plot.times error -- missing or illegal tck parameter (PR#601)
There seems no default setting for tck, causing problems for plot.times() > library(chron) > dts <- dates(c("02/27/92", "02/27/92", "01/14/92", + "02/28/92", "02/01/92")) > y<-chron(dts,out.format=c("dmy","h:m:s")) > y [1] 270292 270292 140192 280292 010292 > plot(y,1:5) Error in axis(n, at =

R-beta: Using par(tck=,xaxs=)
I found that par(tck=xx) was ignored and par(xaxs="s") gave an error in v0.61. I've made the following quick hacks in the code to get these to function. Please let me know if I'm setting myself up for trouble and... Lattice graphics: minor tick marks and panel.axis() question(s)
Hello, I have been a long-time Traditional graphics user and now moving to try Lattice graphics. At the moment I cannot figure out how to place minor tick marks in a figure made with Lattice's xyplot(). In Traditional graphics, after calling plot() I would make two calls to axis(). >From the manuals and help documentation I learned that 'scales' takes multiple 'at'

persp(); help with 'tck' option
Hi All, I'm using 'tck' option to *reduce* the length of tick marks but it is not working, can anyone please tell me where I'm going wrong... require(graphics) require(grDevices) x <- seq(-10, 10, length= 30) y <- x f <- function(x,y) { r <- sqrt(x^2+y^2); 10 * sin(r)/r } z <- outer(x, y, f) z[is.na(z)] <- 1 # 'bg' works but 'tck' is not showing

R-beta: Functionality of tck=1, and mtext()
In the version of R that I am running I have found two advertised features that don't appear to work correctly: Version 0.61.0 Alpha (December 21, 1997) (installed using r-base-0.61.0-2.i386.rpm) 1. mtext adj parameter is seriously offset to the right. For example: > par(oma=c(0,0,3,0)) > mtext("Try this", side=3, outer=T) # nothing is observed on x11 > mtext("Now

Bug in axis(...,tcl=0)?
Hi, first of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you "answer guys" for giving such detailed answers. I think I've learned about as much from all these answers as from the different S/R documents I've read so far. Anyway, I ran into a incompatability between S and R, that is, R does not know the "ticks=T/F" argument to functions like axis and

xyplot tick marks and line thickness
Hello, A made a xyplot using the lattice library in R (latest version). The publisher of our paper has requested: 1. all tick marks should point inwards instead of outwards. 2. All lines should be thicker (lines, axes, boxes, etc. Everything). Lines is easy...I used: lwd=1.5 but what about the lines of the axes, and the lines that build up the plot itself?....? Any

2.4.0 and lattice 0.14-9: Changed behaviour of scales-argumenttck
Dear list, I have observed a change in the behaviour of the scales-argument tck of xyplot() after having installed R 2.4.0 (for version info see below). The help page of xyplot() says about the scales-argument tck: 'tck' numeric to control length of tick marks. Can be a vector of length 2, to control left/bottom and right/top separately. But if I issue xyplot( y ~ x, scales=

[lattice] Increase distance between tick labels and ticks in wireframe plot ("pad")
Hello, I try to increase the distance between tick labels and ticks in a lattice wireframe plot. Here's a minimal example: ## Minimal example x <- y <- z <- c(1,2,3) df <- data.frame(x, y, z) wireframe(z ~ x*y, df, scales = list(arrows = FALSE, col = "black", font = 1, tck=0.6)) I tried the axis.components option

`mgp[1:3]' are of differing sign (PR#14130)
Full_Name: Cornell Gonschior Version: 2.10.0 OS: Linux Submission from: (NULL) (212.201.28.40) Hi, in the introduction to R, you can find the following sentence in the par() chapter: "Use tck=0.01 and mgp=c(1,-1.5,0) for internal tick marks." I thought that's nice, because I wanted to have tick marks and tick labels inside and the axis title outside. But: > plot(z, las=1,

How to generate 'minor' ticks in lattice (qqmath)
Dear group, I tried to generate labels for every second tick in lattice (qqmath). Version: 0.14-16 Date: 2006/12/01 R version 2.4.1 (2006-12-18) An example: library(lattice) numy=100 y=runif(numy,min=0,max=1) sig=0.05 numsig=length(which(y<sig)) tck.no=11 # number of ticks tcks=1:tck.no labl=as.character(0.1*tcks-0.1) # label for all ticks labl[seq(2,tck.no-1,2)]="" # delete

Axes Labels on the Right side of lattice panel
Hello, My plot has two curves on different scales. To create the scale on the extreme right hand side of a panel I followed the example in panel.axis (in this example, the tick marks are at the same location and labels are the same too) axis=function(side, ... ) { ylim <- current.panel.limits()$ylim if(side=="left"){

Graphical parameters in perspective plot
Hello, I've a problem for setting graphical parameters in perspective plot (function persp). I wonder if it's possible to add some text (function text) on an existing persp plot USING the axis coordinates. In fact I want to add some text on a persp plot according to x coordinates. I've tried to use text(xcoord,ycoord, label="toto") but the toto text doesn't appear at

How to hide tick lines behind the "box-and-whisker" 's in a boxplot
Dear R people, I wonder how to hide tick lines behind other figures in a plot, e.g. in a boxplot. # Sample code: x<- c(rep(4,50),rep(5,20),rep(6,50),rnorm(20,5,1)) boxplot(x) axis(2,tck=1,col.ticks='grey',lty=5 ) # end of sample code The tick lines is put on top of the box-plot, but I would like to put these lines behind the box and whiskers.. Lattice: place ticks only on y-axis
I am using lattice for a bar plot, having a little trouble removing ticks, tick labels from x-axis, but keeping them on the y-axis. I looked around quite a bit (http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e7/help/09/06/1733.html, help pages, etc), tried variations of "scales = list(alternating = c(0,0)", "scales = list(alternating = c(0,0), tck = c(0,0))" and others, couldn't quite

xyplot: distance between axis and axis-label gets wrong
Hi! I just started reading the wonderful Lattice book and I finally found a quite elegant solution for nicer log-ticks. However, there are some problems with the spacing between the axis label and the axis tick marks. It seems that lattice estimates the space wich gets used by the labels before it calls the yscale.components function. However, this function can change what is supposed to be

Changing Tick Mark Values for lattice / wireframe
How can I change the tick mark values in lattice, specifically wireframe? I have a 11*46 matrix of values that I am plotting using wireframe. Unfortunely, the values range from 0.1-1.1 and 0.5-5. Using the code below the tick marks have are (2,4,6,8,10) and (10,20,30,40). Thanks in advance. graphic5 <- wireframe(output.matrix, shade= TRUE, scales = list(arrows = FALSE, cex=.6,
