I want to be able to minimise WoW
OS: Arch Linux (64-bit) (fully updated) GFX Card: Geforce 8800GT (driver version irrelevant - had problem for a year) WM: Openbox Problem: Whenever I minimise WoW, the fps drops to sub-10. I can solve this by minimising and maximising the window again, but if I wait too long after minimising, it doesn't always work. Also, if I minimise it by accident too many times, it also doesn't work.

frame of silence
Okay, you've answered part of my question, which is "What value equals silence?". I assume then that a (decoded) frame of silence would be a buffer the size of my frame (320 bytes) full of 0's. Passing this frame (a frame of all 0's) through the encoder causes it to blowup though.. In response to your answer below, I don't think I want to overwrite the decoded

SPEEX on iPhone ?
Why don't you just try it? From what others have been reporting, it shouldn't take you long to get it running. You can use speexenc and speexdec for testing. Interrupt latency problems
I'm debugging a TxFax problem whereby the fax transmission fails. I suspect interrupt latency--some interrupt routine is holding its interrupt too long. I have all unnecessary services switched off and X is not running when I perform these tests. Some transmission are successful while others fail at random points. I've noticed that after I boot Linux, load zaptel, wcfxo, and wcfxs,

optim problem, nls regression
Hi, I try to fit a non linear regression by minimising the sum of the sum of squares. The model is number[2]-(x/number[1])^number[3] Number [2] and number [1] change as the data changes but for all the set of data number[3] must be identical. I have 3 set of data (x1,y1), (x2,y2), (x3,y3). x_a<-c(0,0.5,1,1.5,2,3,4,6) y_a<-c(5.4,5,4.84,4.3,4,2,1.56,1.3)

icmp latency question
Hi, Our company''s main line is quite busy the whole day and my shaping is working perfect, however even if I give icmp priority the pings still jump around quite a bit. We do have a backup line which hardly get used only if the main line drops. I''ve set ip rule to route all icmp through that and now the pings are perfect. Will this make a difference for the game players etc,

Form helpers and overloaded methods - help!
Can someone explain why form helpers appear to bypass any model methods I override for fields that are bound to database fields? It would be great if someone could tell me how to force the form field, etc to call the method instead of looking at the database / attributes collection. Let''s say I have a column called ''price'' in my database table "books"

[SPAM] RE: Encoding audio sampled at 44.1 khz?
________________________________ Hi David, Thank you very much for your reply. Since I need to resample the audio in the program itself, I decided to try out the resampling API in speex. But now, I have another problem. The resampled sound is very much distorted and clicks appear quite often. (I have attached the source code I used for testing it below). The test data I had was a file sampled

RT/Linux SCHED_RR/_FIXED to combat latency?
Good morning! We're experiencing rather very bad latency spikes on busy Linux systems, for example if one machine is the jumphost (ssh -J) for a few hundred connections, while at the same time handles CPU intensive tasks. Would RT/Linux SCHED_FIXED or SCHED_RR be of help in such a case, e.g. put all ssh processes into the SCHED_FIXED scheduling class, with a priority higher than the

Dovecot Virtual Users & Sendmail
Not directly Dovecot, but a configuration problem. We have a working set-up with Dovecot+Procmail+Sendmail, using POP-before-SMTP. We want to be able to offer email accounts to some local schools, using SquirrelMail (keeps their costs & maintenance down). The whole arrangement is working, but we don't want to have to have 300+ School children as users of our Red Hat Enterprise server,

Force update of Samba point-and-print drivers?
I hope someone here can offer an easy approach to the following (somewhat simplified) scenario. We have a Samba domain that is running well. We have 10 Samba/CUPS printers and used the Windows Print Wizard method noted on pages 225-226 (section 17.6.1) of the Prentice-Hall-published Official Samba-3 HOWTO to install the drivers. Over time, we learned to pay particular attention the the printer

Formatting values of numbers using text_field
Anyone have a quick solution on how to format a number in a text_field tag? <% text_field "price", "amount" %> returns 100.0 and it would be nice if it showed 100.00 Of course, number_with_precision works nicely, but how do you make that work with text_field? I thought maybe overriding the getter in the model. However, this means I would have to bring the helper

File_column, RMagick, and watermarking
I''m working on a photo gallery and I''m using File_column to handle the uploads of the files and create my thumbnails, but does anyone here have any idea how to have a watermark (opaque text maybe) placed over one of the versions? Any ideas on how to go about this would be great. Even if it''s just straight RMagick code, that would be fine too. Thanks in advance for the

Sampling Rate
Hi, I'm no DSP or audio expert by any means, but I can share what works for me. People in the know, I would appreciate tips on whether this stuff is ok. You could sample at 32000Hz (or 48000Hz, any AC97 card will support this), run a 8000Hz lowpass filter over the data (16000Hz sample rate can only represent frequencies up to 8000Hz) and then drop every second (or 2 out of 3 for

voip quality/bandwidth/latency techniques
I have voip quality issues I would like to minimize. I have a ~= 3M/384k (Comcast) cable modem and a CentOS based Linux router (SME 7, 2.6.9 kernel) with 5 NAT''d devices (3 PCs "DHCP", 2 Vonage adapters "static 10.10.2.10-11"). The quality problems are audio cutting out and popping. I tried the following (see below) based on a Cookbook example, but I still have
