NEW: Sociolects in R
The R translation teams have done a great job in making R usable for people who do not have English as their mother tongue. However, even within English speaking countries, there are groups which have trouble with the language, and it may be valuable to support the Sociolects of these groups too. Thanks to a generous contribution from Lars Polifo, these features will be made available in an

Anova - adjusted or sequential sums of squares?
Hi I am performing an analysis of variance with two factors, each with two levels. I have differing numbers of observations in each of the four combinations, but all four combinations *are* present (2 of the factor combinations have 3 observations, 1 has 4 and 1 has 5) I have used both anova(aov(...)) and anova(lm(...)) in R and it gave the same result - as expected. I then plugged this into

Newbie with R
Hello, I would like to test some learning algorithms (C5.0, or C4.5) using decision trees or neural network. I didn't find anything in the R documentation for functions to apply on datasets (well, English is not my mother tongue and I have some problems to understand some functions descriptions). Does anybody know where I can find anything about that ? Thank you very much, Thomas

Statistical formulas
Hello! I hope, i'm doing right, writing here. I have a question about the R statistical formulas: were can I look, what are they? E. g. I'd like to know which exactly mathematical formula is used in Wilcoxon test, and others. Is there somewhere on the Internet information about that? Thanks a lot! Ilya. PS Sorry for any mistakes in my English, it is not my mother-tongue.

RAID1 building via hardware
Hi all, I?m trying to create a RAID1 on a machine. I?ve already configurated BIOS (mother board, Intel, S500VSA SATA) so as to build RAID1 via hardware. However on CentOS Installer, when I reach "disk setup" screen, it shows up 2 devices (/dev/sda and /dev/sdb). Is this right (both devices being showed)? How should I proceed on this moment? If I create the

Icon or CJK fonts in MENU TITLE, is that possible in the future ?
First I would like to say thank you to HPA for providing some really nice features in recently syslinux version. About new functions, actually I have another radical idea, since we are in Asia, most of the users here they would like to see some local fonts for the syslinux/pxelinux menu. I am wondering is that possible, in the future, the syslinux/pxelinux menu can support CJK fonts or icon ?

Phrase "package writer" in R-exts
In a conversation with a programmer new to writing R packages, he mentioned that he was very confused by phrase "package writer" used in the document, and said that he "[was] literally imagining some sort of function that writes something related to packages". I can see his point: not only is it confusing, but I think it's also bad English (one wouldn't say "the

Multiple SSL certificates with dovecot.
Hello all, By advance, I hope you'll excuse my probably not perfect English, which is not my mother tongue. I have always appreciated dovecot for this simplicity to setup and lightweight, but today, after many installations, I cannot find how to setup dovecot for my configuration. - I use only IMAPS to retrieve the mails. - I manage two domain names - I use CA-Cert certificates So,the

Tukey multiple comparisons
I am embarrassed to have to ask this but can anyone tell me of a Tukey multiple comparisons procedure available for R? I have looked through the search page, through the FAQ, and in the index of V&R (1999), and I still can't find such a thing. I see there is a ptukey function and a qtukey function but that is as far as I got. Do I need to roll my own? -- Douglas Bates

PXELINUX Debugging Output
I am sending a patch that makes the debugging output of PXELINUX slightly more concise, without (intentionally) affecting its completeness at all. Additionally, I am proposing that the debugging output of PXELINUX -- specifically the messages that appear after the copyright statement, but before the menu is loaded -- only be shown in response to keyboard input (such as holding Shift or Alt, or

Not booting without keyboad.
Hi, I'm running CentOS 3 on a Dell celeron 500/256 MB. It won't boot without a keyboard and that is a problem for me. I know it is not a perfect setup, but I'd like to have it boot w/o a keyboard. The Bios doesn't seem to care too much about the fact that no keyboard is plugged in, as it loads Grub and starts booting the kernel. It hangs, usually around Total HugeTLB memory

looking for Prof Bates' file
Hello I'm reading up on fitting truncated Weibull distribution to data. There are posts in 2002 that point to this presentation by Prof Bates: http://www.stat.wisc.edu/~bates/JSM2001.pdf but now the file is not there. I can't find it anywhere else, Google doesn't have a cached copy for it. Could someone please give me a copy of this file, if they have it? Thanks and regards,
