparency of one layer in multiple wireframe plot
Sorry sending this again - is anyone familiar with multiple transparent wireframe plots?
I already checked the ?wireframe, but with no examples and as newcommer its hard to find out a correct code.
If we set drape=F in the example:
g <- expand.grid(x = 1:10, y = 5:15, gr = 1:2)
g$z <- log((g$x^g$g + g$y^2) * g$gr)
wireframe(z ~ x * y, data = g, groups = gr,

permutations of a binary matrix with fixed margins
J?r?me,
As a first attempt, how about the function below. It works (or not) by
randomly sorting the rows and columns, then searching the table for
"squares" with the corners = matrix(c(1,0,0,1),ncol=2) and subtracting them
from 1 to give matrix(c(0,1,1,0),ncol=2) (and vice versa). Randomized
matrices can be produced as a chain where each permutation is seeded with
the previous one.

how to print a data.frame without row.names
Dear All,
is there a simple way to print a data.frame without its row.names?
example:
datum <- as.Date(c("2004-01-01", "2004-01-06", "2004-04-12"))
content <- c('Neujahr', 'Hl 3 K.', 'Ostern')
df1 <- data.frame(datum, content)
print(df1)
datum content

2 2004-01-06 Hl 3 K.

bug using matplot (PR#10676)
Full_Name: Anne CORI
Version: 2.6.1
OS: windows
Submission from: (NULL) (134.157.220.19)
let A be a mtrix with n lines and p columns, p>36 ;
matplot(A) will only draw the plot of the first 36 columns of A.
This is due to a bug in the definition of pch in the function :
pch <- c(paste(c(1:9, 0)), letters)[1:k]
should be replaced by
pch <- c(paste(c(1:9, 0)), letters)
I hope this

Help in Overlaying of 2 Plots on the same Device.
I'm trying to overlay a density plot on a previously plotted histogram. However, i need to use the same axis as of the 1st(histogram) plot to plot the second. My second plot is creating its own axis and causing my plot to extend the entire histogram instead of getting a subplot on a portion of the histogram. I tried 'fig' and 'new' parameters with no luck.
Thanks in advance.
