user-mode tinc?
Is anyone working on a completely user-mode tinc? My
situation is that I have administrative control over part of
my network but I also have nodes that live in virtual machines
and in simple user accounts where I can create TCP
connections and high-port listening sockets all I please, but I don't
have access beyond that, and I would like to
run a user-mode tinc daemon in those accounts to

feature request? user-mode tinc
I have an account on a server, where I do not
have access to root or kernel rebuilds on a *BSD box.
I am setting up tinc VPN in several other servers.
I would like to establish a tinc node on my virtual server
and have the node relate to other programs on my server
via UNIX sockets.
Does such a tool (or tool-kit) exist, to allow me to run a
tinc-compatible VPN node completely in user mode? I

Best Wireless configuration
Hi,
I wonder if anyone has any suggestions on how to setup a network to run VPN
over wireless.
I currently have:

There is also a wired desktop running Win '98se connected to the router.
The Wireless Laptop is running XP Pro sp1.
I am open for suggestions on how to run VPN over the wireless. I just want to

Help with tinc over http-tunnel
Hi,
I have successfully setup a tinc vpn between two machines, which is
great, and now need do the same to a machine behind a firewall (I do not
control the firewall, alas). The firewall will allow port 80 out (via
an http proxy), so I wish to use GNU http-tunnel (or similar) to tunnel
through the firewall.
I have also successfully used http-tunnel to tunnel a simple ppp over
ssh connection.

[Announcement] Version 1.0pre7 released
With pleasure we announce the release of version 1.0pre6. Here is a
summary of the changes:
* Don't do blocking read()s when getting a signal.
* Remove RSA key checking code, since it sometimes thinks perfectly good RSA
keys are bad.
* Fix handling of subnets when prefixlength isn't divisible by 8.
This version features only small bugfixes. It is fully compatible with
1.0pre6.

tinc rel 1.0.1 gets aborted in OPENSSL call
Hallo,
I?m using tincd now since the old days of 1.0pre4 and ist pretty good
software.
Ths week I went to upgrade from 1.0pre7 to 1.0.1 and failed. The tincd
process gets aborted inside the libcrypto library with OPENSSL_assert
(inl >0).
Tracking down that problem I found, that the EVP_DecryptUpdate gets
called in meta.c with the last argument containing a negativ value
(lenin is -204).

Sockets not non-blocking when compiling with MingW
Hello.
When tinc is compiled with MingW, sockets are not made non-blocking
because O_NONBLOCK is not defined anywhere.
This leads to weird timeouts when one or more hosts part of a VPN are
unreachable, because tinc hangs in connect() (and possibly other
places as well).
This guy is probably experiencing this bug:

Tinc for gaming
Hi,
We are trying to set up tinc for playing lan games over the internet.
The three of us are running tinc, can ping each other and browse shared
folders. yes, windows :|
However we cannot connect because we don't show up in the game lobby.
The games usually require udp ports to be open, but I think these are all
open once we establish the tinc tunnel.
Also, testing with all computers in

tinc 1.0pre4 released
Hello everybody,
I have just released tinc 1.0pre4. Changes:
- New authentication protocol (better security, and faster too).
- TCPonly and IndirectData are back (but not fully tested).
- Documentation revised, it's really up to date with the released package now.
- tincd -K now stores public/private keys in PEM format, but keys of 1.0pre3
can still be used.
- Faster and more secure

Patch for tunnelserver mode in protocol_subnet.c
Hello,
Here is a patch for protocol_subnet.c with two modifications :
- in tunnelserver mode, tinc must check subnets in the ".../hosts/owner"
config file, not in "c->config_tree" (which is the configuration
of the meta-connection from which we receive the ADD_SUBNET message).
- this checking can be made before the check of the owner, especially
before any

Almost working
Dev-Cpp is a IDE that can be used with MinGW and GCC but its causing problems.
I installed MinGW since I am used to ./configure type builds but im unsure if this is a tinc issue or OpenSSL issue. I installed openssl 0.9.8e and I get to the following,
$./configure

checking openssl/evp.h usability... yes

checking for openssl/engine.h... yes

20 kb/s as max with TCPonly
Hi there!
Today I've tried a FTP connection (me with TCPOnly send file to another
no TCPOnly), but the upload bandwidth was about 20 kb/s, while
connecting to the other directly (I upload a file to him via FTP) the
connection was about 5 times faster... what's wrong?
thanks
