NTP traffic blocked
I have multiple VM's on the same KVM host. One of the VM's is running NTP.
All VM's can reach eachother, no firewall in between. But the problem is,
the VM's cannot communicate over port 123/udp to the NTP VM.
Network: 172.24.100.0/22
KVM: 172.24.101.50
VM ntp: 172.24.102.10
VM foo: 172.24.102.20

NTP Service Running on Local Host does not Sync System Time
Hi List
I have ntp running as a service on a PC, with the expectation that it
would keep time in synch to my ntp server.
However, while I can manually update the time using "ntpdate -u ...",
I find that if I manually force the wrong time, the ntpd service does
not automatically re-synch the system time with the ntp server:

ntp revisited (so what to do ?)
OK,
So what you people say is :
1. Run "ntpdate" during startup only once
2. After that, keep time with ntpd
Right ?

NTP and hardware clock
Hi,
I had the following problem today. Because of a misconfigured
network switch one system suddenly didn't have any network.
After a reboot (with the network still unavailable) NTPD refused to start.
Most likely because the initial ntpdate failed to work. I find this
troubling, because when the network was restored, NTPD could have resumed
working (like I'd expect from a true

ntp server
I thought I'd play with making my system an ntp server.
I did the "service ntpd start" it started OK.
on my laptop I did "ntpdate IP" and it says no server for sync found.
My firewall has open ntp:udp
What did I miss?
Thanks,
Jerry

NTP server
I have a Centos 5 64-bit server that has ntp service enabled. Windows XP
with SP2 cannot properly sync to it for time, but can communicate with it
via samba, ssh, and anything else. I also disabled the Windows
Firewall. The C5 system does not have any firewall enabled.
Other C5 workstations can successfully sync to it via ntpdate.
What else could cause the XP machine to not be able to

dovecot and ntp: Fatal: Time just moved backwards
Hallo,
I am running dovecot on a PC (a workstation) to have a mail client
independent storage for my mails. Now I would like to have the system
clock set correctly by using ntpd or ntpdate (using debian/sid).
The problem is, that the PC is not online at boot time, but is set
online on demand manually using "pon" to start the pppd later. So ntpd
cannot sync the time on boot time

NTP strangeness...
In our network we found some client with clock differences.
Some machine have effectively some troubles, eg have NO 'Windows Time'
service defined, probably some glitches happened when moving from our
old NT-like domain.
Anyway, catching for that, we have found some other strangeness.
Windows time service run:
C:\Users\gaio>sc query w32time
NOME_SERVIZIO: w32time

Fwd: ntp help
Hello
I am trying to sync via NTP locally (since I have no Internet access).
None of the NTP stuff I read on the net seems to work right. I mean it works fine setting up a client going to something like 0.pool.ntp.org but when I want to make my LInux box a server, and I do an ntpdate to it from another machine,
it says no suitable server found. I have tried every possible combination of

Centos 7 and ntp
I've curious about where and how Centos 7 gets its ntp configuration from.
When I installed the operating system, I went through this page and told it to use "network time", as shown:
http://media.if-not-true-then-false.com/2014/07/06-centos-7-date-and-time-748x560.png
I just discovered that i don't actually have ntp installed on this computer, though the rpm does exist when I

RE: NTP time issues DomU''s
I think it''s perfect the way it is.
Run NTP in dom0, all the domU''s then have synchronized time.
I can still set timezones on all of these boxes independantly.
Timezone has nothing to do with NTP synchronization.

ntpdate issues?
Hi, I''m trying to run ntpdate from domain zero and getting
weird results. This used to work (prior to using xen). Is
this related to xen at all or an entirely unrelated issue?
Queries seem to work:
# ntpdate -q time-b.nist.gov
Looking for host time-b.nist.gov and service ntp
host found : time-b.nist.gov

Chrony vd NTP
I have read:
http://thegeekdiary.com/centos-rhel-7-chrony-vs-ntp-differences-between-ntpd-and-chronyd/
My server is up all the time and will serve time to internal systems
(via DHCP options).
Caveat is that my server is an armv7 (Cubieboard2) which does not have
an RTC (no battery). So whenever the system boots, the time is ZERO
(Dec 31, 1969 or some such).
Chrony fixes this really fast;

Questions about time synchronisation in a multi-DC Samba environment
Hi All,
I am currently running a setup with a main DC ad1, that has ntpd
installed and is currently configured to retrieve the time from the UK
NTP time pool. I also have a second backup AD DC, ad2, on which I have
not installed ntpd but I have installed ntpdate. My current
understanding is that the setup I have just described is in-line with
the recommended best practices outlined in the

Why the command 'service ntpd stop' cause the time reversed?
Hi guys,
Thanks for your reply.
I originally used the following command to synchronize time:
ntpdate 192.168.0.191
but got the error: ntpdate[16715]: the NTP socket is in use, exiting
So i used the way of stopping ntpd service.
Now I have known that using command "ntpdate -u 192.168.0.191" can solve the above error, and also know using ntpdate command is an improper way, i.e. should use

ntpdate odd behavior
I noticed this morning that my ntp time was not correct on machines.
So I manually ran "ntpdate time.apple.com" on my clients, I got
7 May 08:46:43 ntpdate[10550]: no server suitable for synchronization found
then I ran "ntpdate -d time.apple.com" and it worked .

Hi,
the date jumps within 30 seconds to a wrong value. ntp service is
stopped at the beginning.
Whereas hwclock seems more precise.
