What would be the best tutorial cum reference doc for ZFS
as used on Illumos? I''ve seen a few tutorials written by people who obviously are very action oriented; afterwards you find you have worn your keyboard down a bit and not learned a lot at all, at least not in the sense of understanding what zfs is and what it does and why things are the way they are. I''m looking for something that would make me afterwards understand what,

Question on 4k sectors
Hi. Is the problem with ZFS supporting 4k sectors or is the problem mixing 512 byte and 4k sector disks in one pool, or something else? I have seen alot of discussion on the 4k issue but I haven''t understood what the actual problem ZFS has with 4k sectors is. It''s getting harder and harder to find large disks with 512 byte sectors so what should we do? TIA...

Confusion when trying to set up a first postfix+dovecot mailserver
I'm trying to set up a first test for a dovecot + postfix (+ many other things) mail server for about 1000 accounts, and I keep stumbling on confusing inconsistencies in the HowTo documents I'm trying to follow. I tried to do a simple setup with virtual users using a howto saying it was for just that and that it's for Dovecot 2.x, and it shows a few text chunks to put in files,

Dovecot design-question
Hi everybody, we're currently in the process of drafting our new mailserver-setup. Instead of a single-server-setup we'd like to have two equal servers behind a loadbalancer like LVS and shared mailhomes on NFS. We'd like to use dovecot for POP/IMAP, dovecot-deliver as LDA. - It's probably the best idea to direct SMTP and POP/IMAP always to the same server behind the

load balancing CIFS/Samba
Hi Folks, I'm trying out some ideas for loadbalancing Samba servers with some replication underneath. Right now, we're trying to use DNS round robin, just to see if it works, but it isn't. Our basic config is that we have the same share and NMB server name on every node. Each node has a different IP hostname, which are all round-robin'ed to a single hostname. When we try to

Single bandwidth pipe
Hi all, Can someone help me in creating a single bandwidth pipe out of two or more bandwidth providers. Say, I have 2 internet connections 1) 128 K 2) 128 K I want to use both of them on a single linux box. Is there any way to do so. Of course loadbalancing can be done, but I don''t want loadbalancing. I want to have a single pipe of 256 K. Some time back I was suggested to use squid on

Internet fail over
Bit of a shorewall newbie so if the answer is obvious please be gentle. We have been using version 1.4.2 for a while now and are very happy with how it performs, however we are looking to increase the resilience of our internet connection by providing a second internet feed. The idea being that should the primary connection fail shorewall will transparently (as far as users are concerned) switch

High availability of Dovecot
Hi, list, I'm going to deploy postfix + dovecot + CephFS( as Mail Storage). Basically I want to use two servers for them, which is kind of HA. My idea is that using keepalived or Pacemaker to host a VIP, which could fail over the other server once one is down. And I'll use Haproxy or Nginx to schedule connections to one of those server based on source IP( Session stickiness),

Largescale Asterisk setup - 1000 external lines
Hi there Does anyone know if it is possible to install a largescale asterisk cluster with up to 1000 external lines. Redundancy and loadbalancing would surely be a must for a such system, but which other things should be considered? Best Regards Guenther Rust

Switchtower for production?
Hello, The company that I work for will be developing a large webbased survey (for a government institution) somewhere in Q1/Q2 of 2006. I''m investigating the technological possibilities and Rails is certainly a candidate. The survey application will have to perform under very high peak load, and the exact specifications of the hardware are not known at this point. I''m assuming

force ciphers order for clients
Hi Timo, reading this http://www.kuketz-blog.de/perfect-forward-secrecy-mit-apple-mail/ it looks like DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA:DHE-RSA-AES128-SHA can be forced in use with apple mail ( if no ECDHE is possible ,by missing openssl 1.x etc, seems that apple mail tries ECDHE first if fails its going to use RSA-AES128-SHA ) force soltution as tried ssl_cipher_list =

Making a custom selection form - newbie
Hello all, I''ve been working with Ruby on Rails for a few weeks now. It''s difficult for me because I don''t have much experience with Ruby, Rails, MySQL, or any other web-languages. But I''m trudging on and learning a lot. I''ve been working on a web application for my dad''s website; it''s a simple content manager for
