File Server using ISCSI attached storage - Hardware HBA ?
Hi Everyone I am looking at setting up a File Server that uses ISCSI storage. It is the first time I have done this, so I am wanting to get peoples thoughts on whether for CentOS systems you should use Hardware based ISCSI HBA's? If so do I need to be careful about what HBA I use ? Currently I am looking at purchasing a Dell System using Broadcom ethernet cards/ ISCSI HBA. From

Can I use direct attached storage as a shared filesystem in Xen
I have a quad core server in which I want to run 4 virtual servers. On this server I have a 1/2 terabyte raid 1 I have split between the 4 members that have the OS on it. I have raid 5 10 terabyte internal storage running on a 3ware 9690a card. I want to share this storage between the servers without partitioning it. Is this possible? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment

the naming convention libvirt names a block based storage volume
Seems like different libvirt versions generate a storage volume name in different format. We would like to learn how libvirt names a storage volume under a block based storage pool. So that we may properly extract the LUN identifier out of the volume name for now and in the future. On host A loaded with libvirt 0.8.7 # virsh vol-list SanPool1 Name Path -----------------------------------------

Live Migration... shortest path
In a prior message I documented my woes in getting an NFS_ROOT xen going. I haven''t resolved those yet, want to try a different tack at this: If the group were to recommend a path of least resistance to showing migration/live migration, which configuration would it be? iscsi storage, LACP or Multipathing | Migration or rebuild?
Hi, I do have one iscsi storage with 4 GBit nics of which currently only one is configured with an ip and which is in productive use by one cent os 6.3 server. Doing some research brought me to the idea to use some nic bonding or multipathing for that storage, but multipathing I did about four or five years ago only once :) Furthormore I can't find the ultimate answer (may be there is not

Live migration without block copy
Hello all, I'm trying to get live migration without block copying working in a custom solution, but I think I need a better understanding of the migration process. In my environment, I have two iscsi targets exported which are then placed into a raid via mdadm on the compute node. I've tried using the already exposed hook on stop to disassemble and re-export storage, and I also made my

How to implement HA and Live Migration with a SAN?
Hello, I''ve configured two xen hosts (dom0) sharing a LUN on a SAN. My firs obiective is to run different domU on the two hosts, and implement live migration between them. Subsequently, I''d like to implement HA, so if a xen host goes down, domUs will be restarted on the other one. What''s the better way to obtain this? I think I need a cluster file system to

Monitoring my disk activity
Recently, I''m benchmarking all kinds of stuff on my systems. And one question I can''t intelligently answer is what blocksize I should use in these tests. I assume there is something which monitors present disk activity, that I could run on my production servers, to give me some statistics of the block sizes that the users are actually performing on the production server.

DRBD 8.0.6 introduces "native" live-migration ability
Thought this would be interesting for some people: Version 8.0.6 of DRBD comes with a nice script that adds support for a config like disk = [ ''drbd:r0,hda1,w'' ] This supports migration and live migration without having to take care of drbd yourself. Really nice feature. Read changelog on 8.0.6 on: http://svn.drbd.org/drbd/branches/drbd-8.0/ChangeLog Regards Dominik

using shared storage with libvirt/KVM?
Hello, I've spent a few days googling and reading documentation, but I'm looking for clarification and advise on setting up KVM/libvirt with shared storage. I have 2 (for now) Ubuntu Karmic systems with KVM/virsh/virt-manager set up and running. I have a storage server that can do NFS/iSCSI/samba/ etc. I am trying to figure out the best way to set things up so that I can run

Choices for shared network storage, NFS vs iSCSI
Has anyone here ran performance comparisons between NFS and iSCSI when using network storage for KVM based guests. Also which have people found to be easier for managing live migrates etc. Steve -- Steven Ellis - Bulletin.Net Inc - http://www.bulletin.net

iscsi storage creation
Hi, I have set up a 40GB iscsi target on my san and when I add it in to the storage pool and it shows up as 40GB. When I try to create a 40GB volume in the ovirt UI it tries to but fails. The error message is that the volume will not fit. If I create one smaller than 40GB it works. Is anyone else experiencing this? Also, if I then start a virtual machine up to install on the newly

[PATCH] blkback: Fix block I/O latency issue
In blkback driver, after I/O requests are submitted to Dom-0 block I/O subsystem, blkback goes to ''sleep'' effectively without letting blkfront know about it (req_event isn''t set appropriately). Hence blkfront doesn''t notify blkback when it submits a new I/O thus delaying the ''dispatch'' of the new I/O to Dom-0 block I/O subsystem. The new I/O is

iSCSI storage pool questions
Hi All, I've been trying to figure out the best way of using an iSCSI SAN with KVM and thanks to a helpful post by Tom Georgoulias that I found on this list (https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvirt-users/2010-May/msg00008.html), it appears I have a solution. What I'm wondering is the following: 1) If I use an iSCSI LUN as the storage pool (instead of creating an LVM VG from this iSCSI

Opinion on best way to use network storage
I need the community''s opinion on the best way to use my storage SAN to host xen images. The SAN itself is running iSCSI and NFS. My goal is to keep all my xen images on the SAN device, and to be able to easily move images from one host to another as needed while minimizing storage requirements and maximizing performance. What I see are my options: 1) Export a directory through NFS.

NAS Storage server question
Hello all, At our office a have a server running 3 Xen domains. Mail server, etc. I want to make this setup more redundant. There are a few howtos on the combination of Xen, DRBD, and heartbeat. That is probably the best way. Another option I am looking at is a piece of shared storage, a machine running CentOS with a large software RAID 5 array. What is the best means of sharing the storage?

iscsi storage and multipathing
First, I am new to Xen.... So forgive me if I am overlooking something. Here is my situation, I have multiple dom0''s that are part of an ocfs2 cluster. The dom0''s mount multiple volumes (/home, /app, /images) from an ISCSI storage array. Their eth2/eth3 network interfaces are attached to a private storage network. They are not part of Xen''s network bridge and have
