iptables rule question for Centos 5
I have a server that allows incoming traffic for ssh and some other
things.
I need to set up a rule that will drop/reject all traffic from a
particular server except ssh.
How can I do that.

vsftp and nonpriv_user option question
thhis didnt go through completely the first time.
I am a bit confused as to how this works.
I created a local unpriveleged user (with /bin/nologin shell).
i uncommented the line containing
nopriv_user=ftpsecure
and restarted vsftp.
I am confused as to what is supposed to happen.
Shuld the daemon /usr/sbin/vsftpd be run as root or should it be
ftpsecure?
Or is the account only used to

files not showing up in an nfs mounted filesysetm in timely manner
We have and nfs mount from a windows pc nfs server. A file is created
on the server, but can take as long as 50 seconds to become available on
the client.
We are running Centos 5.2 (final), using NFS version 3. Is there
anything we can do from the client side to see the file more quickly.
The files are very small, usually about 1k

createrepo command for 6.4 respin
Hi List,
I have been searching for the correct createrepo command to make a 6.4 respin.
We have been doing this with previous versions using
createrepo -u "media://$discinfo" -g ${DIR}/my_kickstart${VER}/comps.xml .
Which had worked fine until now.
Thanks,

biosdevname
Hello,
Anybody else run into problems with biosdevname .0.5..0-2 changing names
from p2p1 to em1 when upgrading from biosdevname 0.4.1-3?
Darn!
I thought biosdevname was to keep the names the same!!

sudo doing DNS lookup
Hi,
I have a confusing problem. I have two centos 5,5 boxes. Both have
sudo.i386 1.7.2p1-9.el5_5
installed
I am using the same sudoers file, but the one on box A keeps trying to
do DNS lookups
while the one on box B does not. How do I disable this DNS lookup?
Thanks for any info.

CONFIG_ARPD turned on in centosplus kernel.
Alan& Akemi,
Would it be possible to get CONFIG_ARPD turned on in the
centosplus 6.x kernel? It is required to use opennhrp.
See the link below where is was decided to turn it on in Fedora.

Rename a directory in R
Hi,
I want to be able to rename a folder using R, similar to file.rename. I want to paste " - done" onto the folder name. The reason for this is we run a loop on a large number of folders on a server and it would be nice for people to be able to log in and instantly see if their data has been processed so they can remove it.
I have searched the help list but have not found anything and

colours in a pdf
Hi,
I'm plotting PDFs and have a problem. If I have more than 8 sources of data the colours are repeated. These plots are used to remove poor data from the sets so it would be helpful if I could expand the colour range. Is there any way to do this?
The plots are coloured by defining a vector colsVec<-1:(length(mzXMLfiles))
And defined in the loop for (file in 1:length(mzXMLfiles))

6.5 vpn/gre/ospf breakage
Hi List,
FYI.
We have been using CentOS 6.4 and have 2 vpn/gre tunnels to separate cisco rtrs using ospf.
with kernel 2.6.32-358.23.2
We have upgraded to 6.5 bit using kernel 2.6.32-431.5.1 and the exact same configuration scripts for
our vpn/gre tunnels.
What I see is the first gre tunnel works great and I get an ospf neighbor.
The second tunnel comes up and I can ping across it and I see

ifcfg-br options
Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an option for the ifcfg-br file that matches the
brctl setageing parameter?
I am using KVM and am running a DPI guest and need this parameter set to 0 to get
mirrored span port data to cross the bridge to the guest vnet device.
Thanks,

saying it had been added to 6.5

But it is still not available.

fsck
Hello,
We are running units in the field that are headless. Sometimes we get units returned
that we when we boot them up have some type of filesystem inconsistency that the default preen
doesn't fix but running fsck -y does.
I want to eliminate the -p (preen option) and always do the -y option anyone know where
to make this change?
Thanks,
