Question on 4k sectors
Hi. Is the problem with ZFS supporting 4k sectors or is the problem mixing 512 byte and 4k sector disks in one pool, or something else? I have seen alot of discussion on the 4k issue but I haven''t understood what the actual problem ZFS has with 4k sectors is. It''s getting harder and harder to find large disks with 512 byte sectors so what should we do? TIA...

What would be the best tutorial cum reference doc for ZFS
as used on Illumos? I''ve seen a few tutorials written by people who obviously are very action oriented; afterwards you find you have worn your keyboard down a bit and not learned a lot at all, at least not in the sense of understanding what zfs is and what it does and why things are the way they are. I''m looking for something that would make me afterwards understand what,

Settings for authentication without an extra password file
Hello, I'm new to dovecot, and, due to having an older version of an OS installed on a test server, I'll be using an older version of dovecot (dovecot-1.0-1.2) to provide IMAP services. On this wiki page (http://wiki.dovecot.org/BasicConfiguration?highlight=%28passwd.dovecot%29) There are instructions for creating a separate dovecot password file: echo

Problems trying to add dspam delivery to dovecot LDA to working Postfix/Dovecot server. No passdb.
Hello list, I'm really hoping someone can point me in the right direction on this. I set up a server using Postfix with LDAP lookups to Active Directory. Postfix delivers to maildir. Dovecot IMAP and POP are working correctly using PAM Kerberos to authenticate via Active Directory. I want to add spam filtering, so I'm trying to set up Postfix to use dspam which is then supposed to use

Trying to get DSpam+Dovecot working with Postfix and local/virtual domains
Hi, I'm hoping that someone might be able to help, as I've been going in circles with trying to get the right configuration done here. I'm also not sure whether this is more of a Dovecot or DSpam question, so I'm posting the same to both mailing lists. My goal is to have a mail setup that is as follows: [Incoming email] --> [Postfix] --> [Amavis] --> [DSpam] -->

Director mailserver health monitoring script
Timo et al; The last bit of functionality that the Dovecot director is missing compared to our existing load balancers is mailserver health monitoring. As I understand it, if a mailserver goes down, Dovecot does not take any action to route connections around the offline node, and will keep trying to proxy clients to it. Since we're hoping to cut over to Directors soon, but don't want to

How do you join a Linux mailserver to a Samba domain?
thx, Bob . . . The e-mail problems appears to be a permissions and summary file issue. I gave the users Administrative permissions, and everything worked perfectly. Then I compacted the folders and rebuilt the summary files, took away Administrator permissions, and everything STILL works perfectly. When I posted the question, I wondered if there was some step in joining the mailserver

Mailserver move
Hi subscribers, the sponsor of the machine our mailserver runs on will be physically moving the machine at around May 27th 04:00 UTC. This move will take until around May 27th 07:00 UTC (or shorter). This means that there will be no activity on the mailing lists during that time. We all hope that the machine will come up without problems again after the move. If it doesn't, service (mailing

Problem logging in during testing
Instructions at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/BasicConfiguration say the next thing to test after getting IMAP and Telnet working is to create a dummy user file with the following command: echo "$USER:{PLAIN}password:$UID:$GID::$HOME" > users And place it in /etc/dovecot and protect it appropriately. It was also edited to change the plain-text password from `password' to what it

Mail list empty on my mailserver
Hello, After changing NAS, I meet a problem when I go on my e-mail box with my webmail. Either e-mails do not appear anymore, or they appear but are "empty". When I look in the directory of the e-mails of my mailserver, these e-mails are present. I tried to rename files "dovecot.index*" and to restart dovecot but nothing can be done. To make the seesaw of a NAS towards an

My webserver also houses our mailserver. There's about six users on that mail system and I'm thinking it would be good to back up the mailboxes to my always on HTPC computer at home, which is reachable via a dynamic IP service. I know (or think) I need to use doveadm-backup for this but rather than reinvent the wheel (or use the wrong wheel altogether) I'm wondering if anyone can
