Puppet vs Oracle Enterprise Manager (cm pack)?
Hey;
I''m still very new to puppet having *just* finished the pro puppet book.
Going to have to go back to that a few times for re-reading, I suspect.
Any rate, I have a client who''s leaning very heavily towards OEM w/the
configuration management pack. Despite some fairly exhaustive google
sessions, I haven''t been able to find a direct comparison between these

Oracle UEK kernel on CentOS
Hello CentOS Guys,
What do you think about the Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel?
Since Release 2 of the UEK Kernel, all updates are available free of
charge > http://public-yum.oracle.com/
My questions:
Does the Oracle UEK kernel really perform better than the default centos kernel?
Technical advantages and disadvantages?
Would you use the Oracle UEK Kernel on centos?

any significant differences between centos and OEL?
someone just pointed out to me that there is a distro called "oracle
enterprise linux" which is effectively a re-branded RHEL, so i'm
curious -- has anyone here used both centos and OEL and would there be
any differences that would be worth caring about?
the only thing i can think of that might be worthwhile is that OEL
might change some of the default kernel parms thru

How to mount OCFS2 file systems using the EMC Power Path multipath device
OEL 5, OCFS 1.4, using EMC Power Path for multi pathing.
I want t mount the OCFS2 file system on the emc power path device.
I can mount by UUID, and not have to worry about persistent bindings across
nodes.
But how do I make sure when it mounts by UUID , that the pwoer path device
is used.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Virt-what on OEL 5
Hello,
I''m trying to install facter latest on OEL 5.5 but can''t because virt-what
doesn''t appear to be in the oracle repositories or EPEL. Can anyone
confirm/deny this?
Thanks,
Spencer Krum

facter fails to recognize OEL/OVS in operatingsystemrelease.rb
For the benefit of those running OEL (Oracle Enterprise Linux) or OVS,
be aware that under 2.6.0rc4 facter doesn''t properly recognize OEL in
/usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/facter/operatingsystemrelease.rb. A diff
for a fix is below; probably not the best fix but if you need it work
now, this''ll do it for you.
I''ve already filed a bug:

Hi everyone,
This might be a very petty thing but Its not working for me.
I want to export an output to a txt file but without indexing.

var.names = c(names(para))
for(i in 1: ncol(output)){
cat(length(var.names), '\n')

RHEL6 beta vs. Xen
Has anyone yet figured out what it would take to make Xen
run on top of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 beta?
We are heavily invested in Xen under RHEL5 (actually
a redhat clone) distribution, but already the xen kernel
they are shipping with update 4 and 5 is shaky and has bugs
which they don''t seem to be in a hurry to fix.
Basically I am wondering if Redhat 6 is just going to

smbclient mask command seems not to work the same way with recurse ON for mget and mput
Dear folks.
I am using smbclient 4.2.10 version (the one packaged for OEL 6,
samba4-client-4.2.10-15.el6.x86_64), and observing a weird behaviour of the
tool.
I've got a Linux local directorio, say /tmp/eraseme, with a couple of
subdirectories in it, say a and b, each one containing a dummy file, say
a/AM.xls and b/AT.xls
If I run:
smbclient -d 30 -l /var/log/samba -m SMB3 -W

Confgure SAN with Linux
Hi,
i'm new to this subject. I try to present a san attachment on my Linux server (OEL 5.5).
I'm running a HP server with qlogic 2462 and my SAN Storage is a HP EVA. Zoning is good. I installed HP SanSurfer and i see the vdisk with this utility.
But, impossible to see the volume from the os. Fdisk returns me to the local disks, and multipath -l command does not return any info.

Good morning,

febootstrap: no ext2 root device found
Hello-
I've recently upgraded from OEL 6.4 to OEL 6.8. Infiniband Hardware
installed on the server prevents me from upgrading the OS version any
higher.
Kernel Version:
Oracle Linux Server Red Hat Compatible Kernel (2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64)
Since the upgrade, there have been problems with libguestfs-tools hanging,
then timing out.
I'd like to use the newest version of

Have started seeing this over the last few days on a couple of hosts.
Does anyone have any familiarity with this, and or how I can debug what
mount/filesystem/inode is having the issues?

A Billion Files on OCFS2 -- Best Practices?
We have an application that has many processing threads writing more than a
billion files ranging from 2KB ? 50KB, with 50% under 8KB (currently there
are 700 million files). The files are never deleted or modified ? they are
written once, and read infrequently. The files are hashed so that they are
evenly distributed across ~1,000,000 subdirectories up to 3 levels deep,
with up to 1000 files

[PATCH] Btrfs: allow compressed extents to be merged during defragment
The rule originally comes from nocow writing, but snapshot-aware
defrag is a different case, the extent has been writen and we''re
not going to change the extent but add a reference on the data.
So we''re able to allow such compressed extents to be merged into
one bigger extent if they''re pointing to the same data.

OT: laptop recommendations for CentOS6
Hi all,
First of all, sorry for the OT. I need to buy a new laptop for my
work. My prerequisites are:
- RAM: 6/8 GiB (preferably 8 GiB)
- Processor: Core i7
- Disk: up to 500 GiB for SATA, 128 GiB for SSD.
- Graphics card: Intel HD (I really hate to use Nvidia or ATI Radeon
graphics cards).
The most important tasks will be:
- Surf the web :)
- Read email
- And the Most important
