A little bit of sugar
Hi
Do a search on ''wxruby'' and you''ll see that people''s main gripes are 1)
stability 2) development progress 3) documentation and 4) syntax.
We''re making great progress on 1-3 so thought it seemed like a good time
to start looking at 4). So here''s announcing a first release of WxSugar.
It can be downloaded via gems (gem install wx_sugar)

Adding more sugar to wxSugar
Hi all,
New wxRuby event handling offers the choice between using blocks or
methods seamlessly and easily. This is great respectively for simple
app and more complex app.
Nevertheless, currently the creation of an application, a frame, or a
dialog is very tedious for simple app :
- you need to create a subclass of Wx::App, Wx::Frame ...
- you need to put the initialization code in the initialize

Bug in TextCtrl constructor
Howdy,
I''ve uncovered a bug in the constructor for TextCtrl (originally
uncovered while using WxSugar but it appears to apply to WxRuby itself
as well). Here''s the output from irb:

CalendarCtrl.date not working?
I finally got my CheckListBoxes under control (thanks Alex& Phil) and
have moved on to tackling the CalendatCtrl. This one seemed pretty easy
when I was reading through the documentation but I cannot retrieve the
selected date. I have the following code:
def initialize...
...
@calendar = panel.add(Wx::CalendarCtrl[])
panel.add(Wx::Button[:label => ''test'']) do

wxruby2-preview Gauge and wx-sugar with SplitterWindow
First of all, just wanted to say big thanks for all the great work on
wxruby2 .. I''ve been a user of 0.6 for a long time and its proved very
useful over the years. It''s great to finally have a multi-platform, gem
installable ui toolkit that doesn''t suck!
Secondly, thanks also for wx-sugar. I was drowning in sizers and started
to write my own layout library ... but

Filling Wx::ListCtrl with contents
Hi all,
I''ve got a question concerning ListCtrl_virtual of wxRuby since I see no
way filling the list with dynamic contents. I''m new to Ruby so I maybe
have to apologise for my request.
The problem is, that I have to define the on_get_item_text(item, col)
function. There I would like to use the item and col variables to read
data from a two-dimensional array. My very problem

Re: Test driving WxRuby2 apps
Apologies, I think the gem attachment may have been stripped from my
original mail, so I''ve uploaded it to rubyforge under a new ''wxextra''s
project:

Sizer question
First, Thank you, thank you, thank you for those who put wxRuby
together. I''m thrilled to be able to write GUI code in Ruby!
I''m hitting some confusion about how Sizers work. I''ve read the
tutorials and the section in the wxWidgets book but I still can''t
seem to figure this out.
Here''s an example of my code:

Plans to rename wxruby-swig to wxruby2
Greetings all,
Over the last few months, while I have been busy on other projects, Nick
and other folks have built wxruby-swig up to where it now supports about
120 classes, compared to the 139 in wxruby 0.6. When you include the
fact that wxruby 0.6 had a few classes that really weren''t needed
(because non-wx ruby versions work fine), it looks like wxruby-swig is
actually very

BusyCursor probs in 0.6
The new block version of BusyCursor doesn''t work for me -- some
actions in between the { braces } do not get carried out.
To illustrate, I have taken the nothing.rbw sample app, and added a
couple of lines to it, so the full code now reads:
require ''wxruby''
include Wx
class MyFrame < Wx::Frame
def initialize(title)
super(nil, -1, title)
end
end
class
