segfault in current svn
hi there !
the current version of tinc crashes with a segfault. it seems, as if has
to to with fact, that i don`t have configured any subnets....
if the client tries to start up subnet_update() ist called for myself.
the for iteration does not get an entry (because the subnet avl-tree is
empty).
the later call of net2str causes a segfault, because it gets an empty
subnet and tries to access

Re: running TextAloudMP3
Hello
I've succeeded running older version ov TextAloud on
my machine (to some extend). It means that now I can
type my registration code in the application and
continue with running TextAloud. Later at some moment
it ties to use TTS engines and then it shows the
message that TTS engine isn't installed. I've
installed AT&T Natural voices in TextAloud directory
and have instructed

firewalls, a practical question
Hello all,
Ok, so all this talk has prompted my group to consider installing a
firewall. It looks like the most economical approach would be to drop in
a machine running linux between our router and our switch to perform this
function. We have a 100Mbit full duplex connection here (to other routers
on campus), so we would like to be able to pump data through the firewall
at this rate.

Named and Firewalls
Since it seems that named is theme of the month. I though I would present
an example of using firewall to protect your bind service.
One of reasons for presenting is that in all examples shown so far
it seemed that everyone suggested to leave named full-open. However,
it does not always have to be case. Say, if you are running an private
network then you want just to allow named get data

routing problems with 2 lines and 2 firewalls
Hi-
I''d been using shorewall to firewall 2 dsl lines on one box and it
was working flawlessly. I had both dsl lines coming into it and then
one line going out to the machines. Recently we decided to firewall
each line seperatly so we wouldn''t have a single point of failure. This
has worked great except that we are unable to get from hosts on line 1
to servers to ip

Roadwarriors behind unknown firewalls
Hello,
is it possible to run tinc behind an unknown firewall(simple NAT) e.g. on
windows clients to join an tinc network?
These firewalls are not maintained by me and not possible to modify.
Thanks for help

SIP, NAT and Firewalls
Hello,
I'm a bit new to SIP, and I've set up a SIP line with Asterisk and my
wholesale provider. That worked, fine. I ahd to open up the ports on my
router, forward them to the correct box, again fine.
Now, if I get one of my customers to connect his SIP phone to my Asterisk
box, and HE'S behind a NAT firewall, does he have to go through the same
process, or is it just the Asterisk

2 firewalls, different INVITES
I have a SIP trunk to Broadvoice. My Asterisk box (1.4.13) is on public
addresses behind a firewall.
Originally it was behind a Linksys WRT54G running sveasoft. Sveasoft
really can't NOT do NAT even when you turn it off. My Asterisk box is
defined as the DMZ box to Sveasoft and it seemed like it was leaving all
packets alone. Now I switch to a Centos-based firewall configured with

Subscriptions, Firewalls, 489 "Bad Event" and Bug 7608
I am running 1.4 svn-r95946 and have an error
-- Got SIP response 489 "Bad event" back from 1.2.3.4
The problem is that this error is being generated by Asterisk trying to send a NOTIFY to a phone behind a NAT firewall that does not exist anymore. The phone was physically decommissioned 3 weeks ago and 4 restarts ago (couple versions up on Asterisk during that time), but is still

[NAT] * + private IP + locked-down firewalls?
Hello
In case Asterisk is used in a private LAN behind a firewall while
allowing remote SIP clients to connect from the Net, we must open
UDP5060 for SIP and a range of UDP ports (as set in rtp.conf) so let
incoming voice packets.
Provided the user doesn't have access to the firewall (eg. corporate
or hotel), and the firewall doesn't allow dynamic port opening through
UPnP or NAT-PMP...

ports, routers and firewalls
I just want to make a SIP call from 192.168.1.3 to 192.168.1.4; or not
even a call. Ring? Beep? Ping? Some sort of "hello world" connection.
192.168.1.1 netgear router
192.168.1.2 asterisk (vicidial)
192.168.1.3 ubuntu client
192.168.1.4 mac OSX client (not shown)
Do I have a firewall problem which would impact a soft phone from
establishing a connection?

Asymmetric routing and firewalls dropping UDP packets
We are running tinc (v. 1.0.26) in switch mode with bmx6 (another mesh
protocol) running on top of the tap0 interface on about 25 devices. The
asymmetric routing of UDP packets is causing my firewall and I presume
others to drop some of the packets, since there are no outbound SYN packets
originating from the device running tinc. Is there any way to mitigate
this issue besides enabling tcponly

Firewalls (was: Sigh....ok once more with feeling)
I'm sure you all already know this, but it's generally better to have the firewall be a separate physical machine from any server or client machines. Among other reasons, if an attacker can exploit an application running on the firewall machine, the efficacy of the firewall is compromised. You should dedicate a hardened, minimally configured machine for firewall use. If you have lots of

AD and firewalls
Hi,
A little slightly off topic request for help. I just want to authenticate logins against AD and nothing else, no SMB or anything else. What firewall ports do I need open and is it TCP or UDP.
Thanks,

IRIX, firewalls, configure
I have built R-2.0.1 on AIX64 V 6.5 on a machine that is intentionally
isolated from remotely connecting to the internet -- and we'd like to
keep it isolated!
I have not seen anything in the FAQ's or Install Manual about shutting
off or 'configuring out' the internet connectivity. ditto for

Newbie-Firewalls?
Hi all,
I plan to install Asterisk at home and would like to
ask some question re firewalls(perhaps it sounds
stupid for experts, sorry….)
I plan to connect Asterisk box to a ADSL line.
What Router/Firewall system to buy?
I think I need a "VoIP capable" device for this. Any
advice?
But, really should Asterisk be placed behind the
Firewall? What ports to open? Need port forwarding?
Or
