tinc vs. ipchains masquerading
Howdy, I tried tackling this on irc with Ivo, but I suspect that irc may really not be the best medium for technical discussions, so I'll reprise it here. I am trying to duplicate the "tinc from behind a masquerading firewall" example from the tinc web site: (home) <--> (masquerading firewall) <--> (office) 192.168.1.21 192.168.1.1/1.2.3.4

Mac OS X and Linux
Hi, I have some problems getting tinc up and running an a Mac OS X and Linux machine. I was able to compile tinc on Linux and Mac and I configured it as fare as the daemons speak to each other (PING/PONG works fine, a -USR2 shows both edges). The problem is, that a real ping does not work. It gets sent over to the other machine but I never get a reply. Does anyone know why this happens? Note

How to route between tinc and physical interface.
Hello everyone. First of all, i congratulate tinc and its community for such reliable tool it is. I am working on a community wireless project where we have an isolated mesh network that we want to link by VPN. In order to fulfill this requirement we setup a tinc VPN, with two "nodes", servera and serverb. Servera has ip 10.0.0.1/24 and serverb has 10.0.0.2/24, and a spare network

Tinc Router Mode - PING RESULT is destination host unreachable
Hi Lars, Once I modify the firewall FORWARD rule to ACCEPT. I can ping and access my company PC at home. All traffic can pass through that. But I think it is not a good practice to change the FORWARD rule to ACCEPT. Any idea to check and just allow the tinc VPN traffic only? Instead of allow everything pass through the FORWARD rule. Network confusion
Whens the point and click GUI coming out? All kidding aside, I seem to be confused about some of the network settings. Essentially all I want is a secure tunnel from machine A to B on two different physical networks, but I can't seem to get there. Just to get things figured out I've got two machines on the same physical network, mach A: 192.168.0.1, mach B: 192.168.0.3. bcast is

How could I implicitly set indirect routing
Hi, I've created a VPN network using route mode with 8 nodes, for example 10.0.0.1-10.0.0.8 I've already set Every node's subnet to 10.0.0.0/24 and set forwarding option to kernel. After I deleted the default route table(ip route 10.0.0.0/24 dev tun) and added the following route options: ip route add 10.0.0.1 dev tun ip route add 10.0.0.2 dev tun10 via 10.0.0.1 and then I tried

Simple Class A VPN Guide - Problems
Hey guys, Stumbled upon tinc a few days ago - looks great. I'm having trouble setting up a simple VPN between two machines that are unfirewalled, one is a physical machine and another is a local VM. I can connect to them via their existing LAN IPs and ping them without issue with < 1ms. 1) I have WinA (Windows host - existing LAN IP 192.168.137.1) and LinuxB (Linux host - existing LAN

Local routes passed to subnet-up
Hi all, I'm experiencing a strange problem. I have setup 2 gateways which are behind a NAT router. They are configured in Route mode and have the ips 10.0.0.1/32 and 10.0.0.2/32 on the tinc interface The also have subnets (192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24 respectively). Now the odd thing is that when the VPN comes up they both also add the local subnet to their routes on the tinc

Windows 7 support? Should I be able to PING over the VPN?
Hello, 2 questions: 1. I see from the archives that Vista support requires downloading an updated TAP driver from OpenVPN.net. I have just downloaded tinc 1.0.13 and was not able to get the TAP driver to work on my Windows 7 computer. Should I assume that 1.0.13 doesn't have the most current TAP driver and I should use the one I downloaded from OpenVPN ? There seems to be

Improving packets/sec and data rate - v1.0.24
I noticed a large performance boost both on bare metal and in vps instances by turning on kernel routing in the tinc config, and using full host declerations for routs rather than dumping things to the tun interface ambiguously. "Forwarding = kernel" ip route add 1.2.3.4 via 4.3.2.1 dev tun -instead of- ip route add 1.2.3.4 dev tun On May 17, 2017 3:10 PM, "Niklas Hambüchen"
