time keeps on slipping... slipping...
I recently put together a new machine w/ a SuperMicro H8SCM and an AMD Opteron 4228 HE... I've having an issue where the clock on the machine skips around... The wierd part is that it's very sudden when it happens... ntp sometimes brings it back, but it can't when the clock gets too far ahread (1000 seconds), ntp dies... In order to catch it happening, I ran a sleep 60 loop

make_dev_physpath_alias
Hello all. I have a supermicro 16 bay box with a LSI 9211-8i card. We use it for temp data storage, and we wanted to try the l4z compression. After updating the source tree to r247839: and doing a make buildworld cycle all works fine. But at boot time we get some warnings. make_dev_physpath_alias: WARNING - Unable to alias gptid/281951f4-a996-11e1-83eb-00259061b51a to enc at

FreeBSD 10 Beta 2: make installkernel failure with installer provided ZFS configuration.
Hi, I was trying to rebuild world on a FreeBSD 10 test system, that I had just installed. ZFS root was setup. I let the installation program do all the ZFS setup and configuration. I put root on a 5 disk encrypted raidz array. Besides the installer configuring 5 times the amount of swap space I asked for (asked for 8gb, installer put 8gb on each drive, for 40gb in total.) everything was working

FreeBSD 10 & default_vsz_limit causing reboots?
Update.? Only a single reboot has occurred since changing defalt_vsz_limit from 384M to 512M.? It would seem that something the users are doing is causing that virtual memory size to be exceeded (possibly a mailbox search?), and when that occurs Dovecot/FreeBSD is not handling the event as smoothly as expected. Here's my dmesg for more basic info. Sep 17 11:25:39 romulus syslogd: kernel boot

Problem detecting Sil3124 SATA controllers off of Sandy Bridge northbridge-connected PCIe slots
Hi, We're having some trouble with detection of a couple of Sil3124 SATA controller cards on newer motherboard and processor combos. Specifically, we're running a Supermicro X9SCM-F motherboard (latest BIOS) and Intel E3-1220v2 CPU. What we're seeing: - Syba Sil3124 PCIe cards are only being detected when installed in PCIe Slot 4 -- The motherboard documentation shows that this

thread taskq / unp_gc() using 100% cpu and stalling unix socket IPC
Hi there We have a pair of servers running FreeBSD 9.1-RC3 that act as transparent layer 7 loadbalancer (relayd) and pop/imap proxy (dovecot). Only one of them is active at a given time, it's a failover setup. From time to time the active one gets in a state in which the 'thread taskq' thread uses up 100% of one cpu on its own, like here: ---- PID USERNAME PRI NICE SIZE

load average 0.60 at 100% idle
Hi! Bare with me here as I'm totally new to FreeBSD (like 2 weeks). >From what I understand, there is a change in FreeBSD 9.1 ACPI code that makes detection of devices happen earlier? This can result in eventtimer irqs being shared with another device and can therefor throw off tools reporting load avg values (they report constantly around 0.60 in load). I guess there were good reasons

Time Clock Stops in FreeBSD 9.0 guest running under ESXi 5.0
I've now seen this on two different VMs on two different ESXi servers (Xeon based hosts but different hardware otherwise and at different facilities): Everything runs fine for weeks then (seemingly) suddenly/randomly the clock STOPS. In the first case I saw a jump backwards of about 15 minutes (and then a 'freeze' of the clock). The second time just 'time standing

1950's UK rotary dial phone
Folks, I've got one of those GPO 1950's rotary dial phones that I'm trying to get working in the UK. I've got pretty much everything working with my TDM400, the phone rings and I can receive calls but I cannot dial with the rotary dialer. I have set pulsedial=true or whatever the exact setting is and I can dial from the phone by lifting the receiver and tapping out the number on

[PATCH] Disable HPET broadcast mode on kexec
# HG changeset patch # User Ian Campbell <ian.campbell@citrix.com> # Date 1254298855 0 # Node ID 5215da46d60f95d57244e709cb3b189caffec50c # Parent 6472342c8ab0789b844714bcf557e9e5eeacca42 Disable HPET broadcast mode on kexec. Without this the new kernel cannot receive timer interrupts from the legacy sources. Hangs are observed in the second kernel''s "check_timer()"

[PATCH]Improve HPET comparator reprog to prevent intr-near-missing case
HPET intr-near-missing means if the current counter value is too close to the comparator value to be reprogrammed the expected HPET intr may be missing. Linux kernel uses a mininal 48-hpet-ticks(~3.5us) distance to workaround this, but personal observation showed there is still failure case while delta=0xba (~13.5us). So choosing 20us as the MIN_DELTA_NS should be helpful to prevent near-missing

[PATCH 2/4] x86/hpet: replace disabling of legacy broadcast
... by the call to hpet_disable() added in the immediately preceding patch. In order to retain the behavior intended by c/s 23776:0ddb4481f883, implement one of the alternative options pointed out there: remove CPUs from the online map in __stop_this_cpu() (and hence doing so in stop_this_cpu() is no longer needed). [PATCH 1/4] x86/hpet: disable before reboot or kexec
Linux up to now is not smart enough to properly clear the HPET when it boots, which is particularly a problem when a kdump attempt from running under Xen is being made. Linux itself added code to work around this to its shutdown paths quite some time ago, so let''s do something similar in Xen: Save the configuration register settings during boot, and restore them during shutdown.
