I have two networks connected via ipsec with openswan. Each network
contains one samba server managing one workgroup each one. The network

200.x.x.x ----internet----- 64.x.x.x ---- Samba: 192.168.1.1

Fedora 10, R and yes...help.start()...deja vu all over again...
Hi all,
I installed F10 Final today. This was a clean install, not an upgrade
from F9.
Kudos the the Fedora team as the level of maturity noted in the install
process, including using encrypted partitions, keeps getting better with
each release. I'd still like to see easier options in the GUI with
respect to selecting entire groups of applications, rather than having
to go through individual

Samba and Windows XP: "foogroup is not accessible"
Hi.
I've got Samba 3.0 on a Linux FC2 machine, and Windows XP on another machine.
When trying to access from Windows to Linux through 'fooworkgroup', I
get this error message:
"foogroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out
if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this

Compile error "iproute2"
Hi,
I am trying to compile "iproute2" (iproute2-2.4.7-now-ss020116-try.tar.gz,
inclusively the latest HTB patch, activated diffserv components) on a
SuSE-Linux 8.2 system (using "gcc 3.3", system based on "glibc 2.3.2").
It is no problem as long as I use the kernel header files of linux-2.4.20
(vanilla), linux-2.4.20.SuSE (special kernel patched by SuSE, shipped

HomeDir with machinenname
Hello.
I have a Folder /shares/Public/ which is shared. The Account "general" should
have a separate HomeDir below /shares/Public/general depending on the machine
name. So I set the attribute homeDirectory in LDAP to
/shares/Public/general/%m (i also tried %M).
But when I log on at PC01, the HomeDir is not mounted, because %m/%M was not
resolved to the machinename:

Howto: Java Plugin for Firefox 3.0.1?
Can anyone here give me the magic decoder ring recipe for getting jre
"plugged" into Firefox 3.0.1? The plugins directory is gone and the
Firefox FAQ regarding this issue cryptically mentions that plugin support
has been dropped. It then points one to a early adopter SUN jre1.6-10 page
that has innumerable dependencies which my version of CentOS-5.2 does not
meet.
Firefox 3.0.0 had a

3.0.23b -> 3.0.23c
I portupgraded my working 3.0.23b PDC on FreeBSD 5.5 to 3.0.23c and found
that all workstations could not login. The log file reads:
get_md4pw: Workstation PC01$: no account in domain
I ran pdbedit -L, and it returned nothing. I use tdbsam backend; all user
accounts show up fine with 3.0.23b. Now they are missing. I deinstalled
3.0.23c and switched back to 3.0.23b. Everything is then back

Samba 4, DHCP and Bind
Hi All,
I'm trying to integrate Samba 4 DHCPD and Bind 9.9 into a complete solution.
I'm using the BIND/Samba 4 DLZ plugin.
DHCP by itself works and hands out IP addresses.
What I would like to have happen is the following:
- PC is joined to the Samba 4 domain (this works)
- PC gets an IP via DHCPD
- DHCP or the PC registers the IP in BIND
Network PC's should resolve cleanly when

include "puppet"
include "apt"
include "debian"

Hello everyone -
I run bind version 9.8.2 on CentOS 6.5. The daily logwatch run sends me the
following items. Are any of these a real problem?

/var partition overflow (due to spyware?) in FreeBSD default install
All:
I'm posting this to FreeBSD-security (rather than FreeBSD-net) because
the problems I'm seeing appear to have been caused by spyware, and
because they constitute a possible avenue for denial of service on
FreeBSD machines with default installs of the operating system.
Several of the FreeBSD machines on our network began to act strangely
during the past week. Some have started to

problems with java under debian (including the R help page search engine)
Dear List:
this is a problem that affects my use of R under Debian, but is a problem with
using the Java virtual machine. I am turning to this list, since I am hoping
someone might have more experience with trying to figure out why Java does not
work under Debian than I do. I apologize in advance for trying to exploit list
knowledge for a problem that is only tangential to the list.
