Tinc OSPF involving bridge
Hi Everyone,
I have a routing situation where Tinc looks like it could come in extremely useful, but I have a query I hope someone can cast an eye on, as I'm unsure whether Tinc can help me here.
I currently have a Quagga OSPF linux router which connects LAN A to LAN B over the quickest available of two routes (both routes at both ends connect to Quagga boxes to prevent collisions).

Switched tinc VPN question
Hello World,
I have met tinc a few days ago and started with a simple connection
between 2 machines. I have fallen in love witht tinc, it's very simple
to configure, although I haven't used tinc in production yet, because of
its simplicity I think it's very robust. I also like how the
configuration is organized with hosts/ directory, up/down scripts. Thank
you for such a great tool.

Can I pass 802.1q (VLAN tagged) through a VPN Tinc in HUB/Switch mode?.
Hello to everybody,
Sorry if my english isn?t very good.
I need pass 802.1q through a VPN between two offices.
I have mounted a WRT54GL, with OpenWRT firmware, conected to a switch trunk
port in both offices.
In the switch of the first office I have created five tagged VLANs and I
need pass these VLAN to the second offices where it has created it too.
Can I do this with Tinc in HUB/Switch

"HA" ie. two linked tincds on the same ethernet segment
Goodday,
Currently using tinc 1.0.24 on Debian 8.x, OVH datacentre, two servers same VRACK (ie. internal ethernet bridge/switched together).
I’m wanting to get a remote server connected to both the two OVH servers for fail-over reasons, but having access via both to the shared vRack segment as a switch mode. Thereby Essentially I’m creating a ethernet loop…

Not seeing any more LocalDiscovery broadcasts
Hi,
I am playing with LocalDiscovery again and have noticed that I do not
see any LocalDiscovery broadcasts anymore.
I am using tinc 1.1-pre9 in switch mode and have set LocalDiscovery =
yes in tinc.conf. I do not see any broadcasts on any network and I also
do not see anything in the debug output.
What to do?

Bridge not forwarding multicast traffic to the tap interface
I have a Debian 8 64-bit machine set up as a server and apt-got the tinc
package. I configured tinc as a bridge and everything seems normal except
that the tunnel does not forward multicast traffic.
I used tcpdump to examine the br0, eth0 and tap interfaces. I could see
multicast packets on both br0 and eth0, but there is no such packet present
on the tap interface. I don't quite know why

Re: Is it possible to block ipv6 auto configuration entering the tinc tunnel?
hi
It was not working when i applied the rules on the vpn card. But I wondered if maybe bridging of vpn and eth0 was messing this up. I thought it was enough to only apply it to the vpn card

Using STP in kvm bridges
Hi all,
Reading docs about using bridges in a KVM environment, I have a doubt
about activating STP or not in a KVM host.
What advantages and disadvantages have?? If I will want to install
some kvm guests that use multicast address for certain services, is it
recommended to enable STP?
Thanks.

Re: Is it possible to block ipv6 auto configuration entering the tinc tunnel?
Hi
thank you for looking in to this. I haven't tried it before now. I cant get it to work.
after running the commands you suggest I get this when I run ip6tables --list-rules
root at JOTVPN:~# ip6tables --list-rules
-P INPUT ACCEPT
-P FORWARD ACCEPT
-P OUTPUT ACCEPT
-A FORWARD -i vpn -p ipv6-icmp -m icmp6 --icmpv6-type 133 -j DROP

very high traffic without any load
Hi everyone,
I am new to using tinc and currently trying to set up a full IPv6 mesh between 4 servers of mine. Setting it up went smoothly and all of the tinc clients do connect properly. Routing through the network works fine as well. There is however a large amount of management traffic which I assume should not be the case.
Here is a quick snapshot using "tinc -n netname top"

tinc on Gentoo
net-misc/tinc-1.0.12 works for me on amd64
1. there is an official ebuild for 1.0.11, but not for 1.0.12 yet
2. my -r1 contains changed initscript 'tincd.lo' to be used like net.lo
by ln -s tincd.lo tincd.vpn_name and then calling tincd.vpn_name to
start/stop
3. it is in my overlay together with latest versions of some other

[Bridge] STP with only 2 switches
Hi all,
We are facing a problem with STP implementation. We have only 2 switches.
Thats the constraint, but we feel STP should work.
Background:
We have developed a layer 2 switch. This uses Cirrus logic's ep9301
processor, embedded Linux 2.4.21 kernel as the OS and zarlink's switch
controller.
The observation:
1)we have 2 switches, switch A and switch B
2)port 1 and port 2 of switch

Problem with connecting another subnet
Hello Peter,
Your question is similar to my recent question, and I have a similar Ping problem. But yours, with two Tinc networks, is more complex than mine.
All I can say, and I hope it helps, is that in my case I have found my Ubuntu Tinc Server nodes do not like being specified as a address on the same network as the local LANsSo I have a specific network for the Tinc Server nodes, and in this

Is there any some cases we can see ?
Hi,
We just found the tinc, looks like it is really a better VPN solution than
traditional VPN, I am wondering, is there some cases we can refer, like is
there some big cluster running in the production environment ?
Thank you.

Strange tinc behavior on OSX Yosemite
Hi,
I have already working set of tinc nodes and tried to add one more machine,
mac mini with osx yosemite onboard.
Tincd starts and connects to other nodes as supposed but I can't connect to
mini from any of other nodes. When I try to use ssh the following lines
appears repeatedly in mini's logs along with the regular logs about making
connections and MTU probes:

Wine-users mail storm - long explanation
Hi All,
>>>Clarification: I'm getting a flood of wine-users emails.
Yes, I'm seeing this too. I spent all day today trying to
understand why this is happening, and failed, but I think
I have just now figured it out.
As far as I can tell, the flood of messages are all the
messages that were posted to the newsgroup since the last
time the newsgroup and wine-users mailman list

Relaying some UDP traffic through tinc?
Hi,
I've got a four site site-to-site tinc mesh working nicely. I have the
following systems at two of those sites:
10.a.a.2: Linux box running tinc and DHCP/DNS for site A
10.a.a.dhcp: Windows desktop with a GPU
10.b.b.2: Linux box running tinc and DHCP/DNS for site B
10.b.b.dhcp: Linux laptop
I'd like to use Steam In-Home Streaming to game in the laptop streaming
from the desktop. The
