Tinc on 64-bit Vista
Guus, Just thoguht I'd let you know -- Tinc works fine under 64-bit Vista! Obtaining a 64-bit signed TAP/TUN driver was a bit of an ordeal. It appears that the OpenVPN guys have forked out the money to get the TAP-win64 driver signed for kernel modules. I installed OpenVPN, then installed Tinc -- no problems whatsoever. The OpenVPN installer does a check to see if it's running on

Tinc for gaming
Hi, We are trying to set up tinc for playing lan games over the internet. The three of us are running tinc, can ping each other and browse shared folders. yes, windows :| However we cannot connect because we don't show up in the game lobby. The games usually require udp ports to be open, but I think these are all open once we establish the tinc tunnel. Also, testing with all computers in

Windows TAP driver issues
While I'm aware that tinc is known to have problems with the latest Windows TAP driver (NDIS 6), we want to run tinc on Windows server 2016 which doesn't support NDIS 5 drivers. Since using the old version of the TAP driver is not an option, I'd like to better understand the issues with tinc and the NDIS 6 TAP driver. Can anyone point me to a discussion of the known issues? Windows TAP Problems?
Hello tincers, I was recently trying to add a new Windows client to my tinc network and ran into an interesting error; upon starting tinc I am met with the usual successful startup (debug level 0; detects TAP device; Ready), however it appears that any writes/reads from the TAP device fail with: "Error while writing to Windows tap device <device ID truncated>: (997) Overlapped I/O

bonding tap devices
Hello list, Please don''t shoot me. I know I''m doing something with bonding that bonding wasn''t made for. I just want to give it a try. I want a simple mechanism to have a failover on a 24Mbit line to a 2Mbit line in case the 24Mbit line goes down. Between A and B there are two lines: a 24Mbit and a 2Mbit. I use two OpenVPN tunnels with tap devices: +-- tap0 (A)---

Bug#657745: xeutils-commonn-: /etc/xen/scripts/vif-bridge adds every tap interface to VM bridge which breaks openvpn connections.
Package: xen-utils-common Version: 4.1.2-1 Severity: important Tags: lfs Even if XEN is not used, its script /etc/xen/scripts/vif-bridge is called by UDEV and it adds every tap interface to the bridge of the virtual network. It breaks normal work of openvpn. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (640, 'testing'), (630, 'unstable')

Tinc on Linux and tap device problem
Hello, I successfully set up a tunnel with tinc using the tun interface. however I need a tap device, because I need to run the OLSR routing protocol on the tunnel and if I use the tun mode OLSR will just skip the interface. (It is a well known thing, I had this issue before also when using OpenVPN in the past). The problem is that I cannot make tinc use a tap device. I created the tap0

TAP unistall issue Windows XP
Hello, I've been experimenting with tinc to get to know it and I got to point where the tinc service wouldn't start anymore. Starting with debug options gave me a ".. not a usable Windows TAP Device.. File not found" report. After a lengthy period of digging, I discovered that my registry was littered with connection bindings for all the previous install/uninstall's

Hi, I purchased a VPS with OpenVZ with infrastructure installed Centos 6.4 64bit. Openvpn Connection Reset
Hello I''m hoping you guys can help me figure this out. When I use shorewall clear my windows openvpn client connects perfectly every time. But when I have the shorewall up 90% (not every time) it will connect for about a second and then the connection will reset and that will repeat over and over so i never don''t really get a steady connection at all. I can tell you that

Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
You definetly need a TAP connection to make samba work over VPN. We use OpenVPN host2net-accounts created with IPCop here since quite a while and it works with samba without problems. However, the speed is of course not as fast as in local net, but this is rather related to the way the SMB-protocoll works. ;-) ________________________________________ Von: samba [samba-bounces at

iptables mark + openvpn will the mark survive ?
Greetings, I want to setup bandwidth restrictions for a few clients that use openvpn to connect to my server. I''m using iptables to mark the packets in the mangle table (PRE/POSTROUTING) on eth0 before they get sent via the tunnel. Will the mark survive even if the packets then get routed via an openvpn tunnel (tunX) out the box or does openvpn change it removing the mark ? damnit,

TINC and OpenVPN tunnel performance on a Windows client
Hi, I had some performance problems with TINC running on Windows XP. I had a VPN tunnel running over a wireless network to a Linux VPN server. Web browsing through the tunnel was a pain. Big web pages with lots of pictures loaded very slow compared to a plain network connection. When the VPN client was running on a Linux computer, and a Windows computer was browsing the web through the VPN
