Diskless client from system-config-netboot doesn't boot.
Hi folks,
I've followed a set of instructions I found on
http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/centos_linux_guides/centos_enterprise_linux_sysadmin_guide/ch-diskless.htmli
which describes using system-config-netboot to set up PXE booting.
I used a CentOS-4.3 install (custom, all options de-selected, then
anaconda-busybox installed after the fact) as a reference/base. I
followed the

pxeos tool in system-config-netboot missing in CentOS
Hello all,
Since the "pxeos" utility is missing per Bug #0002304,
http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2304
which is required for me to setup a PXE server; which I'd like to in CentOS;
Question: ... I am unable to find source for this; seems like the
bug means that this was an oversight; perhaps the source is available
somewhere and I can simply compile? If anyone is familiar

Anyone got Diskless BOOT working under CentOS ???
Im trying to get a diskless boot set up under CentOS 5.2, and having no luck
at all.
I am to the point of running system-config-netboot, and whatever information
I put in, I get an error message.
Responding to the 2nd button on the first popup, which asks for NFS info,
I put in the IP address of the current machine (the machine that will hold
the boot images for the diskless machine) and the

Upstream vendor's diskless vs LTSP
Hello all,
I have a customer that insists of using upstream vendor's diskless
(system-config-netboot) rather than LTSP. The reason is that he wants to use
a 100% packages from the vendor, not from LTSP or any other party.
I try the vendor's diskless system, and although it's very simple to setup, it
lacks the support and/or documentation whereas LTSP is very good in it.

probs running stuff from initrd
Hello all
Now I may be way of whack here, so please forgive me.
I''m trying to merge xen with redhat''s config-netboot. The idea being a
kinda stateless domU. For those that haven''t seen you share a rootfs and
then bind mount all the individual files over then top, and the redhat
gui builds all the pxeboot config and stuff for you if you want a
diskless client. I

pxelinux fron Floppy disk?
Hi there,
we are using a couple of Diskless Linux Workstations in conjunction with PXE
capabable Network cards to boot the system. This works fine using pxelinux.
However, there are a few workstations left, which are not able to boot via
PXE and thus this workstations need a Kernel on a floppy disk and an
additional initrd image.
The Problem with is, that both of them don't fit on a floppy

pxe + memdisk ..??
Hello ALL,
I've got a diskless server working (under Gentoo), booting on it works. (a linux session start with no problem.)
My Big problem, is to get Memdisk to boot with PXE. In fact memdisk is loaded, but it cannot find the img file. I've tried a lot of thing, but nothing works...
tftp use : /diskless
the config file for PXE in then in : /diskless/pxelinux.cfg/
the root for the

One thing to make sure you have straight is Target vs. Initiator [2], for me it originally felt like the names were backwards.

CTRL+X LSS16 Image embedded in "DISPLAY message" no longer works?
Dear gentlemen,
this is just a marginal quirk...
I've been using a graphical logo at the pxelinux prompt in our LAN
for many years. It's always been the same LSS16 picture, and it's
always been working fine.
I've been using pxelinux 3.53 until recently.
Right now I'm in the process of introducing "UEFI netboot" into our
LAN, and also the diskless boot into

Netboot and PXELINUX
Hi all,
I have just been informed that Netboot (http://netboot.sourceforge.net/)
can be used to produce PXE boot ROMs. I wonder if anyone has tried
running this combination with PXELINUX? This is obviously a really big
deal... :)

netboot, vnc and no keyboard/mouse/monitor
hey guys,
I just created a custom netboot cd, that launches and loads from a
http source, but connects to a vnc listening viewer. All in all, not
hard to do, but what is different with this one is that it skips the
media check, has no prompts and allows you to start the install on a
machine that has no keyboard/mouse/monitor. Was handy for me as when i
have some boxes to load, I just

dual disk netboot approach
Hello,
My challenge is to run Linux on a computer
where I don't dare to touch the Microsoft Windows harddisk.
Fifthteen years ago would be trick to attach a second harddisk to the
computer and boot from floppy disk. In 2011 is the idea to attach a
second disk and netboot it.
One approach is to TFTP the kernel and append 'root=/dev/sdb1'

lo0: bpf
I have modified /sbin/start_freebsd.sh and /etc/xen/freebsd.py to generate

gigabit networks and kernel loads
I have been using pxelinux with Intel 850 1.7 Ghz P4 motherboards using
10/100 ethernet switches for about a year in a multichannel visual
generation system. We are shifting to SuperMicro P4SAA 2.8 Ghz P4
motherboards with onboard gigabit ethernet and gigabit ethernet
switches. Put are hung up because the diskless slave nodes will not load
the (Linux) kernel from the master 2.8 Ghz computer.

Unable to PXE boot
I'm replacing the master node in a cluster and having issues PXE booting
the diskless nodes. The current master works fine, but the new node to
replace the current node which has the same setup is having the issues.
The hardware is:
Dell r920 (new master node, UEFI)
Dell r620's (diskless, BIOS)
Dell 1950's (diskless, BIOS)
When trying to boot, the 1950 node displays (though both

Looking for ways to save space - AKA how to boot multiple machines from the same root
I have several machines, same hardware and config, but one tiny little
change.. the hostname. Each one of these diskless machines needs its own
hostname.
Presently my pxelinux.cfg is setup like:

default Gentoo
timeout 10
label Gentoo
kernel boot/kernel-3.16.5-gentoo
APPEND root=/dev/nfs rw ip=dhcp

Read only nfsroot and diskless booting CentOS 6?
Does anyone have any good how-to's or documentation on setting up read only root NFS for pxe booting diskless computers? A few months ago I stumbled upon an official Redhat doc through a google search(not hosted by redhat and I cannot find it anywhere on the Redhat site) written by Dave Kline named "Configuring diskless clients with Red Hat Enterprise Linux" from 2011. It seemed to
